Complete Jewish Bible
A followup to the Jewish New Testament
It's a bible version that uses the Jewish names for Jewish people ("Yochanan" for "John", "Y'hudah" for Judah as well as Judas (they were the same name)
It also puts a different translation on some things, most of which I agree with but one I really don't. It's made to sound Jewish, because really it IS Jewish... The majority of the Bible (NT included) was penned by Jews, and it was made FIRST for a Jewish audience, second for a Gentile audience (Don't believe me? Read Paul's works... "first for the Jew" is a direct quote, and it's in KJV and NIV as well) so this translation is done to restore that feeling when reading it. Hebrew and Yiddish words pepper the writings, some of which do better to explain things that the English translations (such as the word that usually get's translated "hem of his garment" isn't a hem at all, but ceramonial strings that hang on a priest's clothing)
It also highlights all the quotations of the Old Testament, and emphasises Messianic Prophecy, to show to Jews who read it that Yeshua is the Messiah. Also, the transliteration of the names and cities are all roman and not english, which makes it a much easier task to read them for me...
Anyhow, I hope that some day a parallel version will include the CJB, because I would love to own something like that.
