"you cant be gothic and christian"

Talk about anything in here.

Goth/Gothic may not be a formal religion, but it is associated with a depressing Edgar Allan Poe type doom and gloom Philosophy/Mindset.

oops. Meant to delete that part. Cross synapse firing.

anyways, I find from experiance that the vast majority of those who call themselves "True Goths" who I've met think that Christianity is based on a fairy-tale, at best. For this reason, I consider these goths to be following paganism, kinda in their own "denomination," I guess one could say.

A cult a few years back all drank kool-aid, wore tennis shoes...then killed themselves. Should we stop drinking Kool-aid and wearing Tennis shoes based on the actions of others?

uh...
Those people were also blatently following a non-Christian religion...

I think that we should avoid the bad religion and not necesarrily the things that such people did/wore.

(Do you and Rose make a habbit out of double teaming threads?) My point is, because an "evil" group does somthing....does that mean as Christians we cannot do it? You missed my entire point...how I am not sure. Read my post again.

I would not say I was sarcastic at all. My point is, because one group of nuts do somthing....that does not mean we should change our fashion style.

I already said clearly in my first post that goth style isn't bad.
My point was that the pastor had the right to say whether or not it was acceptable in his church.

as for Rose and I, I hotlinked her to the thread, so she decided to reply. She's my gf, I wouldn't be one to find it too odd that she backs me up.

Christian goths are children of God. Pure and simple. Your outward appearance does not matter. If you believe and have accepted God, you are his child no matter what. No Christian has the right to judge a fellow believer for the way they choose to look. God doesn't look at the outward appearance. He looks at the heart. It says so in his word. And God does not lie. And honestly, judging in this sense, is no different than blatant racism. Period.

I agree with Azier about judging (by clothing) whether or not someone is saved.

No, the point was you were incorect in labling the term goth a religion. It would be no different then saying everyone who wears a suit and tie is a Christian. What you wear does not save or condemn you. If someone walks around depressed all the time, then yes...I would say perhaps being gothic is harming there spiritual walk...but as far as wearing Gothic fashion...its foolish to lable them as having a faith in it. Then again, having first hand knowledge on an issue helps.

See Bible passage AGAIN ...

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

Smoking is Bad for your health, but it's not specifically a sin. Does that mean all Smokers go to hell? No. Does that mean 100% of all Christians don't smoke? No. Is it beneficial or glorifying to God?

I know it's bad for your health, and can be a Stumbling Block to the Unsaved and set a bad example.

Does wearing Gothic clothing make you unsaved? No.

Can it be a stumbling block for others? Yes.

Read my initial Post - This goes beyond black lipstick or Hair. This is about how we purport ourselves which is not to be the same way as the unsaved world.

If Christian Divorce rates are high as Unsaved, if Smoking, drinking, swearing, clothing, tastes, philosophies, are all simmilar or alike, if there is no standard by which to measure things, then there is Nothing that makes us Stand Out...

Being a Christian means we might be persecuted, but we shouldn't look for it.

A Goth Barbie doll in the "Pink Isle" would certainly stand out, you'd expect that.

You could also get attention by yelling "FIRE" in a public Place (which is against the laww for insighting panic), You'd surely get attention, but not the kind you want.

All I'm saying is CONSIDER these things. Not for the sake of People, but the Sake of God.

I've seen plenty of Wiccans at a nearby New Ageish store that don't look any different than a "normal" person.

and I already stated that I was talking from experiance only... Not like I've studied all the ways of the goths in detail as I have for groups such as, say, Mormons...

maybe it isn't a religion. I don't know, I've never been one. I just said that most people who I've encountered who call themselves "goths" hate Christians and everything we stand for.

Sonicrose your sarcasm in hurling scriptures is very becoming. It always helps brings others to God when you beat the snot out of them with a Bible. And if you and Frwl can't come up with a good responce as a team, try finding some family members who will repeat what you have said over and over. Seriously guys *shakes head* Simply because you don't understand it, don't twist scripture to defend it. If you don't like gothic style, don't wear it...but don't run around acting like its sinning to wear it. Your acting like a child. I am done here. I posted my 2 cents, and rather then even try to understand what I was saying...my posts were ignored and looked over because you lacked a good responce for them. I probably should have locked this thread when I saw it...but I had hoped for once a discussion might be fruitful. Foolish me.

Sometimes gothism is a way of appearance meant out of rebellion. But for others, including Christian goths, it's fashion.

So I hurl scripture - from the Bible - how we Know Jesus - His Word - and all you do is sling personal slander back at Nick and I? "because we can't come up with a good response" that is to your liking?

Now I'm being sarcastic - Thank you so much for completely ignoring what we said.

Niether of us are condemning anyone for their clothes or saying it's Sinful. I was simply pointing out - in my original post - that How you dress is TYPICALLY related to How you Think. Ever heard of a "Fashion Statement"?

Thank you, for clearly being on top of what is being written in this thread....and for showing such a lovely Christ like attitude. Have a nice evening. This thread can now be locked...and you can be angry, and claim I am bashing you or whatever. I made a single mistake tonight....and that was allowing this thread to remain open.
