my hearing

Postby Slater » Fri Oct 28, 2005 10:17 am

ever since about 2 years ago when I got hit on the left side of my head with a basketball, I have been having trouble with my ear. It's fine usually, but if water gets in, I go virtually deaf in my left ear for a few days. That happened yesterday and so now I can't hear at all out of my left ear unless the source of sound is very close. Part of me thinks this may be due to a damaged eardrum (dunno if this is the case), but part of me also thinks that it's due to the fact that my ear now produces a lot more earwax than it should (this has been the case ever since the accident). It's also ever so slightly painful.

Very annoying. I'm using an over-the-counter eardrop solution that eats earwax and am praying that it will clear things up for now. I was considering going to the doctor about this when it happened a few months ago, but my mom is convinced that it's "not that bad."

So I just want prayer for my ear...

Have you had it checked out by a professional lately? Not just your regular MD, but a Dr that specializes in ear throat and nose?

Ruptured eardrums usually spontaneously heal within a few months. If you did rupture it before, I suspect it would have grown over by now.

One possibility is scarring or some sort of anatomical derangement. There may not be much that an ENT can do surgically, though.

I had a blocked ear for about a week once, and it drove me crazy! (I don't know what caused it; I just woke up deaf in one ear one morning.) I even had to play in a band with the blocked ear. Very frustrating. I know how it feels.

I will be praying.

yeah, I convinced my mom to let me go see my doctor if this doesn't clear up in 3 or 4 more days.

Cerumen (earwax) impaction is still the most common cause, though, and it can be quite uncomfortable besides being inconvenient. I can't tell you how many nasty, waxy ears I've had to spray out with a syringe in the office.

One lady a few months ago informed me that she couldn't hear out of her left ear. I couldn't see a thing with the otoscope, so I had the nurse come in to wash out the ear so I could get a better look and ... out popped the tip of a Q-tip and what seemed like a ton of wax. She could hear a lot better then.

Oi. I feel for you. When I was younger I had a few sets of ear tubes and it was not fun. Then, a few years ago I had to have surgery for a perforated eardrum. :shady: More not fun.

I'll definitely pray for you.

Good rule of thumb is not to put anything in your ear smaller than the size of your elbow, my Dr told me. ...ie, no q-tips.

BUT, having the wax vacumed out of your ears isin't all too plesant, if you ask me either...

Pick your poision. :thumbsdow

My problems comes from re-accuring ear injections because I have a hole in my ear drum that will not heal.

Though I occasionally goto the doctor for them to flush out my left ear too. From how you're explaining it, it does sound like you have a plugged up ear.

I hope it's nothing too serious. I'll be praying for you.

Wow! Praise God.

People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.
