I know this isn't a book, but a comic book but I wasn't sure where else to put it.
Has anyone read this yet? It's going to be two five-part mini series' and after reading the first issue, it was very good (considering there was no "action" and the non-superhero drama of this first issue held my interest, I'd say it's looking up). It was quite well-written. I can't wait to read more. So...anyone read it?

I. Love. This. Graphic. Novel.
It's only 2 issues and I'm hooked. I feel bad for Tony though. And his mom.
EDIT: I also probably should add something that's been on my mind for some time now, viz: Manga/Anime fans disdain U.S. comics. This is of course ridiculous, because a lot of these same fans complain when non-anime fans look down on anime, if you catch my drift. U.S. comics inspired manga, which in turn inspired anime. Anime wouldn't even be here without Spider-Man or Captain America or the Uncanny X-Men, Aquaman, et all.
The difference between the two is simply one of culture; Manga and anime come from Japan and U.S. comics from--duh--the U.S. A lot of U.S. anime fans (and I'm going out on a limb here) know more about Japan than about the U.S. itself, or I should say, care more about Japan than the U.S. This isn't meant as a slap at anime fans, but this is a true fact. A lot of people on here could tell me in depth what bands are popular over there, what the public transportation system is like, what the candy tastes like, what fashions are popular, why they speak one way and then another, and so on so on. Anime fans are so saturated in Japanese society in custom that they have lost sight--somewhat--of other things.
When an anime fan is confronted with a good 'ol U.S. graphic novel, they don't quite know what to make of it. 'Here is something resembling a manga novel (it's backwards for some odd reason), but the characters don't act like they're Japanese. Where is the spikey hair? The sweatdrops? The ensemble of eternally youthful characters? These people act as if they were ordinary people, albeit with extraordinary powers. Odd.'
The point is not to run anime and manga fans into the ground, the point is to keep them from making the same mistake that other people have made to them.

Alas, time to reveal the comic nerd in me!
I tried getting into Ultimate Iron Man, but just couldn't hack it. I do like House of M Iron Man however...good ol' Pat Lee.
I'm still hooked on the Ultimates though, been hooked on that series since issue 1.
Also, I was getting into Ultimate Nightmare, which later turned into Ultimate Secret...and they stopped right after issue 2 of secret, GAH! Says I have to wait till November! GAAAHHHHHHH Comon, I'm dyin ta see what Ultimate Galactus will look like.

Nice to meet you, too, Archan. I've thought about getting House of M Iron Man and maybe Spider-Man, too. They look interesting. I'm intrigued by this Ultimate Nightmare book...I must look into this...

I haven't read any House of M, the Ultimate series are good enough for me. Ultimate Nightmare is really cool, but they haven't had anything new in a while.

Also, I highly recommend House of M. The basic storyline, as well as the spinoffs, are highly entertaining and turn the entire world of Marvel on its head. If you read it, also check out the book Avengers Disassembled which is a very, very major part in the creation of the New Avengers, as well as the main storyline for House of M.

Sadly, yes I subscribed to the school of thought Michael described (except, I wasn't THAT impressed with Japanese culture...I just thought comic books were all action and no story). However, slowly I'm being converted into liking them more and more. Ultimate Spiderman is my digest of choice right now, but there's a few others I'd be willing to read.
So, given that I know absolutely NOTHING about Iron-Man, what's his story?

Iron Man is a regular human by the name of Tony Stark who owns Stark Industries. In the Marvel Universe he was actually the Secretary of Defense. He's also Iron Man, a man in an a powerful mechanical suit who can uh..blow stuff up. I'm really new to Iron Man. >_> But basically, he's also a part of the Avengers and he rocks.

This is where I can flex my considerable Comic guru muscles.
The original Iron Man: Rich, alcoholic, divorced, and chronically ill Tony Stark creates a suit that will keep him alive (I think he does so under duress, some bad guys capture him or something.) He turns his life around and becomes Iron Man, a super hero. Iron Man is one of the more overlooked super heroes. Tony is just a man, nothing more. He created the suit for selfish reasons and wound up using it for good. Great guy. He was in the Avengers at some point.
The Ultimate Iron Man: Poor Tony Stark's mother was accidnetally exposed to a toxin while she was pregnant. This toxin made Tony's body into a giagantic brain, but Tony would be in constant agony. What with one thing or another, Tony's dad had to go into hiding (His ex-wife and her current husband were plotting against him, 'cause he's a rich multi-billionaire.) Tony's dad is able to use a gel on Tony to keep him from being in pain all the time. And that's kind of were we are in the story, it's really new.

In the original Iron Man; Tony Stark was taken POW in Vietnam and was forced to build weapons with all this new technology and stuff, he also has a bullet in his heart or close to it that was slowly moving and going to kill him, so he was built a kind of chest armour to stop/slow down the bullet.
And so while in Vietnam/ it might have even been China/ Korea, anyway he also secretly build his Iron Man suit in order to escape, which he did.
Now Iron Man is Tony Starks offical 'bodyguard', but he also flys around and kicks bad guys butt while being apart of the Avengers with Cap America and Thor etc.
I never got into him because Iron Man is just too powerful. You know what I mean, Spiderman and generally every other hero can be beaten and go down, have weakness's, but Iron Man just has all these rockets and can never really be killed in his suit of armour, he just blasts his way through everything.

Concerning the Ultimates, I dunno, the current issue, "Wolf in the fold" or something like that threw me off, but I musn't spoil.
Yeah, Nightmare is really good, Falcon is in it as well and his design was very nicely executed. Also, well, I dunno if I should spoil things for Kkun being he hasn't read it....but it's definately a good read. I didn't even give it a glance to be honest, there were Ultimate titles popping up left and right, so I just stuck with what I knew was good, "The Ultimates". Then I overheard someone talking about Nightmare and whammo, instantly hooked. It's really really good. I dare to say it's closely getting better then Ultiamtes, that is until they hit the breaks when they started Secret....GAH! BTW, the New Captain Mar-Vel design had me weeping, it's just so pretty, and hes the green version, I'm just sad they didn't give him the cool retro laser gun, but beggars can't be choosers.

Capt. Mahr Vel's design rocks. I thought it was funny how he kept talking back to Nick Fury. I can't wait for the next Nightmare, but it might be a long time coming.
Ult. Spiderman's been pretty good. Anyone read Ultimate Fantastic Four yet? It's been good so far.

Ultimate Spiderman is definitely my favorite currently running comic with Astonishing X-Men as a close second. But anyway, Ultimate Fantastic Four is great. Bendis is just a genius, seriously. He's doing a great job with it.

Oh yeah, the expression on Susan's face when Moleman told her he loved her always makes me crack up. Great series. The two before last were awful though, what the heck was up with the art? Minimalist?

Darn' tootin' Cap Mar-Vel rocks!
I luved the way they made his character, he's such a sarcastic it's great! He even told Nick the sacred words, "Baratta Klaatu Nikto"...had me rolln'.
UFF4: I tried to get into it, then I saw what they did to Doom, and I lost my taste in it all together. They made him this colossus type satyr thing, and that left a really bad taste in my mouth. Blegh!
However I liked how they tied in UFF4 into Ultimate secret...and how this takes place before Ultimates 2, being Thor is still an active member so at least there's some continuity with this book. Now if only they would finish the bloody thing, GAH!

I got Ultimate Iron Man #3 today. I can't wait to read it. I also picked up New Avengers #8, Astonishing X-Men #8 to fill out my collection, Ultimate Secret #1, and Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder issue 1 by Frank Miller and Jim Lee. So far, Batman & Robin is like.......amazing. I hate that it won't be another month until the next one.

I'm really interested in the new Batman and Robin series, if it's not too dark...I was a big batman: the animated adventures fan when I was a kid. ^^
Also interested in New Avengers, Astonishing X-men (not my fav, but I've heard it's good) and House of M. Spiderman, however, shall always be my favorite. Oddly enough, I'm arachnaphobic.
My love for comics is a very recent thing--Ultimate Spiderman was what really got me going, and ever since I've been eager to read anything I can mooch off of ^^;; I really appreciate the art, the story lines, and mostly...THE COLOR!

Anyone reading the new series "JUSTICE" by Alex Ross? Picked up the first issue with the Villan variant cover, very very nice, I'm hesitant to hype it up to be as good as "Kindom Come".
Also getting into the new series by J. Scott Campbell namely "Wildsiderz". I enjoy the sheer camp of it, it's a nice comic I can just lay back and enjoy without thinking too much into plot verses "JUSTICE" which already is turning out to be very sophisticated, hence why I like it as well. That and Ross, LUV this guys art.
Also picked up "Army Of Darkness", too funny. Ash is too funny, (Not you Ashley, there's another character named Ashley in this series, and he's a guy irronically ), and I luv the cover. It's Ash all dressed up in Elvis clothing, great stuff.
Can't wait till they start the "Army of Darkness vs. Reanimator" series.
The only "House of M" series I'm enjoying is Iron Man, namely because of Pat Lee, other then that I'm very picky with the titles I read.

The only "House of M" series I'm enjoying is Iron Man, namely because of Pat Lee, other then that I'm very picky with the titles I read.
