College Anxiety

Postby Yokou » Mon Aug 08, 2005 8:55 am

I start going to college on the 22nd and I'm really nervous. Luckily, it will be a Christian college, but I'm still scared of the work load. I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle it. Please pray that I won't be scared and that everything will be okay. Thank you.

Oo, I totally remember the feeling, but it passes and trust me, you'll probably settle in and feel comfortable before ya know it. And I've heard that the workload at Christian colleges is a tiny bit more manageable than it might be in other post-secondary paths. I'll definitely be praying for you, and try to remember that God is with you always, it helps me when I'm scared. Take care ^_^

Same here, even though I will be entering my fourth, and prayfully, last year  I'm always worried about getting too bogged down with work. It's really the only thing I loathe about college now. But I have also learned to put my trust in God throughout the years. Keep in prayer with God for His help and do what you can. Work diligently (and smart) but don't push yourself.

I had to learn to stop working at wee hours of the night/early morning and learn to rely on God to take care of what I couldn't get done. And I can testify right now that He helped me in situations that I didn't think I could get through.

There's nothing about school that's worth running yourself crazy or sick. And I've had a few times where I felt I was on the edge of either having a heart attack (seriously I was having mad chest pains) or losing my mind.

As far as the college being a Christian college, don't be surprised if you get there and people turn out to be unholy. I have a few friends that attend a so-called Christian college and the stories I've heard them tell says that students there act like any other students at any other college. The school I attend isn't officially recognized as a Christian school but we have Methodist connections (for lack of a better term) and a large percentage of the people here are just as worldly and freaky and whatever else you wanna say as any people I've ever seen.

Hopefully that didn't discourage you  Just don't be surprised if it's not like you thought. But with God's help and guidance you will do okay.

I'll pray for all of you. I graduated from college a year ago. College is a lot of work. It may seem overwhelming at first but it gets better. And near the end you might feel bogged down and as if you'll never finish all the work. Just pace yourself when you are in your last year. Remember to take breaks when you feel frustrated. And feel confident in your abilities. I wish you all luck. =)

The most imporant advice I can give is to dont procrastinate. It worked in highschool, but in college if you do, you'll probably feel overwhelmed- like I did. Like kazekami said, just pace yourself you should be good.

I remember my first week in college. I just didn't know what to expect. I was very anxious and nervous. So I can understand how you may feel. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be clear sailing.

I'll pray for you, that the school year is a good one and that you do well. Have faith in yourself and you'll do just fine :thumb:

Sadly.....
In my 4 years of collage I can't say procrastination doesn't work, in fact I've mastered it to a fine art form, I'm not proud of it mind you, but I've actually become more of a procrastinator, a good one too mind you, through collage thenI ever did from high school, go fig.

I DONT encourage it though, and yes, your first quarter is gonna be a whopper, mainly because things like schedule and teachers and so forth are already pre-set for you. It will get alot easier come round the third quarter though, you'll soon learn what instructors to avoid or try to get, build close relationships with those instructors, have the freedom to work your schedule around your own time and therefore keep a more managable work load, but your first quarter is also one of the more memorable times you get to develop close friendships with your new collage buddies. Don't think too much on it, just handle the work as it comes, try to keep the distraction level to a minimum and really get a feel for how things work and flow at your collage, then come the second and third time you'll be more at home. I will pray for you though, and yeah, caffine is now you very very very best friend

God bless,
Archan
