Military brats

Postby meboeck » Fri Nov 11, 2005 5:28 am

How many of you grew up with parents in the military? I was born in Germany because my dad was stationed overseas with the airforce. Just curious to see who else here is a "military brat."

I am an Air Force brat. I was born at Wright Patterson Air Force base. My mother is as well, she was born at Landshtul (sp?) AFB in Germany. I also have lots of uncles, a cousin, and my brother who are were, or will be in some branch of the military. We have my great uncles WWI army uniform at my house. Very cool. My Aunt has the discharge papers of a relative who fought in the Ohio infantry during the Civil War, also very cool. I also have at least three realtives that I know of who died in service or in something closely related to it.

Air Force brat as well, though Dad got out in 1981. I do remember Clark AFB in the Philippines, though.

I'm not but my two oldest nephews are.My sister married an Air Force sergeant
and their oldest son was born when he was stationed in California and their younger one was born when he was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB in New York state.
My dad served in Hawaii during WWII and had a brother who served up in Alaska.
If anyone wants to read something interesting about WWII check out the story
of the war in Alaska.
My maternal grandfather served in the AEF during WWI,my paternal grandfather's
father had three brothers who served in the CSA during the Civil War as did his
father-in-law;my gg grandfather's father was a Captain in the Virginia infantry
militia during the War of 1812,and finally several of my relatives served in the
Continental Army during the Revolution and others before that in the Colonial
Militia.
Oh and also my maternal grandfather's maternal great grandfather was among
those who were conscripted into the Prussian army when Napoleon invaded Russia.
My point being even though I am not a military brat myself there have been a lot of men in my family on both sides who have seen military service.

I was born in Weisbaden! My family lived on Crete, but there weren't any good hospitals there so my mom got shipped all the way to Germany. It's cool to see so many air forcer kids! Although many of us aren't really kids anymore...

My father was USAF (he retired a few years back as Lt. Colonel). Now he works with the DOD as a civilian. I wanted to be in the military, but my physical condition wasn't good enough.

My mom was going to join the military but the Lord told her to become a nurse instead, thank God she got out of that one. My aunt on my mother's side was in the military and my dad's dad (deceased) worked on rockets (yes for astronauts) and worked on fighter planes, etc. Now used so frequently in the military. He was a genius. I wish he had lived longer though because my memories of him are very few. So, yeah, my family has some history with the military.

since Kazekami is my sister...you could therefore venture to guess that I, too am a wee-bee. Our dad retired in 1997...if I remember correctly.
Sad thing...I don't remember Wales...I was born stateside...in California...then, when I was three months old we moved to Wales...then, we were back in the states when I was three.
So...to be honest...the first place I truly remember living was Gulfport, Mississippi...

I wouldn't call myself a "brat" but my father is in the Air Force. I've only had to move once so my life resembles that of most civilians.

Best thing about being a military brat- All the goodies on base. Our base has the best pools, skate park, and bowling alley in town.

Worst thing- Two words: military ball. Dad's an ROTC instructor and at the end of every year, his crew throws a little ball for all his cadets. For some reason, God saw it fit to make me the only one in the family that can tolerate formal occasions so I'm always my dad's escort. For those of you who have never seen how much ceremony goes into these kind of things, wonderful. For those of you who have, my apologies. XD
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

My dad wanted to join the Indian Air force, but ended up not doing so. My dad's cousin was in the IAF, though. I think he is retired now. My cousin's grandfather, from his father's side, was in the British Navy during World War II. He was a communications officer on a ship, I think. And finally, some of my grandmother's uncles were in the Army.

I have thought about serving in the Canadian Navy, for a while but I don't think I could meet the physical requirements(sp?) :P.

Both of my parents were military brats. Mom's father was Navy during WWII in Alaska and my dad's father Air Force in Korea. They both left the service soon after my parents were born since my mom was the first for her parents and my dad the second for his.
