URGENT question!!

So my friend and I are working on this HUGE project that we hope to finish by Friday but we are on a VERY tight schedule! And well, we have one problem^^ You see, we have a CD-R that won't rip back onto the comp because it's not a DVD-R, therefore not classified as a DVD movie :/ And well, you can't exactly copy and paste it with all the little files that come with it.

So please PLEASE any help would be MUCH appreciated! Pwease help?

(And just for the record so it's not like you're helping to encourage illegal activity, it's a home video. Nothing downloaded or anything).

if you are trying to get files off of a DVD and all you have is a CD-R drive, you can't do it. you'll have to find someone who has a DVD drive to do it for you.

Oh she does have a DVD drive... it's just the program that can't read it as a DVD :/

If I'm understanding right, you're trying to copy the contents of a CD-R disc in a DVD-ROM drive to your hard drive? I don't see why it shouldn't work, unless the program you're trying to use is specifically meant for DVDs. You may do better just to copy and paste all the individual files into a temporary folder on your hard drive using Windows Explorer. (Let me know if you need help on how to do that, and I can explain -- but I'll need to know which version of Windows you use first. )

I COULD do that... but I have another idea that just MIGHT work (if not, I'll try your suggestion). I'm hoping that if I stick the DVD in a DVD player and try to record it back onto the camera and then onto the comp it might work!

uhmm... best idea that I can think of is download the trial of Nero Burning ROM and rip the DVD as a .iso file. very simple.

Just did a "burn as DVD" onto the CD-R.

She does have Nero, but when trying on another ripping program it said that an ISO couldn't be found :/

Okay, here goes... bear with me here. ^_^;

First you need to make sure that Windows Explorer is capable of showing hidden files by doing the following:

1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop to open it. Or, if it's not there, you can find it the Start menu. Where it is depends on whether you've got the "Classic" Start menu enabled.
2. In that window, in the Tools menu click Folder Options... and the dialog that pops up, click the View tab.
3. About halfway down the scroll list, make sure that the option to Show hidden files and folders is checked.
4. Now, click Apply and then Apply to All Folders and close the dialog. Hidden files and folders should now always be visible, though their icons will be a little faded.

Now you should be ready to copy and paste! ^_^ Here's how to do that...

5. With the current instance of My Computer still open and with the CD in the DVD-ROM drive, go to its root directory by right-clicking the drive icon and choosing Open. (If you double-click it, you may end up playing it instead -- which we don't want.)
6. Under the Edit menu, choose Select All. Then, under the Edit menu again, choose Copy.
7. Open a second instance of My Computer (like in step 1 above) and double-click the hard drive icon.
8. If you haven't already, you'll want to create a temporary working folder to which you'll copy everything from the CD. Under the File menu, choose New and then Folder. A new folder will appear in the window, asking for a name. Once you give it one and press Enter, browse there by double-clicking it.
9. Once again under the Edit menu, choose Paste.

Alright, I'll try that tonight on her comp. Thanks and I'll tell ya how it went!
HOPE it'll work because after DVD ripping some stuff, apparently they don't appear to want to work on our editing program (Pinnacle 9). :/

Thanks for the help, unfortunately... Pinacle 9 (or at least my friend's comp) is stupid with those things so in the long run, yeah it didn't work out :/
