:jump: Ok, so who's heard of this game? Most big fans of the Chrono series will have heard of it...It's the text-based game that came between Trigger and Cross! Revolving around the characters Serge, Kid, and the mysterious Magil, it was never released in America, and no one had attempted to translate it. Until a few years ago, that is...Some one made a translation patch that was recently finished, and can be used with a ROM version of the game. And...I just played it for the first time the other day!!! n.n I read the game script a looong time ago, and I knew I wanted to play it...And I was finally able to!!! So, who else has been able to play Radical Dreamers? :D

Well, I'm not posting any links or anything...Just asking who else has been able to play it. n.n This thread is mainly meant to discuss the game itself, not for others to ask, "how do I get it" or "will you send it to me." So! Who else has been able to play it? ;D

Never played it myself.

I hadn't known that a translation patch had been finished. I'll consider looking into it sometime.

Chrono series creator Masato Kato has recently resurfaced to write the scenario for Seiken Densetsu DS. Here's hoping that S-E will have him do a Chrono 3 when that's all finished.

I've never heard of this. It's sounds really interesting so I'll have to look it up as well. Big fan of the Crono Trigger and Cross games. And yes people talk about subs here on this board all the time, which are technically illegal too. But as long as nobody posts any links to warez or anything related then there won't be a problem.

Haha, I read the script at GameFaqs first, actually, back when I first found out it existed. I'm such a huge fan of the whole Kid and Serge relationship thing, and I knew I wanted to play it the second I read it!! Hahaha, Kid is my favorite video game character ever! There are a few weird things in it (like the battle with the mechs or something...that one came outta nowhere! XD), but there are a lot of great storylines in it, too, like the fight with Lynx at the first ending...It almost made me cry! XD Great stuff, I say. Simply grand. :jump:

the thing I didn't like was it was a text RPG. I have no concept of direction. So if I can't see which way I'm going it confuses me.

I also like Serge X Kidd heh.

In a way, yeah, it kind of is...But, when you actually play it, it's SO much easier to understand! In the game script, since there's so many different things you can do, so many different paths to take to reach all of the different endings, it can get really confusing from just reading it!

Also, with the game, you can hear all the music, too, which was amazing for me! Chrono Cross has my favorite music, so I was ecstatic to hear some of my favorite songs! :D And yeah, Kazekami, sometimes it's pretty tough to think about where you have to go, but a lot of times the game will tell you where a certain path leads: "Go down the staircase, towards the study" or something like that.

Anyways, I love how it connects itself to Chrono Cross through that recording in the Dead Sea...The one where you hear Kid, Serge, and Magil talking in the ~other~ dimension, where Radical Dreamers obviously takes place. I guess I just find it really interesting how there's another dimension outside of Cross's "Home" and "Another World" dimensions. Ha, I love it!

I love Chrono Trigger and its my favorite RPG...well its on my top 10. I beat Chrono Trigger in a hurry to play Chrono Cross. BAD IDEA. I never beat Cross. Stuck on Fort Dragonia.

Radical Dreamers....ah, the game I never played. Is it easier to understand the plot to Cross is you read the script on GameFAQs? If so, i will certainly look into it.

Heh heh I did the same thing. I didn't like it much either. If they redid it where it wasn't text based I think it woulf be a lot more fun.

Yeah, considering Chrono trigger was an RPG that idea doesnt sound that farfetched. That`s like having Halo 3 be a turn-based RPG or Terminator 3 be a musical. -Not really-

EDIT: I had to share this! Swarcheneggar singing opera! Classic.

It really doesn't have much to do with Cross's plotline. It's more of a parallel story, one that runs alongside but never really intersects, other than some familiar music. It's still good, though. I would reccommend reading the GameFaq script first, because, confusing as it is, it makes playing the actual game a LOT more fun, and it makes the game easier to understand. XD

I dunno, maybe I liked it more because I had known for a long time that it was text-based. I knew what to expect; therefore, it was able to exceed my expectations, since I wasn't expecting much. Hearing the music and watching the scenery along with reading the (quite well written) story made it more special than just reading the script. I don't know, maybe it's because I love to read so much!! :D A book about Serge, Kid, and Magil...I'd read it anytime!

Chrono Cross was essentially a "remake" of Radical Dreamers. Its producers have stated as such.

Haha, a remake with 45032643 more characters and a silent protagonist. XD I really think that they should exist as two separate games, especially since Cross makes it seem as though Dreamers happened in a third dimension. It makes more sense to me, I guess. :D

Well, perhaps remake is not the correct term but Masato Kato's team took the very basic premise/story of Radical Dreamers and expanded/changed it from there. At one point, CC's Guile had been intended to be Magus/Janus (like a certain character in Dreamers) but they decided it would be impossible to do that plotline with a story of 40+ characters so it was scrapped.

Also, Chrono Cross's ending vocal theme is named Radical Dreamers.

Yeah, the whole Magus/Magil/Guile thing...If only there weren't as many characters!! Oh man, it would have been so much cooler if they had made that connection...! T.T

And I LOVE the ending to Cross...I could recite it right now...

Osanai te ni tsutsunda
Furueteru sono hikari wo
Kokomade tadottekita
Jikan no fuchi wo samayoi...

Sagashi tsuzukete kita yo
Namae sae shiranaikeredo
Tada hitotsu no omoi wo

Toki wa ai mo itami mo
fukaku dakitome
keshite yukukedo watashi wa
oboeteiru...Zutto...

Um. Ok, I'll stop fangirling now. Haha! :thumb:

Chrono Cross to me needs a better plot with six characters or at least a number close to that. If it had the same gameplay as Trigger, it would`ve been much better.

Sorry for the doublepost, but I have slight question. I just startingf reading Radical Dreamers and I have it saved on Microsoft Word but I have one question:

Is there a place where you can listen to the soundtrack for this game?

I would like top lay it while I`m reading it.

It`s nice to know in Radical Dreamers, Serge has a personality. In Chrono Cross, he has just as big of a personality as a Serge soda can. For those of you who were born yesterday, Serge is a brand of Mountain-Dew-like soda. Or at least it was

I recall a site I went to recently that had some of the music from RD. I don't remember the link or anything, though. A lot of the music in this game can be found in CC, but orchestrated, making CC's music better. There are some tracks that are exclusive to RD, but they aren't as good as the tracks in Trigger or Cross. They're midi's, too, so the quality is only so-so. It's better to find the game and listen to the music while playing it...The song played most often is a very quiet song that is meant to add to the Manor's ominous surroundings.

2 major questions that I must have answered.

1) -Less Important- Does all of Radical Dreamers take place in Viper Manor.

2) In Chrono Cross,
Lynx in Serge switched bodies
in my file. Is this switch permanent or does it eventaully change back?

Yeah, it pretty much does take place in Viper Manor. Unless you count the beginning of the game, when you're travelling toward the manor.
No, the switch is not permanent. You'll be the real Serge again before you reach disc 2. However, the portion of the game where you do take on Lynx's appearance is REALLY fun. :D
