Arrgg!! Javascript trouble

Postby Straylight » Sun Dec 07, 2003 12:24 pm

The smilie box and toolbar have been rendered completely functionless during the upgrade. I've spent literally two hours trying to figure out what is wrong, and I still haven't figured it out yet.

So unless a miracle happens, dont expect those bits to be working for a while...

(edit)NOTE: When using the smiley box, if you hover your mouse over the desired smiley, you can see the code for that smiley in the status bar. You can also see a list of smilies and code here:

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/misc.php?do=showsmilies

IMPORTANT!! IE users

There is an annoying feature in IE that is supposed to help people debug Javascript. It's turned on by default, and it throws these horrible annoying popups at your screen. Because the CAA currently contains more bugs than a termite's nest, here's some instructions on how to turn that "feature" off:

Click Tools > Internet options
A window pops up.
Click the "Advanced" tab
Under the "Browsing" category there are two checkboxes, set them up as below:
"Disable script debugging" < CHECK
"Display a notification about every script error" < UNCHECK

No more debugger popups! Yey!

It's Ok...we'll wait patiently. Thanks for working hard on the page. [cheers] ^^ We can still use 'typed' smilies. :)

'is_ie is undefined'

at least that's what it says. perhaps you really didn't define it? maybe it's not global? perhaps i should be quiet and don't annoy the programmers :P

I've got a workaround, if you can't remember or don't know the code for any given smiley. Simply find it in another post and click "reply" on that post. The automatically generated quote code will show the code for the smiley in question. (I figured that out all by myself at Anime Angels long ago. )

Give it a try with the grin in my post here if you like, as an example! ^_^

Yes, you can also use the list which is at the top of this thread ;)

There are quite a few bugs at the moment because of template problems. These will probably be fixed after Christmas

I'm running this through IE now, and I've just reproduced the error by setting IE up for "script debugging" - basically I reversed the checkboxes to how they are in the instructions.

Did you find the checkboxes that I indicated in the list? The method that I've given works with IE6. I'm afraid if you use an earlier version of IE I can't help you.

If you enter URLs in by themselves, it's usually smart enough to pick them out and flag them. If it's not that smart, try putting [ URL]your//link[/ URL] around them (obviously there are no spaces in those tags).

Images are probably best attached. "Go advanced" to do that.
