The persocons are coming!

First Gundams on e-bay, now andriods, eh?

It's so terribly appropriate that this was invented in Japan.

What's the purpose of that? o_O

So strange.

I thought the photo was only showing two of the creators of the robot. But one is the robot? ._.

Yes, the woman is the robot, and at the moment, as with so much of modern robotics, the "purpose" is only to push the AI and mechanics as far as you can make them go to accomplish a task generally elementary to us. For example, it turns out one of the interesting things in robotics is a pure-AI-self-controlled soccer tournament among small robots. In this case I believe, the feat is a fairly believable looking robot that can integrate a pretty realistic flesh substitute that it can do mechanical movements with it sucessfully, and that it reacts to the way it is touched and such. As to the whole persocom and android thing, I know of Chobits, but I don't know about what will become of human shaped robots. They are not exactly a very utiliatarian model without having the vast amount of programming to carry out the tasks humans can carry out, and if so perhaps cultural elements as well perhaps not quite as seen in other models, so AI programmers would have their work cut out for them. Even so, I have pondered the implications of humanoid 'bots, and I think they would be, like so many other technologies a full balance between the good and the bad.

But... the persocoms are already here (persocoms = "personal computer" in Japanese... not just in Chobits^^)

Ok seriously, they shouldn't be making these things... something about humanistic appearal on inanimate objects scares me (dolls from horror movies already scare me v_v) Besides... they've made tons of anime/movies/manga on this to show that it's not right (Animatrix has the creepiest results :/)

Notice though... people creating beings out of OUR own image... why should we try and attempt things that we can never fully accomplish? :/ Seriously, just leave it up to God why don't ya?

Bragging rights? \\o.o// Another explanation is that the Japanese need to preserve themselves somehow since their birthrate is below replenishment yet they just can't bring themselves to procreate (too expensive and all. Ironic, since childbearing has existed eons before currency and even the very concept of exchange).

Anyway, I find this more creepy than cool. This thing just has "Blade Runner" written all over it.

*Listens to PARANOIA Survivor MAX in honor of this post. I don't think the published paranoia of science fiction writers should inhibit the development of technology, merely to function as warning signposts along the way. Personally, I have yet to see anyone pose a danger of humanoid robots that is not also present in any robots or in AI in general, nor for that matter definitive knowledge that there will not be a fair balance of gains and losses from such technology. And also, as a general quirk of mine, I treat the ideas of nonfiction works with more respect than fiction works because fiction writers are able to stack any deck in their favor while nonfiction works must deal with reality and arguments based on real evidence on some level. Also, is it blasphemous that man, being made in the image of YHWH, should imitate YHWH's creativity? Are robots beings? If so does this mean that artificial intelligence is in fact real life in another form and that the local Ms. Pacman and Marvel vs. Capcom arcade machines are (or have) lifeforms, even if low level?

hmmm, I wonder if they could make a Kiyone andriod.

Kiyone: *smack her hand across the back of my head*

OWOWO! I was just thinking of it.

Kiyone: That is the problem, you think too much!

Anyway, this scary news. I just don't see a point in it, but oh well.

Chiiiii?

Just my luck.... I can picture it now.... *dreamland/flashback music plays*

Narrator: "After years of lonliness, Heed finally finds a girlfriend and things are looking very serious..."

Me: So, we have been going out for a while and I really love you, will you marry me?

My girlfriend: "I'm sorry, but that does not compute."

Me: "Huh? But I thought we had someting special."

My girlfriend: " *loading noises start* I'm sorry but there is something I havn't told you, I am a robot. Marriage does not compute."

Narrator: "So after years of waiting for a girlfriend, Micah gets one but does not find out that she is a robot until it is too late."

--------------------------------------------------------------

I just know that what jut happened above is gonna happen... I am going to ask every girl I meet from now on if she is a robot BEFORE I start dating her...
The Straight and Narrow

I chose to walk the straight and narrow road, but one day I lost balance and fell off it. I had fallen onto some sharp rocks and injured myself. There were people passing by who would merely stare at me, and then keep walking. Thoughts of worthlessness entered into my mind, and as I chose to believe the lies, my wounds grew worse. I was so overcome with grief that I nearly gave up... but then a man walked up to me and stopped. Without saying a word, he started to wrap my wounds, he gave me some water, and then lifted me up and embraced me. He then whispered these words into my ear, "I love you my child." As he said those words I could feel all the worthlessness and despair fall away. He then held out his hands. They had huge holes in them. He then said, "Walk with me." I then took his hand and we walked together. Every now and then I would fall from the road, but no matter where I fell, he was always there to pick me up and tell me that He loved me.

Yeah, sure, after they can effectively play AI guided RC car style soccer against each other well enough.
