Why Don't They Stock Sizes Appropriately?

Postby Alice » Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:07 pm

Okay, I want to know why stores don't stock clothing and shoes in a more appropriate manner.

When I go shopping for shoes or clothes, why is it that there are always plenty of size single digit sizes, but the higher end jeans and shorts tend to be nearly gone? :(

I'm not even talking about the plus sizes! Why don't the managers order more of the sizes that are obviously selling the fastest, and fewer of the ultra-skinny jeans they're probably going to have to mark down just to get rid of? (Or send back, maybe.)

And what about shoes? When I go shoe shopping, why are there always so many small-sized women's shoes, but when I get to my size (which is, ahem, on the higher end of the women's spectrum), there are fewer shoes and less selection?

Don't they know not all women have tiny feet? :stressed:

If one doesn't know better, one can go away from shopping feeling like a failure because you're not size 2 in jeans and size 6 in shoes. Grr.

...Okay I'm done now. ^^ Does anyone else have trouble with finding the right size stuff sometimes? I've heard it happens to people who are on the smaller end too, although I've not experienced this myself. :(

EDIT: Uh, pretend you know what I meant with the poll options. It was late, I was tired.... :red: The middle two options are for those who find sizes mostly stocked which are too big or too small. The fourth option is for people who are feeling contrary or have some other choice.

I've never gone shopping for women's clothing, (*whew* *sighs of relief* *I was worried* -Hey, quiet in the peanut gallery!-) but I, being 195cm tall, have difficulty finding pants long enough at many clothing stores. Oh, I can get the length I want at places like the Men's Wearhouse, but I end up just getting most of my clothing online.

x.x Everytime I go shopping, it seems that the only size they are missing is mine! They have plenty of larger and smaller clothes, but nothing in the middle.

I wear a 32/34, which is pretty common, so they usually have it in. But I wear a wierd shoe size 11.5 so that's a bit harder to deal with.

It's almost impossible for me to find clothes that fit. Wonder why I'm good at sewing? Because I'm so small that petite sized jeans are too big for me, and my torso is a bit longer in proportion to my legs, so it's hard to find shirts that don't drown me and don't show my stomach. ^^; It's hard for me to find nice 5 1/2 size women's shoes, too.

Because stores don't know how to cater to attractive women. They can only carry clothes for those girls who look like they need to eat about a thousand sandwiches. ;)

EDIT: Okay, being serious, I know how hard it is to buy shoes...I wear a size 13. Yeah. Jeans are also a pain. Seems they only know how to stock jeans for insanely tall skinny guys or short fat guys. Seriously. Who the crap wears 40/32?! I wear a 36/34, which is WAY harder to find than it should be.

Hmm, I see 36/34 a lot more often than 32/36.

I empathize, Kae, because I also wear size 13 shoes. However, I just wear plain black ones, and most of the time these are in stock. (I'm not ashamed to shop at Payless.)

Fortunately, for pants and shirts, I wear a men's Large and 34/34 (approx), so it's not so bad.

I always have a hard time finding pants that fit. Shirts are never a problem (always plenty of men's larges), but jeans shopping is a nightmare.

If I were to wear the size pants that actually fit my waist I would wear a 29 or 30; however those are impossible to find in stores. It seems like all I see are 34's, 36's, and above. I curse the fattening of America  .

If I want the appropriate length, I would go with a 33 or 34. This only complicates things.

Usually what I have to do is buy the 32 waist (much more common than the the smaller sizes) and wear a belt, which gets annoying after a while.

Based on your troubles with women's clothing, Alice, it would seem that men have the opposite problem. Not enough small sizes, and way too much big stuff. Strange, no?

Edit: I wear size 11.5 or 12 shoes, depending on the brand and style.

Why not get some woven belts? Then you can always adjust them to exactly the size that you need. The only downside is that they have a tendency to come apart if you wear them too much.

Its not much better on this end --- try finding 30" inseam jeans. Total nightmare for me.

I'm a 2X, myself. More stores are beginning to sell larger sizes - finally acknowledging that there are big folks who want to wear clothes, too. Still, I'd like to get down into the 1X range. It would be easy to shop for clothes then.

<_<' Erm...I'm one of those people with insanely small feet. 6 1/2 shoe size ^^;;

With clothing, however, I can completely relate. I think it's just a luck thing, really. I always manage to get to the store right when they run out of my size of clothes, so I generally wind up with something that's too big.

Personally I think the stores don't stock enough clothing for short people. I wear a 3 junior, but when ever I buy the pants I have to roll them up half way up my shin! Everything is sooooo long on me that some capris look like pants. The stores need to start selling "short" sizes....for people who are shorter than 5 foot thanks!

My small feet have turned into conversation pieces recently. >>; I commented that size 11 shoes sound big in a department store once, and the sales guy there asked me how big my feet were. He thought I was mistaken when I said 5 1/2. ^^;;;;

I chose option 4, because....they always have all the bigger and smaller sizes, but never quite my exact size. I have a weird shape anyway...Old Navy jeans are the only ones that ever fit me right.

Slightly off-topic here, but there's also the deal of so many girl's shirts being so freaking thin! I've ranted to my guy friend before about how hard it is to find clothes I don't have to layer just for the sake of modesty. He mostly just looked at me and nodded like this.

I'm about 5'8"-5'10". I wear a size 16 pant/skirt and a XL-2X shirt depending on the cut and brand. (If it weren't for all the junk in my trunk, I could probably wear a 14...T_T) So, I have a pretty hard time finding clothes that aren't completely ugly or too big. It's like there's never anything in the middle-- only the two extremes of huge and tiny.

Same thing with shoes. I'm a size 10 and they hardly ever have ANYTHING cute. Or the cute 10 shoes are too narrow, and 11s are too long. GRR!

Also, I've noticed that most cutesy shirts made for teenage girls are freaking TIGHT! It drives me insane! I have a chest, you know @_@;;; I guess I just can't buy clothes in the juniors section anymore...>_o

Yeah, I have the same problem with pants. I can always find the right right waist, but the length is always a gamble. Some brands a 32 lenght is good, others a 34 is perfect. But no matter what store I goto, they never had right length for me. Just find me a 33!

Shoe on the otherhand I tend to find easily. I wear a size 14 and I always seem to get a pair. Anyways, I hate clothing stores for that one reason, they never have my size. Either way to big, or way to small.

Yes, I get small trouble when I go looking for shoes. Well, not really, since I don't buy shoes often, and when I do I go to one of those extremely large warehouses. I think my shoe size is like, 32cm or something.

As for clothes, no complaints either. If my neck can fit through, I can wear it.

For me personally I find they stock clothes sizes too big. I'm a small person. One time I shrieked in a store, "Who else besides ME can buy these clothes! I haven't seen a single skinny person in here!!"

*skinny Asian gals walk by*

Me: *sweatdrops*

I don't have that problem with shoes, however.

Yeah, layering is "in" now. I think it's a cheap trick to get you to pay twice as much for what amounts for one shirt.

I don't mind the look but I don't do it myself because, like you said, you can't wear the shirts separately. So annoying!!
