RPG Maker XP!

Postby Fireproof » Sun Oct 16, 2005 7:20 pm

This just in: An officially translated tiral version of RPG Maker XP is available. After the trial runs out, you can buy a license. Check it out!
The new system is a lot cleaner, and can actually be scripted into. It's also got a very high resolution and a layer system, leading to more advanced games all round. Huzzah for creativity!
EDIT: The translation isn't perfect, but provides free entertainment. A default item is "Ring of Dextality."

Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah, Halleluyah, Halle-luyah! And so forth... This is the most incredible bit of computer news I've heard in a long time! I had RPG Maker for PS2, and I was regretting it and wishing I hadn't had that pang of conscience EDIT Pang of conscience that caused me to delete RPG Maker 2000, I mean, sorry... I really was thinking of getting it back, and didn't want to start getting back into warez but I missed RPG maker and... Well, thankfully, that temptation won't be there anymore... I'm getting it tonight, if I can... Gotta watch Netscape so it doesn't disconnect me...

That's interesting. Glad to see they've finally brought this line over, though I can't say I'll really use this one.

(My brother and I downloaded this yesterday night... I like it alot, my only qualm is that there's no "world map" tilesets (a la Golden Sun). 'Tis terribly annoying, since you have to have larger maps, and I personally like the world map system.)

I believe you can import them from the previous versions if you don't mind the resolution drop.

(I tried, but the way the tilesets are made are different. XP conpresses the old tilesets, making them look very, very odd when you try to use them. I just have to wait for someone else to make one, since my skills with making tilesets are severly lacking.)

I actually have several full games with this planned out. I'm going to use it as practice for getting a feel for the art of game design; I may even use them for my portfolio when I apply for a job in the game industry.

I spent like 100+ hours on 2000... Provided they didn't alter it too much, this proggie and I will be getting back to buisness (just like strongbad.)

By that, of course, I mean I should fit right back into the designing thing... Actually, with my book at the point it's at right now, I should be able to design something to go with that... Coordinated projects...

BTW, the PS2 game (RPG Maker 2) is entirely legal and legit and in English... It just sucks, that's all... Everything ends up looking like Animal crossing... Oh, and it's just hard to navigate...

Ok... I've worked with it for a little while, and I have this to say about the transition from 2000 to XP...

Hit and miss...

Yeah, there are some good changes. There are a lot of things that HAVEN'T changed... But there are some very nice things that were removed...

Changes I noticed so far:

1. The graphical changes are nice, but not that important.
2. Having more formats to import from for music and sounds and maybe for graphics (I'm not sure, I didn't check) is VERY NICE... I like being able to use WMAs and MP3s as BGM. I will be making good use of that.
3. Some of the event commands were removed entirely... Some basic things that are apparently possible in this version are impossible to find, and some things that were possible with 2000 are no longer possible with XP... No world map (no autoscrolling maps) no region selecting for enemy battles (You will fight the same monsters on the ENTIRE MAP), and some of the translation problems have made things rather confusing... (odd and even? I just figured that one out)

Overall, it's much better than the PS2 one, and its legal... I shouldn't complain too much... Yeah, I'm not going to complain anymore. I like it!

I'm greatly pleased about being able to use MP3's. I hated having to convert them with the old version.
