Concerning geocities:

Postby Azier the Swordsman » Wed Nov 26, 2003 11:30 pm

I am not able to get any pictures uploaded onto my geocities account to display in my sig. Is there a way to get it to work? If not, does anyone know of a good server (that's free) I can use?

No, any linking to files other than an HTML file isn't allowed by Geocities.

I see. Then, I need an alternative.

Well, there are two ways you can go about this. The first is to ask around CAA for someone to host the image for you; the second is anything else someone can come up with that will host files/images for free.

no, you CAN use geocities like me... Rename the file to a .txt instead of .jpg, and image link it the same way, it works wonders! But, keep the file small so your account won't lock up by sheer number of downloads...

AND make sure you have some kind of a homepage (anything, put some html with unknown materials in it that vaguely makes sense) in geocities. sometimes they check your site and might delete it if you use it for storage purposes.

The size of my custom banner isn't quite working out, and I'm having trouble resizing it while retaining the picture quality. So I'm settling with the Sonic/Amy picture for now, but don't be surprised to see my sig change quite a bit over the next couple of days as I keep experimenting.

1and1.com is offering free webhosting (w/ pop3, php, mysql, ssh, etc) for 3 years. It's good service, but the control panel and logins are a pain. And it's free.

I already set up an account with photobucket, so I'm good to go.

Free hosting is poop. Though, Angelfire allows direct image linking now.

Actually, 1and1 has good hosting...it's professional hosting...it's the setup that's terrible...

Somehow that seems a bit cheap and I somehow feel that shouldn't even work in web browsers... but hey,

You Rock little Dude! :thumb: (and I'll have to remember that if I decide to use my Geocities account and want to link an image)

I didn't come up with that... I think it might have been Gypsey, but I forget... Someone on CAA told me how to do that.
