More prayer for college requested ^^;

Postby Slater » Thu Aug 25, 2005 5:09 pm

Alright, I took my first Java class today. I must say, it looks pretty kewl. Only about 20 students, and Kacha (what we get to call our teacher, a sweet woman with a thick German accent ^^) is thinking of installing a coffee machine in the room for us (you can all laugh now). However, there's a small problem...

The prerequisites to join this class are as follows: either pass CSC 210 (Introduction to Computer Programing) or get permission from the instructor. Seeing how that I've only been in college 2 days now, I haven't had a chance to do CSC210 yet.

So why on God's green earth would I join this class? Well, a few things... First off, on Freshman Orientation day on campus, my student advisors told me that I would be able to take that class as a first-simester student there. They didn't mention any prerequisites for that class (tho when it came to Calculus they did mention that there were a few, which I was able to do), so I thought I was good. Also, the class schedule didn't mention any requirements for the class. The online class registration schedule says that it's open to all students as well. So, it's not like I went into this thing thinking that I might have to fight to stay in it. I just recently found out about this prerequisite.

So here's what I'm gonna do... I'm gonna e-mail Kacha, asking if I can be in her class. My proposition is that I will study my hardest and make an effort to understand any concepts that I can't understand right off the bat when it's taught in the book (The book requires no previous computer programming knowledge and only requires basic High School-level algebra). Also, there's a new class, CSC211, a one unit class, which is made to help students understand Java and C++ better and help with stuff like homework problems, so I'd ask if I'd be allowed to stay in Java if I took that class as well.

So I'm just asking for prayer about this... It makes me REALLY nervous, the thought that I might be booted out of a class like that. So plz... ^^; Pray that Kacha will allow me to stay in her class... My mom will kill me if they drop me -_-;

Will do! I'm sure you've got a good chance of staying, what with your math skills and all. Your willingness to take extra measures should show them you're serious about it as well.

Yep, been there, with a programming class that had a prerequisite I didn't know about. I ended up dropping mine, though I'm not saying that's what you should do. Probably the best thing to do is to talk with your prof. and see if you mutually feel it's best for you to take it or go with a lighter programming class first.

In any case, lifted one for you.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

Are you sure it's the prof. call? Might you have to go to the Head of the Department? I'll pray for you.

That's great to hear :thumb:!

I didn't like Java at first. But then I got used to it, and now it's okay. (I didn't mean to put you off..)

If you have any Java questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

Here's my advice frwl.

1. You'll be fine as long as you work hard, do your homework and understand it.
2. Never be afraid to ask a question, no matter how stupid or awkward it seems.
3. Take advantange of your professor's office hours to ask questions about things you can't understand.
4. In order to get through it, school will have to come first, before friends and before recreation.
5. Try not to take too many classes and overload yourself.

Good luck, I'll say a prayer for ya.

Programming's interesting. :)

I'd love doing that class and hanging around with a bunch of Computer-Geeks ( :D ), I'd minister to them! :D
And have fun studying that. Both my parents did that.

So I'll pray for you to not drop out, and for other things concerning this as well. ;)
