To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me.
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Just realised this thread should be under the General topic. I don't know what gave you the idea to put it in the Tutorials section. Very inappropriate. Maybe a mod could move this.

Go out in the fresh air more often to escape the smoke. It seems you can't avoid it in this situation, which must be a real pain. Has she tried quitting?

Moved to General, and no worries, mythmaster. If a thread gets put in the wrong spot, it gives us mods something to do. ^^

Second hand smoke never used to bother me, but a few weeks ago I was in a store and the person next to me must have just stamped one out. The smell doesn't bother me at all, but my lungs closed right up with no warning. It was pretty strange.

I feel smoking should be banned. Ofcourse there are those who choose to smoke - they can kill themselves slowly if they want, but what about us non-smokers? We shouldn't have to share it.

well you're not alone there, but it ain't gonna happen any time soon.

I had to put up with second hand smoking when I was younger than 5 years old. It got me asthma, but no addiction.

I dont want to start an argument, or get this tread political, but I feel that the opposite view should be put forward.

I do not think that smoking is a good thing. I know from a family experience that It is highly dangerous. My Grandfather lost his voice when I was about three because of his smoking. I never got to hear his real voice, he had to use a machine to talk. I hate cigaretts and what they can do to people. But...

I do not think that Banning them is the right move. When the government tries to make something Illegal that has been legal for a long time the public reaction is not generally good. When prohibition was put into force people found ways to get alcohol illegaly, and It was considerably more dangerous than the Liquer that was there previously. If the government bans smoking, many people who are addicted will most likely find other, less safe ways to get their smokes. I know some people who smoke. Because of their addiction, quitting is not someting they fell that they can do.

Yes, smoking is bad, but an all out ban is not going to solve the problem. The only way that I think we can stop smoking is working on one person at a time, and preventing new people from starting to smoke.

As for the actual topic of this thread: I think that the idea that you can become addicted by second hand smoke is a myth. It may be unpleasant, but there have been no specific proves that show that it can be addictive. Thats my 2 cents, and plaese dont turn this into a fight, I think it is someting that we can all benefit from discussing.

You know, smoking is sort of frusterating to me. I mean, I understand why it's legal and I don't think it would work for it to be illegal, but I wish it was. I mean, if people were just harming themselves then I'd say 'fine', but others don't really have a choice not to inhale if they're around the person.
