1) Guest Vocalists - Ruined the orginal sound of DH. Sometimes a guest vocalist can improve a sound (like in The Showdown with Josh Scrogin) but utilizing not 1 but 4 different artists just lessens Demon Hunter's orginal sound to a hodge podge of other styles. I would of been fine if Mike Williams or Howard Jones did guest vocalists but when they did two as well as adding Brock Lidow and Trevor McNevan just about destroyed DH's individual sound.
2) SoD was all hyped up but failed to serve. Thier was just a blitz of info, rumors, and media surrounding it that when it came out, it was just a downer.
3) Demon Hunter shouldn't be producing multiple albums. It is a side band. The only band members with Jesse Sprinkle leaving for DP is Ryan and Don Clark. Kris McCaddon, and Jon Dunn are just in the band for concerts. So to me, unless they get perminate members as well as taking a full stance on carrying this band, they don't have the heart or energy in it. Ryan and Don have Asterisk Studios which is first and foremost priority (plus thier families and God of course
)
4) The songs sounded the same. Some bands can pull this off but I found myself skipping way to many times cause the music ran together. The only stand out songs, to me, was I Play Dead, Our Faces Fall Apart, and The Latest and the Last. All the other songs failed to impress me or just seem to blend together.
5) And proably the biggest reason however it is a far cry from being a true solid reason is I am a die-hard fan, crazy fan boy of the first album. It was a little short of worshipping it. I don't think it left my c.d. player from June 2003 till that December. Loving the brutal yet beautiful style of songs like "Through the Black", "The Gauntlet", and "Screams of the Undead".
The new sound on SoD did anything BUT impress or make me like it whereas the self-titled not only introduced me to metal and opened many doors to other good metal bands. So yeah...but hey if you like it. more power to you. IK am just not a fan of it however, that doesn't mean I am not a huge supporters of the band. I am excited about this c.d. However, I guess I am more excited at Becoming the Archetype and Opeth's new albums which are coming out soon.
