Game movies?

Postby Slater » Wed Dec 07, 2005 1:00 am

I was browsing my hard drive and found my old (from 2003-2004) game movies archive... and I was wondering, how many of you record your gameplay? If so, show us!

http://media.putfile.com/SMA1
from late 2003, when I started speedrunning, a few tricks that I have up my speed that help to beat the game in under an hour...
Part1: falling down the shaft without stopping
Part2: A quick timesaver
Part3: presision jumping and doging (can be done much better)
Part4: Up the shaft quickly (a few mistakes, especially at the end)
Part5: Quickest methods to beat Torizo
Part6: Big timesaver, tough to do right.
Part7: Who says you gotta go down first? (or up last?)
Part8: How to skip the first miniboss.
Part9: Somewhat early Phazer (easy to do)
PartA: Big jump (no High Jump boots, mind you)
PartB: "All your base are belong to us"

I cannot upload (nor do I particularly want to upload) any movies, but I think I do have a few from long ago. The only one I remember is from one of the NES Kirby games: I kept recording Kirby vs Metaknight until I got a cool-looking battle in which I didn't get hit.

What I wish I had recorded was my speed run through Mario 3.

Neh.... Nerds are nothing to sneeze at. Look at Bill Gates.

I used to record some of the games I'd play in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Guilty Gear X2. ^_^; got no idea where they are now.

Hehehe, I used to record compilations on the VCR, with scenes from different games kinda spliced to create a new story. Each scene was supposed to relate to the next either by its scene or music.

I should record some of my Smash Bros battles. And keep the really awesome ones. That would do, yeah.

Now, now, Tom, we're geeks. There's a difference. Nerds don't wash.

And BTW, I speedran through Halo CE in 2:38 on easy, but I bet I could beat that on normal if I really tried.

The thing is, I've only done one, and it wasn't bad. I now refuse to do another, partially because I feel it would be a waste of time, partially because I don't want any evidence that my first time through had some luck involved.

I would never do a speed run purely because of the excess amount of time involved. I just can't justify spending hour upon hour honing my skill that much. Besides, using slo-mo and other tricks seems cheaty.

Might have been fun to record some Freedom Force battles... showing how chaotic battles were when using a character who had grenades and Deja Duplication... the city ends up looking like a warzone

Yes, I wouldn't want to do a speed run of a longer game. Can anyone imagine a speed run of FFX? It would be ridiculous. A Mario speed run, however, takes less than 15 minutes, even for non-experts.

Of course, if you use any emulation tricks it is no longer a speed run. When a person tries to beat the game as fast as possible, not as fast as their skill will allow, it is technically called a time attack.

No, I honestly find taping yourself playing videogames a lot more nerdy than talking about them. Both are nerdy. However, I would not consider myself a nerd, just a game-playing, manga-reading, anime-watching, sports freak (I play sports as well as watch them). I guess I am a half nerd then huh?

Sports probably save you at least three-quarters, which means you're only 25% nerd. If you're a soccer fan, though, you go back up another 25%, which would indeed make you half nerd. If you like hockey, then you're hopeless. ;)

Before I go to off-topic I just want to conclude by saying I play:
-Soccer
-Basketball
-Football

I would like to try fencing (which would bring nerd level, no offence Josh) or wrestling. How is hockey nerdy?

Everyone pm me the rest.

Denial. It haunts us all.

*On Topic*
Isn't there a site where they have a bunch of these to download and post your times?
I think I read of one in EGM but that was so long ago...
