Do you read in the book store?

I usually just do a quick flip-through. I feel like a jerk reading in the store, but I might do it more often. The bookstores around here seem to encourage it. Barnes and Noble has chairs and stuff all over the store and so does Hastings.

I read in bookstores all the time, especially the B. Dalton in the mall because it has a reading bench thingy; I would feel bad about it if I didn't shop there and buy stuff from them all the time, but since I'm such a regular customer I don't mind doing it. It's not like I'm shamelessly taking advantage of their merchandise, because if I really like it I will buy it (I'm the kind of person who can read something I enjoy over and over again and not get tired of it very quickly.) And if I read something in the bookstore and think, "This is so lame," then I'm glad I took the time to check it out while I was there, seeing as how it takes way too much effort to return a book, especially because their easy to accidentally damage and you can't return them if you damage them. So anyways, yes, I quite frequently spend several hours reading in the bookstore.

I do. All the time. A good portion of my weekend afternoons are spent reading in Barnes & Nobles, sitting in the floor (trying to keep out of others way, but I'm often the only one in that section) if the chairs are all taken. Its where I get to read most of my manga (becuase I do not have a bunch of money) and I skim through books I might buy. But I guess I'm a bit like Yumie, I'm always at B&N, some of the people who work there sort of recognize me, and I'm not one who comes, reads, and leaves without every buying. Except w/ manga *reprimands herself* I shamelessly sit in the store and read volumes then not buy it.

I read books that I dont want to bother buying at the book store. It is comfortable and has more new books than the library.

C-friend and I always read in the bookstore together at the mall. >^.^< We can spend hours reading and browsing at all the books! Lol! *grin* >^w^<;; About the only books I don't buy before readng is ones I've been collecting for a while and all ready know the story line. >^^< Than I eagerly buy it and read it at home or where ever I end up next.

Well, you can exchange them for store credit at Walden, which is just as good as returning it for me because I know I'll use the credit (since I buy so much manga )

Yeah,I do it a lot.Mainly in the Religious,Sci Fi(including the Graphic
Novels where they keep the Manga)History and Humor sections.
You really can't shop without looking through the latest Garfield!
Actually a lot of the time when I do read it's generally the books that
I want to buy but can't because they're too expensive,especially ones
on the Civil War.
And yes I do read through Manga even when I know what titles I want
to buy.
For example tommorrow I plan on getting Inuyasha,Ranma 1/2 and
Maison Ikkoku but will probably look through several other titles as
well.

That's pretty cool that your allowed to read books in store in the US. You can barely 'browse' the books here in Australia. Bummer.

its better of there is like a cafe or a coffee shop to sit down and read. My local Borders has an area to read books

Every time we go to the mall, I go to BAM! and read various manga, skateboard magazines, humor books, books of poetry, and sometimes you can catch me reading Seventeen. Hahaha.

Usually all the chairs are already taken, so I just sit in the floor and try not to get in people's way.

I read in the bookstore a lot! In fact, there's this manga that's an easy read, I don't even bother buying it. I just read it in the store and save money.

As cool as it is having bookstores let you read books instore (grr), how do they make any money, since people can read whole books/manga without having to buy them?

Well, the local Borders seem to have NO problem, since there are often lines for the checkout, and the parking lot is usually full.

The way I figure it is that even the people who come to read, well, when they want to buy something, aren't they going to buy it there? Plus they sell a lot of coffee and such, too.

Personally, I have only chosen that one series to read in the store. I still let the bookstore make money by buying other manga and novels. I also help business by buying a lot of gifts at bookstores. So I'm not trying to cheat the store or anything like that.

Most stores will accept merchandise back if you keep the receipt and do not damage the material. Some refund you, others only give you credit. This is a fairly common policy.

Because, in the end, people still buy books. Furthermore, if they're always reading books in one store, if they ever need to buy one, where are they likely to look first?

heh i greatly abuse my bookstores, i cant remmber the last time i bought anything, but i often go there to read magazines and look for book to buy online^^

I can't rememver if I posted here, but oh well.

THere's a Walnden books in the mall. I'll go to the bookstore with my bother while everyone goes shopping. Whether or not I read in there depends on when my family gets back. I usualy jsut look though all the manga... One time the GHost in the Shell manga didn't have the plastic wrap on it. I didn't read the age rating on the back either. Oops. But that's besides the point.

I read in the bookstore. (going today!) But a lot of times while I'm in the middle of a series they stop carrying parts of it. I was on book 3 of DNAngel, but all the bookstore had was 1,2,4,5,6,7,8
