Stopping Rita

Postby phinny5608 » Thu Sep 22, 2005 11:38 pm

They say nothing is too big for God. Well, I suggest we pray that God will decrease, diminish, and ultimately stop Rita. But, of course, the will of God be done, whatever it may be.

Here's something else that may help:

"...specific ways to pray to disrupt a hurricane are: to increase the central pressure inside the storm, to decrease the swirling winds, to lower the temperatures of the warm Gulf waters, to dry out the mid-levels in the storm's atmosphere, to disorganize the system, and to send large values of vertical wind shear to disrupt the cyclonic winds."

That's where I got the quote, if you want to check it out.

What is Rita? Some tornado or something? Is it like the New Orleans scene?

Rita is another hurricane, such as Katrina which struck New Orleans. I don't know the whole details, but I think it's headed for Texas. Last I heard it was a category 3 (5 being the highest)

It was a category 5, with winds up to 280 km/h. However, when it hit the cooler waters closer to the coast, it lost energy and has since dropped to a category 3.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.
