Dork is the new Cool...? - CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Dork is the new Cool...?

Talk about anything in here.

Dork is the new Cool...?

Postby Ren_sama » Sat Aug 13, 2005 1:22 am

My mother found an article in our local newspaper about being 'dorky' is now 'cool.'

I read the article, giddy at the fact that my dorky-ness is acctually something to be proud of. (Not saying that I wasn't proud of it prior to the article)
Then author mentioned that her sister, being a 'self-proclaimed' dork, loves anime as well as drawing it.
She says that what makes her sister so dorky was the ability to draw anime.

Duscussion...

Now I was just wondering, since when was being able to draw anime somewhat of a dorky trait?
Is anime dorky?
Dorky...is it really the new cool?
Thoughts on the article?

BTW. Article can be found here: http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050809/COLUMNISTS14/508090304/1162/ABOUTMENWOMEN

BWHAHAHAHA I think all those seemingly derogatory (Sp) words are actually words of compliment... I like Freaks, Dorks, Nerds, Fanboys, Fangirls... because they all kinda describe me... When someone calls me that, I thank them...Because in my eyes, IT IS GREAT TO BE DIFFERENT!

I would actually describe, Watching, Drawing and REading Anime more of a Nerdish word...but that is just me... If It is known As Dork, then So be it..

*climbs upon a mountain* I AM A DORK!! dork..dork...dork... (the last part was an echo)

I didn't read the article. But I think these definitions just change according to the times, depending how the majority of people use them.

For example, some people mean "great" when they say "sick".

I personally don't think being able to draw anime was ever dorky. How can having a skill be considered dorky? :)

I think dorkiness may not be only confined to the ability or inability to draw anime.

Maybe dorkiness is more universal than that, and we have to consider other skills.

It may also be a case of "dorked if you do and dorked if you don't".

LOL. :)

What are you talking about Shao? Words were made to be changed! To be taken as they are...or misunderstood (all except for the Bible..that is the ONLY truth...)

I mean there are so many ways a word can be taken... which is why...* changes into a chibi and points to a chalk board* They made.."PHILOSOPHY!!!" WOOOOOOOT!

ChristianRonin - glad you found that remark funny. :)

Yeh you're right. We'd all have to carry dictionaries around with us, and everytime someone said something, the rest of us would be flipping our dictionaries at a mad pace and say "Wait .. one moment please...".

And because we asked the speaker to wait, he/she would have to use his/her dictionary to find out what our words meant ... which would cause him/her to speak another statement asking us to wait .. which would in turn generate more furious page turning from us and yet another statement ..

..ultimately culminating in a vicious never-ending cycle. :)

You don't need fairy dust just the teeth/tail/eyes of such and such magical beast. They're not grinded up fairies either so it helps the fairy population recoup from eons of dust usage.:P

Faerie dust doesn't really harm the general faerie population, as most dust faeries are raised in farms for that purpose. In fact, much as I love steak, I must admit that the faerie dust industry is kinder on the faeries than the beef industry is on their cows.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.
