Samurai X

Can anybody tell me about this show, from what I've seen it looks really cool. But I want to know if there is anything bad in it. Is it based on Kenshin?

There exists, under the name of Samurai X, the Kenshin OAVs and the kenshin movie, the movie is directly relevant to the TV series, same art style etc.

The OAVs consist of Kenshin's backstory as well as a sort of Epilouge to the show... The art style and seriousness is completely different from the show, there's a lot more blood and everything doesn't end up happyhappy. In fact it's pretty much just tragedy and angst.

My opinion is that the OAVs are important for hard-core kenshin fans, particularyl who wanna know about kenshin's past, but if you'll be destroyed by the anime not being cheerful and goofy like the TV series, than you shouldn't watch it... It's definately aimed at a higher age than the TV series as well.

I might just have to rent this. I'm still not through the TV series, though, so I think I'll finish watching that first.

This one I'm going to see after Kenshin. I want to watch them all together, but I'll need to finish the TV series first so nothing is spoiled for me.

The only Samurai X that would really ruin it for you... (well if you are atleast up to episode 20 or so) is Samurai X: Reflections. Which gives us a story of whats up about 10 years after the last TV series episode.

Do the OAV's contain the material from the tv series, or is it a totally different series?

Are they (that is, the OAV's and the television series that airs on Cartoon Network) related in the same way as the two record of lodoss war series, or more like Dragonball, DBZ, and DB GT (i.e., a coherent, sequential story rather than a different rendering of the same story)?

Sorry...I'm confused.

There are several Samurai X DVD's.

Trust.
Betrayal.
The Motion Picture.
Reflections.

Trust and Betrayal take place a decade or so before the TV series. The Motion Picture takes place right after the TV series, and Reflections takes place roughly 15 years after.

It gets confusing, in Japan the Kenshin tv anime series is called Samurai X but in America its the name given to the OAV.

IMHO Trust and Betrayal is definetly worth watching, and if you want to see Reflections (albeit a downer) id recomend looking for "Seisouhen" which is its correct name.
