Glitch in DDR: Mario Mix?

Postby Roll » Mon Dec 05, 2005 5:05 pm

Anyone else who's got Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, have you had the same problem where it won't record an A grade for certain songs in Free Mode? It's happened to me now with the songs Jump! Jump! Jump!, Starring Wario, and Always Smiling. I'm about to write Nintendo and complain!

To get an A you need to accomplish these requirements:

Get a large percentage of the arrows
Tons of perfects.

or I think

for AA you need to hit all of em

for AAA you need to get all perfects

Er, Ryan, methinks you misunderstood the lady's post. I believe she's trying to say she does these songs and earns an A, but the game will not record that she did.

Right, exactly! It will show the nice, big, bright A, and Luigi will be jumping up and down, and I'm all happy and patting myself on the back for finally getting it right (hehe), only to see a B (or whatever grade I had before) when it returns to the song menu. Ugh! I can't think of any reason why it would not record it other than a glitch. At first I thought maybe it was because Mush Mode was off, but Jump! Jump! Jump! doesn't even have a Mush Mode. Also, all the songs before that one have As, so it doesn't seem to be a case of prequalifying or such.

Yup, it's a bug.
The same thing happened to me when I was trying for all A's on hard mode.
A's were recorded on every level except Bowser's (which took the most effort by far). And I even double checked by getting a second A on it, but when I went to the high scores it only showed a B. :(
Stupid glitches... :stressed:

Edit: The same thing also happened on very hard on either the Pirate dance level, or the Hammer Bros. level. Though I've forgoten which. :(

Aha, so it's not just my copy! Good, I'm gonna notify Nintendo about this bug and see if they're gonna do something about it.

i think ithas somthingto do with a higher score (larger combo) with a "B" then "A"... my bro had a B replace some of his a's on very hard before (and a D replaced a C on Bowser's castle on super hard), but i think he's got it back now...

just my guess

That's not a glitch... It records your top grade based on score, not grade... They are given based on different factors... If you had a lot of perfects, but not a large combo chain, your score will be less but you'll still get an A. So, the top score you got for that song earned you a B, with higher combo chain but fewer perfects.

What?! What's the point of even having the grade, then? It's like, "You got an A, but not really." How can it give you something but not give it at the same time? Ridiculous! If I get an A, I don't care what my score is, I still got that A. Hm, next time I play I'm gonna check my high scores and see about beating them to make sure this is really what's happening.

Anyway, I contacted Nintendo about it via the web site, and they said they had no idea why it was doing that and asked me to call and speak directly with a representative. When I did, they expressed bewilderment as to the issue and said they'd forward it to the administration. Seems this game has been more popular than expected, so they're sold out almost everywhere. If they do decide that the game should be changed (bug or not), this should be a good time to do it, eh? I'll post any updates!

I've had the same thing happen repeatedly on DDR Ultramix 2 for Xbox, but I figured it was just a glitch. If you find out anything else, please let me know!

Yeah, it only seems logical that, if you get an A, you should have an A! That best grade from top score concept is so retarded! Why not call the A performance with the lower score the B and the other the A? Sheesh!!

If that's the case, and it WAS a glitch, then you should be contacting Konami, not Nintendo. :l

an interesting turn of events (read the first few comments also):
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/nintendo-dance-dance-not-discontinued-140409.php
origin of rumor:
http://www.pressthebuttons.com/2005/12/dance_dance_dis.html

a new software version would be a good idea in addition to beefing up the signal strength in the pads.
