My dad is drinking

Postby Artist4Jesus89 » Tue Nov 29, 2005 2:01 pm

Yesterday my dad had gone to the store and gotten food and he went in through the garage door and put what needed to be put in the freeze in it and then he came in then thinking he had gotten me some icec ream i went to the garage and opened the deepfreeze and saw a paper bag and still thinking about icecream being in it i opened it then i just had a quick glance at what was inside when my dad had rushed into the garage like he was afraid id see what i thought i had seen and he started going through it and being all jumpy and stuff and started covering the paper bag with things like frozen peas and corn and anything else "looking" for icecream and he was like i didnt get any and all that...
i had a sneaking suspision what the glass bottles were but i wasnt for sure so i had just finished coloring one of my drawings on the computer and i had printed it out on the special paper for shirts and so i washed the shirt by hand and stuck it in the dryer.
THEN i came back out to check on it and my dad had been outside and came halfway in and was like "woah its cold!" and he had something in his hand facing away from me and he made sure i didnt see it and then as soon as he said that he went back outside until i came inside the house and he came into the garage and everything was "normal" but then i smelled beer on him when i walked past him then i remembered there were many times since he moved in with us that i had smelled beer in the house when he was in the room and so my friend tori called i told her about it and we didnt really talk about it much but then today my dad finally went back to work and i told my grandma so she told me about my dad acting weird last night taking out his trash but not the kitchen trash and so she reccomended i look in the trash can now i hate going into the trash can but i did it cause i wanted to know but when i looked in the trash can since it wasnt full and it only had two bags in it my dad had taken the trash that i had taken a few days ago and put it over the bag he took last night and i almost gave up when i saw the box that the bottles come in folded up and stuffed under the bags so i showed my grandma and so yeah now that i know im kinda sad although it explains the beer smell and the bottle caps that appear in our yard and it might no be that big of a deal but i still dont like it he might be drunk some time and try to hit me or grandma... i dont know but please pray he will admit and quit.

Lifting the situation.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

Is he getting drunk and trying to hit people? If not, you may be making a problem where none really exists. (drinking, by itself, is not a problem)

Agreed, and becoming agressive if no problem exists may result in unneeded tension. I will pray the situation doesn't become worse, but please use good judgement in deciding if this is something that does need to be confronted.

I agree with Kaligraphic and Kaemmerite there. If it is a bottle of say regular o'l Budweiser or a malt liquor then I would not be too worried about it. If it's a huge bottle of say Jim Bean or something very strong and it's going away pretty quickly then that is a cause for concern. I mean does your father have a history of violent behavior with alcohol? If not then I would not be too concerned he's well over the legal limit and responsible alcohol consumption is perfectly fine.

Heck my dad drinks a Bud every night when he gets home, I've never seen him actually drunker than a little buzzed, and he's never been aggressive under the influence.

You're right, and they're right. It isn't your problem to be worried about him drinking. Of course, it's never helpful to worry about anything for that matter. It is scary though, b/c you don't know when a person will have a bad day and end up having too much. I'll be praying for him and you.

Despite the "you-shouldn't-care-less" attitude throughout this thread, it is good to be concerned. Don't worry yourself to death, but keep a watchful eye on the situation with prayer. Your original concern was not unwarranted; it simply shows how much you do love your dad and want the best for him. :thumb:

I'll be praying!

I had a friend from high school who's dad drank. His beer of choice was Bud Light. When he was sober, he could be one of the best people to talk to but when he got under the influence, he could be the biggest jerk walking God's green earth. He would get in my friend's face just to talk to him, he would talk about stuff in the Bible, he even went so far as to play worship music so loud you couldn't even hear yourself talk (if i'm lying, i'm dying and i'm perfectly healthy). Those are things he never did when he was sober. By the way, he grew up in the church so that could be the reason why he did that. If that wasn't bad enough, he even threatened to hit his own mother, which was my friend's grandmother. I haven't heard from either of them in about two years so I don't know what the situation is anymore. Just so you know, Hikaru-chan, you're not alone in this and you're in my prayers. Also, I apologize to anyone that may have been offended by my description of my friend's dad. I would not make something like this up in such a serious topic.
