I suppose my parents are kind of indifferent. They don't know much about anime or manga, and I convinced them that many of the common stereotypes are incorrect. So, they let me watch it and don't have a whole lot of criticism. They usually trust me to decide what to watch. However, many times I have gotten into odd situations when my parents saw a section of an episode out of context. I guess they let me watch it but don't really like the fact that I am into the "anime thing". Their main concern is that I monitor carefully what my 12-year old sister watches, which I do.

my dad is pretty much indifferent, but will shake his head when he sees me reading manga or watching anime. my mom just gets on me about spending money. and they give me a bad time about watching/reading 'kids' stuff' but it's usually just teasing.

My parents REALLY didn't like it when I first got into manga, especially with stuff like Gundam that my mother deemed "too violent".

Nowadays my dad sits down and watches stuff with me. My mom still thinks it's "evil", but she really doesn't try to stop me anymore. ^^;

My dad thinks im a total loser/geek. I'm not much like him, but we still get along great. My parents never restrict me from anything because I've earned their trust, but if they had their way I wouldn't be an anime fan.

My mom and dad don't approve. I went to University not even really knowing I watched a few anime, and came back reading manga and watching tons of anime. My dad thinks its trash. And my mom seems to think its all weird, or violent, or has a lot of sex in it. No matter what I do they seem to disapprove. I had to trick my mom into watching Vampire Hunter D. My mom likes Vampire movies. Which my dad also tinks is trash. She begrudingly told me she liked it. But she still thought it was weird. I can't get her to watch anything else.

My mom went on line once and found a Sailor Moon hentai site and is convinced that this is what I watch. So I'd say they don't understand and don't approve. She emailed me demanding to know why I was exposing my younger siblings to the filth

I'm an adult and can watch what I want, but I have never messed around with that junk, and it hurts to be accused of watching it.

My parents trust my judgement in what I watch, so even if they don't understand some of the anime I watch (and sometimes I don't always understand it either... ) they don't mind me watching. They've even been known to get a good chuckle out of watching Hamtaro with me. ^_^ (Mom's more willing to put up with it than Dad is, though. )

Mom and Dad are of the "we have no idea what it is, but we don't mind" persuasion. I'm an adult with (until a few weeks ago) a steady job, so my income and my free time were free for me to spend however I like.

However, that's mostly because I was a very clean kid in high school, aware of my brother and sister watching behind me, and I made an effort to let my parents in on it. I explained to them my "movie rating" theory on anime, and explained anything they found objectionable. So on the whole, they don't mind that I have spent several hundred dollars on my little hobby. ^^;; They trust me implicitly, and I have never betrayed that trust.

Technically, my parents were into anime before I was. In fact, my father still watches anime. Being a funny Korean family...

They understand it completely, and approve of it completely, minus the occassional remark of "you STILL watching anime?".

When I first got into anime, my mum was not too happy about it. Which is fair enough, because I got far too obsessed with it and had well over 3000 pictures on the computer of anime. Mum confronted me about this (this was when I was around 15 or 16) and I was made aware of how much it was controlling my life, so I gave away my series and deleted most (if not all... I cant remember) of the pictures from my computer.

Since that time, I have gotten back into it but now I am extremely careful of what I watch and limit myself to 100 pictures of anime. Now, I barely watch any but I still love anime and manga because of the art style XD I'm not entirely sure what mum thinks of it now (cept that she doesn't like "the eyes" ), but she doesn't get on my back about it or anything. She even likes my drawings and sketches, and encourages me with them.

Well, mine don't really disaprove, but they find it annoying. But then they think all anime is like Pokemon...

My dad thinks its weird and soly for people U 13. They both worry about the content because of all the sterotypes they here, but i have earned their trust because as they have noticed, i will actually beg them not to make me go watch a movie for "family time" if i worry about whats in it. I have actually done that only once or twice but after the first time they greatly relaxed their worries. They still worry, but when they found i had a friend who already knew more about manga than me and was teaching me how to avoid the stuff they would not like they completely left it up to me.

I just wish i could get them into some of the hobbies i'm into. They dont like me playing video games that much either, but again they trust me to avoid the stuff they dissaprove. They just believe its all a waste of time and kid stuff and shake their heads about it a lot, but they like that it got me into drawing and actually support me to keep practicing the style. Its really confusing. One day they worry about it, the next they are supporting it if just for the art. Its weird.

My parents let me watch anime, but they dont understand what it is or anything. They think it's all for kids and there are even people who when you show them a hentai manga they'll say "Oh the japanese show that to their kids?" I tried to show them Noir to get them into anime but that didnt work. Oh well.

My parents understand it and approve.

Heck, my dad likes Gundam and my mom loves FMA and few other light harded shows.

They even like to go to the anime con, just to see people in costumes.

My parents seem to have mixed feelings about anime. Most of the anime I watch is mecha and is fairly clean, save for some profanity. my mom has sat down and watched some of my anime with me, because she wanted to make sure it wasn't trash, not because she was interested. One time my mom sat down with me and started watching macross 2, the movie with me. Now that she has seen some of my anime, she trusts my judgement and she's pretty cool with it. Whenever I buy an anime she's just like, "is that one of your robot shows?". My dad, however is somewhat different about it. For the most part, he's pretty cool about it. he seems to think anime is a stupid waste of time, but aside from that, he, like my mom, trusts my judgement. I like to draw anime just as much as I like to watch it, and I have have great, loving parents who support me and compliment my artwork. Sometimes I get the idea that they would prefer to have me drawing something else, but aside from that, they're all good about it. Heck, one time my dad even got me a "How to Draw Manga" book!

Dad's response: "That's those cartoons with the big eyes, right?"

 that's so amusing..

hmm...my Dad probably has no idea what I read/watch/etc. I kinda wish he cared more, lol...

Mom doesn't censor me much b/c I'm too stubborn and willful  but after I got my younger bro into the stuff(even though he's 17) she got kinda worried for awhile. I THINK we have her worries calmed..but i'm not too sure.

Brother has this crazy idea that he can CONVERT the parents(methinks he hath too much ambition) and had Mom watch a couple Miyazaki movies. She liked Castle in the Sky, but apparently she made a couple comments about 'hinting at porn' or something like that in regards to Nausicaa. For goodness sake..the girl's skirt was just short!!!! AGH. :bang:
But yeah..that's why I dont attempt conversions and just do my own thing. I tried that with music a couple years ago and got nothing but stress(not to say it's not worth it to try sometimes....i'm just not a patient sort. lol).

So yeah...we buy manga occasionally and get DVDs on rare chance we can afford 'em. I keep careful watch over what my brother's getting into(for my own peace of mind...i'm probably over-protective. :P) and I do my own thing. It works. ^_^

Reminds me of the time Mom let a family friend of ours walk through my room (you know, the one covered in posters) and stopped on a Tanemura one. Her commentary: "Ashley's into this thing called anime. It's these Japanese cartoons with big eyes."

My dad doesn't really give a st*ff, and I don't think my mom even knows. : )

I got my dad to watch Cowboy Bebop the Movie with me once, but he hasn't gone near any anime since then.

I'll never get over the time my dad, in an attempt to understand my new hobby, looked up the word "anime" in the dictionary. Our dictionary was over 30 years old, so he came out of it thinking anime was a kind of French wood carving.

Man, I hope I can still make it to the woodcarving convention next month.
