There is a fine line between nostalgia blindness. Yup, it's real easy to look back at Mario and Sonic and Zelda and Pacman and Donkey Kong and say how much greater games were back then. We forget about all the lousy licenced games and failed experiments. At the same time, we are still playing and talking about the good games from back then. I really don't think that there will be the same levels of nostalgia about Halo, Warcraft and GTA in twenty years, just because each sequel makes the previous one obsolete, whereas Super Mario Bros. 2, 3, World, ect. didn''t make Super Mario Bros. less fun. The aim today seems to be to fix all the problems with the previous game (bugs, level design, storyline) instead of build off of the first.
If I'm wrong, please look me up in twenty years and let me know.
