Thank You Kaemmerite. There is nothing that makes me feel more happy than people continously bashing me and my opinion. It brings me peace and joy.

I meant there wasn`t a huge graphic leap when it first came out. I was comparing

Final Fantasy V -SNES-
http://www.ffring.com/images/ffv/screenshots/02.jpg

To Final Fantasy IV -NES-
http://www.ffring.com/images/ffiv/screenshots/02.gif

Then again, comparing those two games only was unfair so i aplogize. If FFV, is actually for NES, i will scoot away slowly.

BTW, kae, what were the two games you compared before Metroid?

I`m pretty sure FF4 was on NES.

For the two games Kae compared I`m guessing Secret of Mana and something else...

No, IV was most certainly SNES. I had it for a while. (borrowed)
It was called Final Fantasy II in the U.S.

Then you're pretty wrong.

And that was Seiken Densetsu 3 and Deadly Towers.

Ok, well then my point is proved. Kaemmerite obviosuly pulled the best looking SNES game from the later SNES years. FF4 has NES graphics, and so do someother games. Yes, Seiken Densetsu III part of the Mana series is a game on the SNES that has way better graphics than what SNES is normally known for.

"Most other games?" Give me proof. Don't just sit there and give your opinion, back it up with evidence. If you want to play the "Oh it was a later SNES game and had better graphics than the system was known for," let's do this.

I have here two games. One is Super Mario Bros. 3. I have been searching with Google, and have found on many sites that people claim SMB3 has the best graphics of any NES game. It was also released rather late in the NES's lifetime, therefore maximizing the graphics potential.

I also have Super Mario World. The first game released for SNES. The VERY first, meaning the system was brand new and people didn't know how to utilize the graphics processor fully. Let's take a look.

Now, I'm not gonna say that Super Mario World's graphics are a huge improvement over SMB3. HOWEVER, it's clear that even a late NES game vs. the first SNES game shows there IS graphics improvement.

Saying that "most games had NES graphics" based off one, ONE game is ludicrous, and it's even more ludicrous to say that there was no difference, as I have proved countless times.

Point taken.

EDIT: I do like the MAP graphics better for SMB3.

The main graphical difference between the NES and SNES was that originally graphics were pretty much broken up into 8x8 or 16x16 squares, whereas the SNES allowed sprites of any size.
Also, the SNES cartridges could fit more data, which allowed more unique sprites.
But mostly it's just small things, like the ability to keep track of more moving objects and the dramatic increase in maximum colors.
If you count, you'll see that the SMB3 picture there has 16(!) colors in it.

And yes, FFIV did have rather primitive graphics. Except for the monsters. They looked awesome. Probably because they needed more than the 40-something available colors on the NES.

If you want a SNES game with really awesome graphics, look at Donkey Kong Country.

Can I see a screenshot for that?

Kae, you seen to have all the stuff.

Chrono Trigger IMO is enough to say this system rocks.

EEP. Hey Tom. Wanna know something funny? I accidentally posted the map graphics for the Super Nintendo version of SMB3. I have now edited my post with the CORRECT graphics for the NES version of the game. Now tell me which one you like better. ]http://www.consoleclassix.com/info_img/Donkey_Kong_Country_SNES_ScreenShot1.jpg[/IMG]

Is that really the Super Nintendo? The graphics look way too good! Maybe I actually grew up with the original Nintendo then?

eg. Duck Hunt - awesome game (maybe not Super Nintendo?)

If you want impressiveness, try GBC = to GBA.
I'm still in awe at how they managed to do it.

As far as Metal Gear to Nintendo. Yes, you get remakes...and crappy card games. Clearly there making the jump. *eye roll*

I'm happy about the GC remakes as I know have a chance to play (though I haven't yet) and the card game was the PSP. :P

SNES hands down.

Both Lufia's, Chrono Trigger, FF6, Earthbound, Legend of Mana, Illusion of Gaia...

I could go on with that list for a while, but I think you get my point.

The SNES is, and always will be the system of legendary RPG's.

I'd say SNES. Megaman X 1-3, Street Fighter II, Samurai SHowdown, and Phalanx were all great. ALthough the NES did have Duck Hunt and Final fantasy I.

I have both ^_^

Anyway, once the revolution comes out, you'll be able to play both on the same cconsole. But if you are only going to get one, I'd say SNES, simply because the games are larger. And most of the real awesome titles for NES you can ge on GBA, so...yeah.

Donkey Kong Country rocks.

And gotta say SNES for DKC 1 & 2 as well as Mario Kart. Mario All-Stars is awesome, too. Oh yeah - anyone else love Mario Paint? Remember that bug-swatting game?
