Riviera: The Promised Land is a brand new GBA RPG that looks really good. It just came out today in fact.

It looked pretty good, but NP gave it a 5. :/ It's probably alright for RPG fans, but not as amazing as some of them out there.

As far as reviews are concerned, I would trust Gamespot, IGN, and EGM over Nintendo Power.

At any rate, RPGamer gave it a good review so I guess we will see.

To completely dispell the confusion:

Final Fantast Legend I II and III (GB) are known as SaGa in Japan.

Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) is Seiken Densetsu in Japan.

Sword of Mana (GBA) is a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Densetsu.

Secret of Mana (SNES) is Seiken Densetsu II in Japan.

Seiken Densetsu III (SNES), the best in the series, was tragically never released in the USA.

Golden Sun!!!!!!

Much awesomeness. 'Sides FF, it's my favorite RPG
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

Nintendo Power?! Isn`t that the magazine that voted Paper Mario 2 for best storyline. Don`t get me wrong, Paper Mario 2 was a great game but best story........no.

So all you guys that speak Japanese must be the only ones that know of SDIII`s greatness. What makes it better than the 3 others? i thought Legend of Mana looked interesting yet cartoonish, but I don`t know. You guys are right it was Legends III that I saw, not Adventure.

So it boils down to this. I`m debating over Golden Sun or Sword of Mana and I don`t know if this would afect anything but just so you guys can know what kind of RPGs I like.

Top 5:
(1) Final Fantasy VII (I know this game is highly overrated, but it`s so awesome)
(2) Final Fantasy X
(3) Final Fantasy VIII
(4) Grandia II
(5) Tied Between Star Ocean II and III

Sorry, Chrono Trigger is number six which I would lOVE to see a remake for on the GBA as well as FFVI.

So Legends is SaGa....me gets it now.

I guess I made a godd decision when I stared at the shelf thinking:

Hey,they made a tenth Final Fantasy. Never played any of those, Kingdom Hearts was a good play though. I`ll pick this one up, wait, how about Ulimited SaGa, sounds fun.....hm, I`ll go with FF10.

Golden Sun is far, far better than Sword of Mana in my opinion. Especially considering your top 5. Golden Sun has well developed characters and a very good (but very clichè) plot. Sword of Mana seems to focus more on dungeons and levelling up your character. The plot isn't nearly as good and it's even more clichè than Golden Sun's. In fact, I found Sword of Mana to be the worst of the Seiken Densetsu games in terms of story and dialogue. So, seing that you like Final Fantasy and Grandia, I would suggest Golden Sun. Both are good games, though.

So the works Mana game is Sword of Mana....ok.

If the first is Sword of Mana, the second one is Secret of Mana, and the fourth was Legend of Mana, what would the 3rd one have been called. Anyone know?

Alright, Golden Sun it is.

I don't think they even tried bringing Seiken Densetsu 3 to the US. So, I doubt there is a name for it to fit into the "Mana" series. At least I think that the games were simply called "Seiken Densetsu" in Japan, and then the "Mana" names were made up for the North American release? Correct me if I am wrong.

A kid in my class has Golden Sun and let my friend borrow it. I searched for it everywhere in the mall and couldn`t find the first one. The first Golden Sun is like a buried treasure....-_-

I vote golden sun just for the fact of how sad the seiken denetsu's story is. I'm not a fan of a game where 70% of all important characters you meet in the game die.

^ Spoilers, man. Even though you didn`t specifically say who it is, it still spoils. -_-

In FF2...
My favorite character died and it was still a great RPG. Ricard.
As far as reviews are concerned, I would trust Gamespot, IGN, and EGM over Nintendo Power.

Sorry. NP gave a 6.5. Basically, they said it was a good RPG, but not as amazing as many others. Maybe Gamespot's better, I dunno. NP's just the only I check.

Oh, and please don't speak of EGM around me. I'm sick of those guys. XP

Nintendo Power?! Isn`t that the magazine that voted Paper Mario 2 for best storyline. Don`t get me wrong, Paper Mario 2 was a great game but best story........no.

The NPKrew didn't. The annual poll thingy ended up giving PM2 best storyline and best music (over FFCC!!!). In fact, the NPKrew seemed kinda ticked that that happened (as was I). So, it's the majority of the gamer's fault, not the magazines. They're usually quite good in reviews, they're just... less harsh than many others out there.
