Pray for Alice, too

Postby Alice » Fri Jul 22, 2005 2:32 pm

Compared to other requests, mine may seem paultry, since it's not an immediate need, but I'd still like to ask prayer for myself.

My prayer request is about exhaustion. My health is much better than it was. But I still deal with a level of exhaustion that makes holding down a "real" job unlikely at best.

Although I've been told it's unlikely, I wonder if I might have hyperthyroidism. (My grandmother had it since she was a rather young woman.) I was tested for it about 5 years ago, and was apparently fine. But the guidelines have recently become more stringent; I might be "borderline," and have it enough to be affected. But I don't have health insurance, and it's going to be expensive to find out, either way.

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that my parents are willing to support me, and I'm glad to have this time to work on my wirting. But lately I've been feeling trapped. I want to be well. I want to have the energy to hold down a real job, and to get a driver's license.

Right now I can't support myself with just writing. Especially now, when I'm dealing with something that seems rather like writer's block. So, please pray for me about this. Thanks.

Aww, although it might not seem like it to you, your concerns and problems are just as important as any others, especially in God's eyes. I can kinda relate to the trapped feeling, it's definitely not fun. And the joys of loving something that can't really lead to career, though in my case it's art, rather than writing. I can see how writing might be even tougher to find work with, although it is possible.

I really hope that you'll start to feel better soon and that you'll be able to find the right medical help. And I'll be praying for energy, and that God will guide you to independence when it's the right time. And I hope that the trapped feeling will fade, and that you'll be able to find peace regardless of your current situation (tough as it can be). Take care ^_^

I can understand those feelings. I'll pray for you. You are lucky as i am that we both have parents willing to support us. There are many who wouldn't do that. I hope you feel better soon. It's hard when you have no energy.

No prayer request is too small. I figure, if you're willing to request, that means that you have the faith to believe in prayer, and that's an awesome thing. I'll pray that you gain strength and are comforted in your current situation. I pray that the Lord meets you where you're at and blesses your socks off.

Will do if I can remember. Memory's being believed for. God bless you, and He loves you.

Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism? Hypothyroidism would be more consistent with fatigue. You might also observe heavy periods, weight gain, cold intolerance, loss of hair (especially eyebrows "Queen Anne's sign"), and diminished reflexes. A TSH would be an easy way to tell for sure, and it's easy to fix (thyroid hormone, though life long).

Hyperthyroidism is a bigger, more complex beast, and usually manifests as racing pulse, jitteryness, heat intolerance, hyperactive reflexes, (sometimes) weight loss, metrorrhagia or amenorrhea, and proptosis ("bulging eyes"). It requires a more significant workup to rule out thyroid malignancy. Again, a TSH would be the first step.

Which one do you think squares more with you?

I have Hypothyroidism myself. They found out when I was in 7th grade and before hand I was always exhausted and didn't have any energy. I'm just lucky the medicine are very cheap now. But perhaps you may have just that, because I know it's more common in women to have hypothyroidism.
Perhaps worth a check. I don't have health insurance either so I can relate to your situation- can be quite costly. Though to get blood work just to check hyper or hypo, it shouldn't be too expensive.

Anyways, I'll be praying for you. Give it some time and I know everything will fall into place. I hope you start feeling better soon.
Take care :)

Okay, HypOthyroidism.

Neither weight gain nor weight loss (that's noticeable). Sensitivity to cold. Also heat. (But more so cold, I think. It's kind of a joke around the house that I need to take a "parka" with me to my brother's room if I go up there to watch TV with him because it's colder up there. I don't actually take a coat up, but I often take up a hat and an extra shirt. This is pretty much year round except for summer. Even in summer, sometimes I get chilly driving in the car, etc.)

I may or may not have hair loss, because I do "shed" hair in the comb or brush every time I use them, and often when I take a shower. (But that's normal, isn't it? I'm not going bald or anything.) The eyebrow thing is complex because I pluck them when I'm stressed. I know, bad habit...

Some symptoms I have which may or may not be indications: some depression, forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating sometimes.

I want it to be something like this, that has an actual diagnosis. Hopefully I'm not just grasping at straws.

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers.... : )

Okay, I have a doctor's appointment next Wednesday.

So I need to get my knowledge gathered so I'll know what she's talking about, and I'll be able to tell her what I mean.
