Know any good leadership bible study books?

Postby TurkishMonky » Fri Aug 19, 2005 9:16 am

Note to mods: if this needs to go somewhere else, please move it. I couldnt decide where it needed to be, so i just put it in general.

I am starting a bible study with some teens in my church, and it kind of spiraled out of a message by my youth pastor about combating the junk in our culture (he was inspired by the Battle Cry book)

And anyway, I've been heavily studying books and searching through our christian bookstore, but books on leadership in our culture are few, and bible studies on it are even fewer (at least at our christain bookstore, there are 0 leadership bible studiy books) I spent 3 hours leafing through the store, and came up with nothing.

So, does anyone know of any good books (esp. bible study books) on leadership or combating a perverse culture by leadership? I'm open for suggestions. :?:

I don't know what denomination you are with or if that really matters to you in regard to this study. Southern Bapstist's have material each year for what we call January Bible Study. This year's study is on the book of Nehemiah. The youth material is entitled: Under Construction: Building Leaders One Brick at a Time. Here is a description of the study:

Developed especially for teen use in 2006’s January Bible Study, this set of five Bible studies guides teens to examine the characteristics of leadership as presented in the Book of Nehemiah. With lessons that focus on Nehemiah’s vital character traits that he put to use in carrying out God’s work such as loyalty, diligence, perseverance, honor, faithfulness, influence, and most of all, obedience to God’s will, students will see the importance of becoming godly leaders who impact their world for Christ.

You can find this study at http://www.lifeway.com.

This could in fact not match your criteria, but I know that The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament by John H. Walton, Victor H. Matthews, and Mark W. Chavalas, and The IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament by Craig S. Keener focus on giving the cultural background behind the entire Bible, and a combined reading of that with the Bible for a well informed and responsible reading of the Bible may lead to some gems of ideas on ways to engage our own culture by looking to the Bible and its relation to the cultures it dealt with.
