I'm not sure sure that USB works. However you can go to the shops and buy something called a crossover cable, which you plug into the network card of each computer. A normal network cable won't work unless you get a hub.

There are other ways of transferring files too, such as via one of those USB dongle things.

1. Get crossover cable.
2. Set IP on box 1 to 192.168.1.1 (net mask 255.255.255.0)
3. Set IP on box 2 to 192.168.1.2 (net mask same as above)
4. Enable File sharing on one.

Make sure the same protocol is installed on each machine--TCP/IP for ethernet, IPX/SPX for serial cable. (I use the latter for my two-computer offline Windows 95/98 network; it's slow but does the job. ^_^ )

The thread has been down for awhile but I would like to bring it back up for a certain reason.

If you have AIM, and you have two screen names, long onto both of the computer with different screen names. Then what you do is go to the computer that has the file that you would like to transfer, and send it over by aim, that's the simplest way.

If you don't know how to send the file through aim, sign on first, then right click on the file, and send to a buddy on aim. Then type in the screen name, and then follow the instructions. That is the easiest way I know for you, I hope you will see that I posted this, it might save some money fro you.

That could take a really really long time if he has a lot of music, though.

If they're macs and they have firewire, you can connect them with a firewire cable, restart the laptop and hold down T after the chime and it will basically function as an external hard drive until you restart it again.
