Do you feel other peoples emotions?

Postby Syaoran » Mon Sep 19, 2005 6:20 pm

Do you feel other peopls emotions.... some times I can feel other peopls feeling. and some times it hurts me when they are in a argument with some one, or sad, or lonly. this thing I do also helps me to under stand what is wrong with the person and then I would know how to help them out of it. I find it weard but I can feel other peoples emotions by lissening to then or just reading what they have posted.

This has always been a very difficult thing for me. Other than my family, I have a very hard time feeling others' emotions. I'm quite an introvert, so it isn't that surprising.

A Introvert? would that be like keeping to your self and not letting any thing in.

I never thought about it as a Gift...Silvanis.

Yes. I have that too. But for me, it's more that I can tell from their eyes or facial expression what they're really thinking or feeling. Also when there's a situation I might want to avoid. I count this as a blessing, so it's not really weird after awhile. I just learned to listen to it. Also, I think it's just that some people are more sensitive to the nuances in others' personalities. Is that what you mean?

Yes, I have this feeling also, that I can feel other's emotions. That I can feel how they feel inside...There are different levels of this feeling though.

Sometime you can know EXACTLY what that person feels while the next time you will just feel that there is something that isn't allowing you to feel what their emotions are.

It's really different for everyone I guess.

1.understanding of another’s feelings: the ability to identify with and understand another person’s feelings or difficulties
2. attribution of feelings to an object: the transfer of your own feelings and emotions to an object such as a painting

I'm not sure about the last one, but the first one hits the nail on the head. So, why don't you think it's good? I mean it kind of weirded me out at first too. But then I prayed and asked God to lend me guidance and intuition about these things. So I don't think it's bad. Just takes some getting used to.

It can be hard.

I've heard it's a gift from God to be able to feel others' pain, though.

I'm a very empathic guy. I hate to see people sad because I wish the best for everyone I care for. I think a lot of what we go through in our lives helps us relate to others- whether it's out of empathy or sympathy.

Although I may not always know the best things to say, I always try to help comfort and encourage the people I care for.

It feel that way for people I'm really close too...
of course sometimes when I hope and pray for the best of people, I tend on getting jealous >_< Sort of like my friend who recently moved away and I prayed that things would go good there (cause he didn't know anyone at first) but for time to time, I'm sort of envious on how he's made sooo many friends now, which is good, but at the same time think "Hope he doesn't forget me in the crowd full of new friends!" etc. etc. Getting that "best friend fill-in" sort of thing...

I did want him to be happy cause I could tell he was lonely at first... but even through my jealousy or whatever, I'm glad he's happy^^ and that's the important thing.

All in all if I can tell that something is definately wrong with someone, I'll try the best I can to cheer them up etc! Not very good with confronting people v_v But I'll try even harder! My friends are too important to me!

I can usually pick up someone else's feelings if I try. I can also try to talk over it, which is handy if I'm getting something negative.

It's very useful in medicine.

There is one thing that I've noticed is weird, though. You would think that if you can feel real people's emotions, you would sympathize with the charaters' emotions in books and movies and such. But for me, I can't remember crying in a movie, ever. Maybe it's just that they're acting, so it's fake. Is anyone else like this?

Yea, I have a hard time being in dollar stores alot of times because I feel the depression alot of people seem to have in there(our dollar stores, anyway). And I find it hard to relate to disabled people because I tend to pick up on their pain.

Movies and books I don't seem to pick up on the emotions that are going on.....ya it is fake and that could play a role of not being able to pick up on it.

I can feel other peoples emotions, but sometimes your own emotions can get mixed in with theirs. So it's hard sometimes to know if it's them are me. I can feel God's pain when I listen to a song about how God loves the world yet the world rejects Him. I allways cry and think about the bible verse were Jesus says how He would like to put His wings around Israel like a mother hen does for her chicks

Your right. I always feel sad when I think about the world's rejection of God.
I also feel mad at myself for my sins which are like rejections of God. It makes me want to be a better christian.

Whoa! This thread is amazing! When i read the first post i was all "WHOA!"

I really have serious empathy. I have actually tried to explain it to my friends and parents. Like... i may not know exactly what someone is going through, but i can feel what it must feel like, when people are all "You don't know what it feels like," I think in my head "Oh yes i do."

I cry during movies AND books. hehe. Yesh, i am THAT awsome.

I starting crying when i was talking to one of my atheist friends, cause not only what she was saying, i felt how empty and alone she was... that void that only God can fill... i felt it... it was SO depressing.

I think it is a gift, and i think God will use it in ways we cannot even yet fathom.
