Poll: Are you...

Postby edo » Wed Jun 29, 2005 2:59 pm

I didn't know what forum on the site to post this in, so I figured general would be the best. I thought a poll would be interesting. Please provide a line or so of the reason for your answers. Here we go....

**Are you an enviromentalist?
**(If yes)What type of things do you do to help
**(If no)What do you think of enviromentalists?

Thanks, just thought it would make an interesting discussion.

Environmentalist? nah...if you mean conserve water, save the chinese half-tailed koala bears, everyone eat grass sort of person

However, I agree that littering and pollution are a real issue. Plus I was a vegetarian for almost 7 years and it opened mine eyes up to many issues that would be considered environmental.

balance is a beautiful thing. ^_^

I don't think I'm the tree-hugging type of environmentalist. I believe that God gave us things such as animals, vegetables, and water to use for our own benefit - however we should try to take care of what He's given us in a reasonable way. Don't overhunt, don't litter, try to carpool if you can, etc. Everything in moderation, basically. ^^;

Mod note: environmentalism isn't a proscribed topic per se, but please keep it out of politics. Just an pre-emptive reminder. :thumb:

I like the planet, I mean I live on it. I don't litter, I try not to waste water, I recycle, etc. I do think that any creature on this planet that hampers human progress is expendable though. Is there such a creature now in this day and age? No so no need to worry about it, but assume dinosaurs still roamed. I'd say make em extinct then I don't want an Allosaurus in my backyard. And I think the modern enviromentalist movement has been hijacked by crazies and don't fight for much of anything besides their short minded interests anymore.

I think that everyone would have to agree that we need to be careful about perserving our environment, especially taking care that we don't loose some of
our natural and national treasures. That said environmentalists have from time to time gone overboard as per the Snail Darter.

**no

At least by today's standards. I belvie in careing for the gifts God gave us, but I'm gonna eat my beef. I'll make my houses out of wood and use it to keep me warm. Besides, logging help prevents fires. :thumb: I don't like breathing in car exaust, but I don't realy give a crap if people can't afford to smog their cars. Enviromentalists these days are the wackos that will live in a tree to keep it from being cut down while they probrably wouldn't care if someone murdered a baby.

But the basis of it isn't all that bad. Take care for the earth, but they go to the extreem and maker this little mud ball God.

I'm sorry that you believe all environmentalists are wackos Shao, though I must admit there are quite a few outspoken nutjobs who've made things worse for the rest of us. I tend to classify myself as a Christian Environmentalist, I used to lump people like me in with the mainstream environmental groups, but I've come to notice some significant differences (like priorities, demeanor and behavior). But I already posted my feelings on the matter in a similar thread a while back. Here's the link:

Er... I'm a.. semi-environmentalist? I'm not out there burning trees (most of the time, anyway), but I'm not hugging them either. o_~ Well.. kind of.. I do like to sit next to trees.. You know.. the shade and stuff.. Pretty peaceful, too. Yeah... I'm not a tree-hugger.. Newp.

I do recycle whatever I can. I want to get an environmentally-friendly car, if possible. o.o So.. I try to do my part in maintaining the environment.

I am no environmentalist. But that doesn't mean I want to live in a pig sty planet.

I suppose it would have to depend on how exactly you defined environmentalist.

I do wish to see pollution heavily curtailed and for the natural areas we still have to be preserved.

On the other hand, I am not a "tree-hugging" type.

One of the sadder facts is that too many people tend to view the Church as being anti-Enviromentalist because of the phrasing in the KJV of a few key
verses in Genesis where it talks about how Man is to subdue the Earth. :(

Not really, and I couldn't care much less, to be honest. I don't really think the Earth will be here for many more years...I mean, not any more than a 100, at most.

I wouldn't hold my breath, people have been saying the end would be coming since Jesus went to heaven. It could be tomorrow or a millenia from now it doesn't really matter because it will eventually.
