This DOES seem interesting. Since the deadline is aaaaaaalllll the way in November, I'll bet I can come up with something. Then, I can spend much time trying to perfect drawing the simplest things....

Is the style part of the judging?
"I've learned when you throw mud at others, not only do you get your hands dirty, but you also lose a lot of ground." Ravi Zacharias
"Pride grows in the human heart like lard on a pig." Aleksander Solzhenitzen (so call me on it)
"Zeal without knowledge can lead to chaos." - Bob Rohm
"Why don't we love his truth as much as we seem to love his love?"- Cross Movement, in their song "Check us Out"

I haven't consulted Ashley about this, but I would guess that the story was absolutely the most important factor, rather than the art.

Ohh...I'm gonna enter, lol.

Now to only plan out a substory for the manga project I'm already working on, lol...Decisions, decisions.

Hmm....do you think a page restriction may help so that we don't have huge inconsistencies? It may get tricky to judge submissions ranging from a 5 page vs a 50 page short story based on content alone. Just a suggestion. ^^

*plots and plans*
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

[Pink Floyd fan listening to Queen and hugging trees which is also known as taking care of God's creation with a pair of headphones on listening to Nightwish as loud as possible while writing a novel on a computer in the middle of a field filled with Wolves.]

For now, Mave, Ink and I decided that we will make the necessary provisions if we feel it necessary. Due to time restraints, both of us feel it's highly unlikely we'll get any massive entries. ^^

Does it matter if people aren't your main characters? Or if humans don't appear at all during your manga? Also, um... style won't matter will it?

Yup, I'm doing the whole 20 questions thing; I hope you don't mind. :) I'm going to try and enter too. ^_^

I have a question...

4. No doujinshi will be accepted

Is it ok if we poke fun at shows? Like, I have an idea bubbling around... and it involves poking some fun at shows like Sailor Moon, Gundam series, etc. It's by no means centred around those shows, but I want to include it for fun XD Is that ok?

Does magic (as in the fantasy genre) count as unsuitable Christian material?

Depends on the usage. If it's a fantasy-style RPG type setting (like, say, Final Fantasy or Record of Lodoss War or Zelda), it's ok. Or if you had a warning against the occult, that would be ok. But if it's glorifying sorcery, then it would not be. If you still have questions, you're welcome to PM Inkhy or myself.

I am pretty new to Japanese culture and the like. Though I won't be entering this contest, I'm curious to know what the following words mean: hentai, yaoi, doujinshi. Can someone help me out? I've had people talk to me in Japanese on here and I have no idea what they are saying and I don't want to look stupid by asking them.

Doujinshi = fan art... eg, making a comic based on a show like Sailor Moon (with all the same characters and such)

hentai and yaoi... well, lets say they are sexual. Hentai is heterosexual and yaoi is homosexual (from my understanding)

Those are decent definitions. However, they I'll presume that Sheenar (welcome to our forums, by the way) has no context for the terms, so I'll elaborate a bit. A basic definition of hentai in English would be "pornography." Typically this is in anime or manga, though I don't know what the term for ordinary porn is in Japanese. Yaoi implies homosexual relationships are involved, though these are not necessarily hentai.

Ooo awesome! I want to try and participate in as many manga competitions as possible! ^_^
Now onto the questions!

1. Can our submissions be in Black and White? Or Color? Or both?

2. (elaborating on question 1) When judging these entries, is colored manga a big plus than black and white? or you guys aren't judging that kind of thing?

3. What are the criteria of the final judging? (ie: Does art quality have a bigger preference over storyline or vice versa, or do they have an equal weight in the judging process? etc.)

4. Can submissions be done on the computer? or does everything have to be done with traditional media? (ie: no digital coloring/lettering/etc.)

5. For the prizes (yes I'm curious XD) when you say "website of your choice" is it like retail websites like Amazon or Akadot or something?

Thanks in advance!

Sure! Whatever works best for you. :)

2. (elaborating on question 1) When judging these entries, is colored manga a big plus than black and white? or you guys aren't judging that kind of thing?

Color entries won't have a huge advantage over screentoned, no. Maybe a -slight- edge, but I severely doubt it.

3. What are the criteria of the final judging? (ie: Does art quality have a bigger preference over storyline or vice versa, or do they have an equal weight in the judging process? etc.)

Storyline is most important. Art comes second.

4. Can submissions be done on the computer? or does everything have to be done with traditional media? (ie: no digital coloring/lettering/etc.)

You can make the entry however you want, as long as it's manga-style. Whatever you're most comfortable with ^^ Photoshop or good old fashioned pen and paper are equally valid.

5. For the prizes (yes I'm curious XD) when you say "website of your choice" is it like retail websites like Amazon or Akadot or something?

Yup, that's what we were thinking of. :)

If you guys can show some severe interest (maybe like, have an outline for us by the end of the week), we'd be willing to extend it, I think. But we didn't get much turn out, so unless you guys are serious what's the point of even extending it?
