PSP or DS?

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

(the stylus isn't good for normal gaming... I'd much rather have an analog stick)

Um, exactly. There's nothing "normal" about the DS, which is the whole point.
Plus, you prefer Analog Sticks? Um, last I checked the PSP doesn't have one either. It's more of an Analog "disc", convienently placed in an out-of-the-way position for ya. :D

Yeah I would much rather have the disc then a stick duo to it being a portable and things sticking out would get caught on different stuff.

Anyways I bought legend of heroes, and I love it. REALLY old school but that isnt a bad thing, also there are some mistranslations but they arent bad and are more comical then anything.

Two discs on the PSP would of rocked but that probably would of been too hard to fit all that in.

Oh, I was about to say, the stylus fits in the DS, but you were referring to analog sticks.

Yeah... I've played both systems, and... Neither one of them really wow me with games... PSP plays movies and has a web browser... And homemade and internet content... And it just looks cooler... And the games are straightforward in the control... And I'm a Sony man... So I'm gonna get...

The lynx, of course.

Soooo... you basically just want a miniature laptop? Or palm pilot minues the stylus?

I mean, from what you said, you'd probably get better by just going with one of those. If you're not going to play games on it, what's the point?

Oh brother.......First he said that neither one of the two had games that swept him of off his feet. Honestly that means neither of the systems have games that blow him away. And I beleive the lynx part was a joke. Also he said that he favored the psp do to its games being straightforward game games, not mini games and such.

Yes, MSP. When Sp came out two years ago, Nintendo thought they were so cool when they made a portable system with a light up screen. Well, I got something to say to those guys, IT`S BEEN DOWN ABOUT A DECADE AGO WITH GAME GEAR. I love my gamegear, and it came out around the same time that the original GameBoy did, and it has GameBoy advance cabibilities and graphics.

Anyways, I would go with a PSP because of the better list of games and shiny graphics. This is My opinion. You could think the game`s on the BS....I mean DS (heh heh -_-) are better. Other than a reamek of Final Fantasy VII and Xenosaga on the DS (IMO, both of those are stupid ideas to make money).

It doesn`t matter, because Sony and Nintendo are putting aside their differences and becoming "NINNY".

I`m just kidding.

That`s because PSP has more stuff and requires more energy. The running time shouldn`t be a problum unless you plan spending 12 hours in front of a video game screen. I also have been dying for memory cards for portables since the cartridges are always small and easy to loose especially DS. Then again, I get all my GBA games used without a package.

I know that, but I don't really understand why that is.

And I beleive the lynx part was a joke.

I'm aware of that. -_-

Also he said that he favored the psp do to its games being straightforward game games, not mini games and such.

So does the DS. Only a few are actual in the full "mini-games" category.

When Sp came out two years ago, Nintendo thought they were so cool when they made a portable system with a light up screen. Well, I got something to say to those guys, IT`S BEEN DOWN ABOUT A DECADE AGO WITH GAME GEAR.

But! It used up six AA batteries for only a few hours of game time, the color screen was off when tilted, and the game cartridges were large yet held very little compared to the GBA's smaller cartridges. Sega rushed on the GG, so it didn't end up quite as good as it could have been.

Anyways, I would go with a PSP because of the better list of games and shiny graphics.

Say what?

This is My opinion.

Oh. THAT again...

You could think the game`s on the BS....I mean DS (heh heh -_-) are better.

... I'm not going to even bother replying to that.

Other than a reamek of Final Fantasy VII and Xenosaga on the DS (IMO, both of those are stupid ideas to make money).

Xenosaga (or the like) is being remade for the DS, and Square-Enix has been taking a much larger interest in the DS than they have in the PSP. That's gotta tell you something...

I also have been dying for memory cards for portables since the cartridges are always small and easy to loose especially DS.

WTF?! How does that make things better? You WANT to carry around more small items that could be lost? And besides that, the DS game cards pretty much ARE memory cards (they're based off them anyways).

Myoti I cant beleive how far you back tracked. Your first post
"Soooo... you basically just want a miniature laptop? Or palm pilot minues the stylus?

I mean, from what you said, you'd probably get better by just going with one of those. If you're not going to play games on it, what's the point?"

It seems if you have no clue that he is saying that neither blew him away.

then later on you said
"
But all he said he was getting was:

Quote:
The lynx, of course."

That sure does seem like you didnt get the sarcasm.

And yes I know this is almost a flame (but look what people turned the topic into anyways), but dude just admit you didnt get it and not go round and round trying to change it. Besides Why even say stuff like, well just go out and get a palm pilot its friggin is better, type of stuff when he was clearly saying that, yeah neither system blew me away but the psp has my vote.
I swear some of the fanboyism on this topic and on this bored in general makes me a tad bit frustrated at times. Yes its different then what you like, Learn to accept it. I mean people jump all over each other about which system they like just because they think it sucks or is worse then the other.

Guys, chill out. I didn't start this thread to go into a full-scale argument. I started it to get opinions from people who actually have the systems, rather than talking to the morons who work at the Gamestop near where I live.

To clarify: No, there aren't any games that especially blow me away on either console. However, there are a few games I want to play, like GTA Liberty City Stories (I'm a die-hard GTA fan), Lumines, the Suikoden port, and Metal Gear Acid as far as PSP goes. Then Phoenix Wright, Trace Memory, and Trauma Center on DS. It'd be no question if there were, say, a great RPG that would keep me for longer than 20 hours. Maybe a Final Fantasy Tactics port.... but no.

Other things I like/dislike about both consoles:

1. Nintendo has more durable products, whereas Sony doesn't. I'm not saying that I want something I could throw out of a moving car and still work, but I know that Sony's products aren't as durable as Nintendo's.
2. PSP is internet capable. I know I need a router or something like that to use the internet with it, but I can deal with that.
3. DS has more battery life. PSP's isn't horrible by my standards, but Nintendo's is still better.
4. PSP has more features than DS. Like movie capabilities and such. I don't need the music fuction (I have an iPod), but I do like the movies.
5. DS is cheaper, but the recent release of the PSP Giga pack somewhat alleviates the whole money situation.

I don't want people to argue about things here. I just wanted opinions on the consoles and their features/games/whatever else from other people.

Sorry I just get tired of people going off on anything mentioned against their system like people have been doing.

Anyways there is a very long rpg for psp (dont beleive there are any for ds yet but of course there are several very very good ones for gba). Its really really old school, and it does have two problesm, being slow at the begining and some hilarious translation errors. But overall its a pretty solid rpg. Oh almost forgot to mention its called legend of heroes. And for the ds strat wise there is advance wars and for the psp there is lotr tatics.

Myoti you need to settle down really. Like I've said at least a dozen times in these console war threads. This rampant fanboyism is getting extremely old and is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone needs to recognize the strengths as well as the faults in their own systems as well as in others. Besides I'll say it again this shouldn't be anything personal, it's not your grandma's china. Unless someone owns stock in Sony or Nintendo they shouldn't get worked up about it anyway.

The reason Nintendo products have the reputation of durability is because minus the Gamecube all of them have used cartridges, thus no moving parts. Heck my cousin's Gamecube didn't even work out of the box, they replaced it promptly of course. They've always had good customer service.

And Everdred the PSP has WiFi capabilities. If you have wireless internet access you can set it up to work in your house. Otherwise just hook it up to a USB cable and you'll get access, but of course you won't be able to go far.

Everdred12a, I apologize. Yes, each systems have faults and weaknesses and everyone has their own opinions about it. To me, it's about the games since it is, after all, a GAMING system. Look at whatever games you'd like to play more, then go with that system.

And Everdred12a, you don't need to read this. This is only for those getting onto me about "fanboyism":

(And Mods, I apologize if there's anything wrong with this. I just felt I needed to get it out.)
[SPOILER]What in the world are you talking about? What "rampant fanboyism" have I been doing? I pointed out valid points on what I was saying and I get attacked for it?

Yes, I am aware the "lynx" bit was sarcasm. I just didn't think to put "jk" or whatever after the post because I supposed that everyone else knew it was sarcasm, and what I was saying was only to add onto the sarcasm.

People have opinions, I have mine, but at least I tend to base them on facts. Yes, I know all the strengths and weaknesses of both systems, but if someone says something I don't agree with, I will say something about it. That is OPINION.

Yes, I support Nintendo in what they do, because they do it well. If there are games on other systems that interest me, then yes, I will get them, no matter the fault of the system.

Anymore questions/flaming?

First you were sarcastic and somewhat condescending to bobtheduck and the entire post seemed to scream, I dont like the psp so you go and get a palm pilot or such instead. I think the psp is better b ut if someone says they want a ds I dont tell them to go get a touch screen palm pilot or a game pro or whatever it was called.

The other part that irked me was when you then had not a trace of sarcasm in your post then turned around and started doing u turns around the entire topic.

And onto about the fanboyism. This topic drips with it, especially the first 3/4ths of it. Thirdly isnt part of being a fanboy one who attacks others for there liking a different system? That is what you did with the palm pilot comment.

And lastly I forsee this getting the lock hammer if this continues. Stop doing U turns around the topic, be nicer and I wont get angry or rant.

Oh and on a side not myoti, your posts are not the worse of the sardonic lies and twistings posted before this on this and other topics, but when one is irritated and bitter towards a type of behavior any of that behavior is enough to raise the battlecry. I beleive yojimbo and others would back me on this, any fanboyism that is attacking something else is enough to raise our wrath. We are tired of it and we are not going to take it. (this goes for both sides!)

EDIT: oops... I think I may have been on page one of a multi-page thread, and need to read everything over before I post this...

RE-EDIT: Ok... So, I seemed to have sparked quite a debate... Gamers are... Loud... Not as bad as music geeks, though... Man, admitting to liking a band can be dangerous... Even bands that aren't high on the mockery list...

Laptops are too expensive and don't fit in my pocket, and palms aren't good as standalone game players like the PSP is... Yeah... Not even a worthy comparison. Oh, and Palms are like 100 dollars more expensive, but since it's not a worthy comparison anyhow, that doesnt' matter.

And, yes... I do want to play the games... There just aren't any that are very good yet... For either system, really, though the backlog of GBA games does make up for that... Still, I'd still go for the PSP for a number of reasons, one of which being I LIKE that the PSP isn't just a game machine... I like UMD movies!

Oh, and Square-Enix does have an RPG coming for the PSP... It's YET ANOTHER FFVII offshoot... I hope they do the three PS1 era FF games on PSP... That would be nice, though I'm not sure if the PSP can trade out discs mid-gameplay...

ӔDIT: Oh, I'm including myself in that gamer label...

ӔDIT FLUX: Gamegear was great for playing when you were supposed to be sleeping late at night in bed, provided it was plugged in... I would NEVER try to run that battery hog without the wall socket...
