On the same token, someone needs to teach you manners - neither is likely to happen soon.

This is untrue, it is the sum total of churches that are neither Roman Catholic, nor national-based 'Orthodox' churches like the Greek Orthodox Orthodox, Byzantine Orthodox, and Russian Orthodox churches. Granted, the Presbyterian and other Calvinist churches tend to call themselves "The reformed church", though they have no more exclusive claim to being reformed than the Roman Catholics to being "one holy catholic and apostolic church" or the Greek Orthodox church to orthodoxy.Rachel wrote:Just a little off topic, but I was wondering...what does the term protestant mean? You've misinterpreted what I said, what I said is that key ingredients of these names are not exclusive to the groups that take them into their names. What I denied is that "protestant" means simply the Presbyterian church.AnimeHeretic wrote:The place to debate this is Theologyweb. Statements like this seem to only result in angry retorts and locked threads. The original intent of the thread was to ask people's denominations, not to attack the beliefs of the denomination. Of course their names reflect upon their theology, because in general what one picks for a group name reflects the things they highly value. That does not mean that their theologies exclusively have the concepts in their names, which was my point in the beginning to not let there be confusion.AnimeHeretic wrote:If you had just said that, it would be fine, but your mentioning of particular denominations is potentially disruptive, since some members of the denominations do believe what they do regarding their names on 'orthodoxy', 'catholic' and 'reformed', and it reflects in their theology. You may disagree, but I think this is where a respectful silence is needed unless you go to forum like Theologyweb. As I said, this is a thread of people stating their denominations, and I think comments that seem to make judgements like that do not fit in with the Mission Statement of CAA.

Well, putting things in quotes always carries the risk of perception of being sarcastic or not being sarcastic. Today on Theology Web Paltalk I sarcastically repeated the accusation that orthodox preterism is a heresy as "our heresy" and got an objective response as if I was serious, and here I was interpreted as sarcastic when I wasn't - this is the danger of language sometimes. If you can think of a way I could have done my original wording in the same space better, don't hesitate to post or P.M. it to help in my sometimes impaired ability to speak my own language.AnimeHeretic wrote:I see. That clarifies matters.
You may wish to be more precise on phrasing then, as it initially appeared to be a disdainful comment on those who believed these things about theirselves.
