Well when i try to play cds on my laptop using windows media player (by the way my laptop is a windows 98) it says some error but when i play the cd with the regular cd player that i have it works. It might have something to do with when my i was trying to delete something and accidentaly deleted the whole windows program and had to use the original start up disc to get my computer to work but after that my windows media player wouldn't work at all. If anyone can help i would love for you to share what you know.....thanks to everyone that helps. :?:

Let's back up. What error are you getting?

Try winamp (http://www.winamp.com). I'm willing to bet that this will fix all problems. It ran on my Win95, 32 MB RAM, 200 MHz computer pretty well, so I can guarentee that it will work on your computer. It is free, and a whole lot better than WMP. If it doesn't read your disks and play them well, my bet is on your CD Drive having a major error.
