Keeping Up Appearances

Talk about anything in here.

Yeah, well, while I like wearing heels and have only ever experienced minimal discomfort from them, I do agree that being required to wear them is purely idiotic. If it means that much my future boyfriend, I'll tell him that he can wear the heels himself and see how he likes it. Seriously.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

I could care less about heels actually. I really would prefer the girls I hang out with to be comfortable and not whining about painful feet.

I also tend to go after girls that arn't that much shorter than me (50% of the time) so heels umm... look odd since they suddenly are an inch taller than me.

Each culture in each time period seems to have impossibly strange beauty practices. Someday they'll look back on tanning and heels the same way as we look on feet binding and lead makeup. :shake:

Hey, I do both of those things!

JK. Yeah, you have to wonder about that. Like what other things that seem to be perfectly normal to us now will be ridiculed in years to come. I mean, one day our kids will look at pictures of us as teenagers and say, "Mom, what on earth possessed you to wear that! That is soooo uncool!" It'll be interesting to see what those things will turn out to be.

I used to wear heels quite often until I had to start wearing them to work everyday. Eight hours of walking around in my favorite pair of three-inchers on concrete floors and I had officially retired every last pair.

Now I am very happily back to my flip flops and Converse All-Stars. (Neither of which are much more healthy for your feet.)

And, yes. I am looking for another job. ^^
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

I have probably about 7 pairs of heels, but the only ones that hurt are a burgandy pair I have that are strappy and have 4.5" heels and a pink pair I have that are about 4" with a pencil sized heel. The sole isn't flexible, either, so those hurt HORRIBLY. I don't wear heels all the time, though...my knees are a little worn out from when I used to wear them four or so times a week for hours on end. I do like to jazz up my attire every now and then with a pair, though : )

Ack, how do you walk in those things? XD I wouldn't be able to stand in those pencil ones! XD Yeowch!

Anyways, I think I own like....One pair of heels, and they're about an inch and a half off the ground. I can't wear heels too often, since I have what's called achilles tendonitis in my ankles--They hurt if I wear them too long! XD I don't mind wearing them every once in a while, though. Pretty! :D

I was taught how to wear heels a long time ago and don't have trouble with walking and functioning in them. BUT, I do prefer tennis shoes 99.9% of the time :)

I wouldn't like to wear them everyday. I think my feet would fall off >.<

And, as for the guys who think their partners have to wear them, I agree with everyone else who says for him to wear heels for a while and experience the pain...

Well, I guess I've just been thinking a lot about relationships recently and the Bible summary for guys seems to be 'Love her as Christ loved the Church'. Some how I have trouble picturing Christ asking us to do something that would be bad for us but satisfy His ego, or let Him off somehow.

Life is about enjoying God and glorifiying Him. Life with others is to be a reflection of that, enjoying others, enjoying life with them, a celebration. So over the past few weeks my attitude has been developing so that silly superficial preferences take a distant back seat to the health and benefit of a significant other. The Lord bless all you ladies, and may you be free to be the ladies and women you desire to be, the ones God is calling you to be.

May all us guys take up our responsibility to help you do that, not hinder you or push you the other way.

Hah, this reminds me:

Reasons why being female is better than being male:

When a ship sinks, women (and children) get off first.

A woman can hug her best friend without worrying she'll think she's gay.

Women live longer than men.

If a woman inexplicably disappears for two weeks, one of her friends will notice.

A woman can take a drive without trying to beat her best time.

Women can be groupies. Male groupies are stalkers.

Women can cry and get off a speeding ticket.

If a woman says something stupid, most men will just think she's cute.

If a woman cries, she's sensitive; if a man cries, he's a wimp.

It's cool to be a daddy's girl. It's sad to be a mummy's boy.

Women can watch one TV channel at a time without getting bored.

A woman's friend won't try to persuade her to get a tattoo while she's drunk.

Women aren't covered with hair like shag carpeting.

Women know exactly what buttons to push to get exactly what they want.

Women don't think reading the manual is a betrayal of all their species stands for.

Women can keep pot plants alive for more than a week.

I don't have high heels. I have platforms. I'm too clumsy to own any. Besides, your information has convinced me even more.

I don't exactly agree with those.

But, I'm a girl, and I consider following the manual a betrayal of my species!

But the whole buttons thing is true! Bwahahahahaha! ;)

Anyway, I hate flip flops. The only time I'll wear them is if I'm REALLY late for something casual and there's nothing else to put on. They make you feel like you're not wearing shoes! Yeck!

Well, actually it depends on how high the heel is. I won't wear things that are as tall as me knee. that's torture. I can see your side to it but I think women love shoes and some for some reason don't care if their feet hurt so long as the actual shoes are cute. It's kinda strange if you ask me. ^^;;;

As for me, I wouldn't want someone I care about to be uncomfortable for my sake, because it's much more important to be relaxed and have fun. I might ask a girl to wear a certain outfit on a special occasion, but not if she had any objections, and certainly not every day.

Having said that I do think women are their cutest in platforms ;)

Heh, that list was meant as a lighthearted joke about stereotypes and stupid stuff. Like women being able to keep a potted plant alive for more than a week, and how they are able to hug their friends without anyone thinking something stupid. Actually the second one all depends on how a person is raised. My family is big on hugging, so I think nothing of it. But I have a friend that always makes jokes about that whenever possible. lol

"Awww, but we lurves the flip flop!"

Yeah, what is it about flip flops? I've seen almost every single one of my female friends wearing flipflops at one point or another, but none of my male friends. I don't like flipflops either. You can't run easily with them, they're not as comfortable as real shoes, they don't protect your feet at all from the top or sides, you can't dance easily with them without flinging them off your feet into someone's head, the ones I've worn slip off way too easily, and the sounds they make can get really annoying.

If flip-flops fit right they don't tend to make the annoying sound.

And most guys at my school LIVE in flip-flops. It's basically just a way to be barefoot without getting in trouble for....being barefoot.

What can I say? I like flip-flops! :grin:

But only in the summer. I always wonder how people can walk around in shorts and flipflops during the winter, when it's cold enough for snow. But I see this every year. (Usually it's men, too.)
