Your User Name - Why?

Postby Haibane Shadsie » Thu Nov 13, 2003 5:41 pm

This is like the User Titles topic. This is about your user name... what are your reasons behind having it?

Mine... First of all, I'll explain "Shadsie". My first online handle was "Shadowcat"... a name I chose when I registered with a fanfiction writing site. I needed a name, and I looked to my cat, named Shadow, and thought "Hey, Shadowcat." I saw a few other "Shadowcats" online, so I decided to change my handle to "Lady Shadowcat", which I still use on the fanfiction network and is still my global name on ezboard. (I was "PersianoftheShadows" breifly as a local account on a Pokemon/Team Rocket board). Online friends gave me lots of nicknames, like "Shades", "Shads" and "Shadsie". Now, online, I usually go by Shadsie. I like it the best of the names, and it eliminates confusion with a certain X-Men character I had no idea existed until after I had been using my Shadowcat handle for a long time. From what I've read about her and from my viewing of her incarnation of "X-Men: Evolution", I don't like that character. I find her personality annoying.

Secondly... um... it should be self-explanitory for anyone familiar with the anime title. I love Haibane Renmei. Thus far, I've only seen the first four episodes, but so what? I fell in love with it and am already obessessed. I know, that after I see the entire series, that I will be massively obsessed, possibly even getting into doing fanfics and fanart, much like I've been doing for Trigun for the last two years. I need a new obession and have decided, since I fell in love with it so fast, that Haibane Renemei shall be it! If only I can see the rest of the series... then I will let my obession blossom to full-flower.

The Haibane are the angelic-like people in the series... so.. "Haibane Shadsie".. me with my nickname online handle... as a Haibane.

:) Mine is MillyFan because Milly is my favorite character in Trigun, which is my favorite anime.

(It is NOT because I allegedly remind people of her sometimes. I hope I'm not that stupid! -^.^-)

Also, it's an original username which I can consistently use without having to worry about someone using it already. -^.^- I mean, pretty much all variants of Wolfwood and Legato (my favorite bishounen from the series) are already in use on many sites. -^.^-

Why? Why not? I decided to sign-up with my user name because it's what some of my friends thought up of and my dad but both are seperate events. It's just a twisted variant of Andrew. Andyroo was also alot better than the names I had in mind that were either seemingly too dark or too silly. That's pretty much the summed up version of the story, I think. That's probably just all there really is though.

Mine is contrived Japanese, literally, "future person," although I was informed 'shoorai' can also mean specifically a bright or hopeful future: 'shoorai ga aru' => 'A bright future is ahead' (loosely) ... which is why I chose it over something like 'mirai' which can also be translated as "future" in concept.

For a while I ran around with the online pen name of Riana (for fics and stuff), but then I got a guilt trip, really. I felt like I was living a double life, and that online, it was much easier for me to dabble into darker things and not have anyone know it was me. As silly as it sounds, keeping my real name online keeps me accountable. So I'm Ashley, or Ash, because that's what I am in real life too. Besides, if anyone at school ever found out about CAA, I wanted them to know who I was.

I was playing Dynasty Warriors 4 at the time, and Sangoku means "Three Kingdoms" in Japanese, the time period the game was based off of in ancient China. Or you could say I named myself after the main character in DBZ, which ever works.

My user name? Do you really wish to know my story? A story filled with intrigue, romance, angst, and the ever incospicuous double life (spy- kind, of course  )? Well it all started on the alcohol drenched alleys of Beale Street with the everpresent sounds of the blues filling the air in all directions...

... if you want a story like that... go somewhere else.

Actually I got my name from a fantasy book I had read. The name of the book and the author escapes me right now, but I do remember the character. He was a powerful knight and with one stroke would lop off heads as one would flies with his Lochaber Axe. Yet this knight was not a bloodthirsty cretin, he was honorable, courageous... uhhh... and other things that make women swoon over certain men. I think I will go onto another reason.

The second reason is because the weapon is cool. It doesn't have the utter coolness though of a broad sword or katana but it has its own virtues. It belongs in the family of pole cleaver, that pretty much says how cool it is (I've used cool four times already :shady: ).

Well this are some of the reasons for my name, and if you want the complete story about it... hopefully someone knows how to write a good biography.

I had an email handle "kurai hikari", which is supposed to mean "dark light" (I could be wrong..). When I was making a screen name for AIM a couple of years ago, I said, "hmm, what about shiroi hikari ("white light")?" Been ShiroiHikari ever since :P

"Technomancer" sounded kind of cool. Since I'm also an electrical engineer and have been engaged in signal processing research it seemed appropriate. But I don't like techno music (am listening to some Verdi at the moment)
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

About the double-personality thing...

It doesn't happen with me. I am online like I am in real life... Sometimes goofy, sometimes angsty, and generally weird. I think I'm pretty honest. What you see with me is what you get. I'm weird, and you'd better like it! Or get used to it... or just avoid me...whatever.

We-e-ll, I've had -alot- of online names. And I would waste alot of CAA's bandwidth to list them all. O.x;;; So, I'll stick with how my current one came to be. Basically, most places I go by either =Ame-chan= or =CobaltMarineAngemon=. No, Ame is not my real name. ^^;;; It means "Rain" in Japanese. And I love the rain. My real name is a really weird spelling of "Katie" (<----not spelled like that and don't spell it that way or else! Or with a "Y" for that matter! XD) and that's all you need to know.
"Cobalt" came to pass because in 7th grade English we were learning the colors (freaked out yet?) and I discovered a shade of blue called "Cobalt". I feel in love with the name. But I also thought it sounded famliar. So, in science, a day or so later, I was boredly looking over the periodic table, when I saw, to my amazment (I'm trying to add a little sepense here.), ELEMENT #27! (Look it up ^_^)
It seemed cool enough - an element and a shade of blue. And I have no clue why I didn't just stick to plain ol' Cobalt-chan. But, you know 7th graders. -.-;;
I was really into digimon tamers at the time. (I mean -REALLY- into digimon tamers), so named myself after the kawaiist digimon of all: MarineAngemon. *glomps him*
The reason I'm CobaltAngel here is cuz "CobaltMarineAngemon" won't fit. XD
And for those of you reading Tybonia, for a while I went by "Ponta". But that was before I had any of the story written. It was all just crazy ideas in my head...

Well I am 99% sure I explained this somewhere else but why not do it again?

Ok I really like the name Merlin. Especially in junior high I read all sorts of stories about him and Arthur. But I didn't want to use it as my name for two reasons
1.) it is obviously a boy name
2.) it carries lots of baggage with it

So I decided to make a girl version of it just for me! I got the "Mer" sound by using the word "Myrrh" from the bible (one of the gifts the wise men brought to baby Jesus), and I got the "lin" sound by using the girl name "Lynn" (and for those of you who are curious no that is not my real, it isn't even my middle name). So I put them together and I got Myrrhlynn. :thumb:

So I am the one and original MyrrhLynn. If you see somone else with the name they either have a brain that thinks unbelievably close to mine, or they stole it. :shady:

And now I must ask the question... as you can see from the above explanation my name is suppose to be pronounced like "Merlin". How many of you thought that was what it was suppose to be like? ;)

I have been known on other message boards as Azier or Azier Hedgehog. Azier is a reverse version of Frieza, without the F, and the I and E reversed. Yeah, it was made back when I was a DBZ fan. And, I don't care for DBZ anymore, and I do not think of my alternate username as having anything to do with Frieza from DBZ. The 'Hedgehog' part is because Sonic is my favorite video game series.

I wanted to come up with a name nobody would use. So...

Link= Link is my favorite video game character and it's the "nickname" I use in most games I play. Also, I guess, my personality fits him too; Impulsive, but occasionally quite, nomadic, willing to help, the loner... Oh yeah, I have blonde hair.
Antilles: One of my favorite Star Wars characters is Wedge Antilles.

Hence, the Link Antilles

Mine is just derived from my last name. Part of it is actually my nick name in real life. My old screen name was actually borrowed from a realy powerful player character in an MMORPG I used to play, which was Sekiri. Then one day I was using a Kanji dictionary and then totally by accident found out that Sekiri meant dysentry. Which is why the switch to Kagan.

Satanist! j/k ^_~ Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyhow, My name, Orange Kitten, I just use because my video company name is Orange Kitten Productions. http://www.orangekitten.com
It's nothing official, I don't have a business license, I just use the name so people have something to know me by. I make wedding videos, music videos, commercials, anime music videos, etc. Everything on my website is mostly stuff I've done for fun. I don't think it's fair to put something as personal as a wedding vid on the site ^_~ plus the file size would be enormous.

My username "White Dragon" came when I wanted to have a screename that symbolizes me. "White" represents being a Christian, and to me, dragons symbolize great might (like how some people see lions, bulls, bulldogs, etc). So putting the two together it's a screename that states "A Christian with strength in his/her faith"

And that screen name inspired the title of my site...

ironically, three weeks later, I find that Anne McCaffrey wrote a book called "The White Dragon"..... :o weird...

my username?
well I really wanted to put in evil ninja, coz thats my email address' name. but when I first saw caa I thought "hey, I couldn't use the word evil in a christian website can't I?" so I thought up of something possitive to attach with the ninja.
so I thought about tenchu, my most favorite game.
at the end of each level theres a ranking screen, it says master ninja, grand master ninja, etc.
so I thought hey they got too much rank names for ninjas doesn't it? so I decided to mock the game by my name... supa dupa NINJA!

woo! that went pretty long!

I got the name 'old philosopher' from some kid at some point in the past. Likely when I was studying to be a kid's paster. It seemed appropriate, so I kept it. Now I've got about 6 or 7 people that I've 'counciled' over the years in my AIM buddy list, and we still keep in contact even now.

As for previous names, I used to go by 'Carbon Ocelot' which is an RPG character I ran for almost 10 years (decker in SR, for those interested). He eventually graduated to NPC because he was just to powerful to play. So I took over GMing and used him as a potential contact. It's way more fun when characters you have interacted with in the past show up and give you hints about how to get past securty at xyz corporation. Anyway, since he became this 'over-the-net personality' it was nearly sub-concious that I chose him as my first online personality.

Interesting, interesting...

That "keeper of the secret of immortality" thing I really like. When you think about it, as a Christian, you are! We have eternal life in Jesus Christ, our Lord - that is the secret of spiritual immortality!

And, Saint Peter/Cephas... I smile whenever I see your name because I think of Saint Peter. He was such a cool Diciple... knucklehead, but forgiven for his mistakes.

White Dragon... yeah, a creature of strength... I have that thing about lions and gryphons... I really like them, and think of them as symbols of strength - I'm not as much into dragons, but I do like them. Cool avatar!

My "Shadowcat" persona has had a few diffren online incarnations... in old Pokemon roleplays, she was a half-feline Team Rocket agent who was the subject of genetic experiments. She could turn into the pokemon Persian at will... but I'm not into Pokemon anymore.
