Dynasty Warriors 4 RPG

Postby AlBhedNikki » Tue Dec 21, 2004 11:53 am

A friend and I want to start an independent DW4 rpg, but we're both beginners in working websites and starting rpgs. Is there anyone that would like to help us, and/or become the thrid and fourth moderator for the rpg? If you would like to, please E-mail me at xxdigimiaxx@aol.com

If I'm not mistaken, there is already a series of Dynasty Warriors RPGs of sorts: The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the RPG counterpart of Koei's games about the Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history; and Dynasty Warriors is the Action RPG/hack 'n slash version.

Besides, one of the fundamental aspects of Dynasty Warriors is that it is an intense action game. Making it into an RPG would defeat the purpose and take away from the fun, in my opinion.

Feel free to continue with this project if you want, but as a long-time fan of Dynasty Warriors I don't think that it is a good idea.

It's about 6 months later, and I stand by my original position. Even as a long-time DW fan I don't think it's for me, but I hope that this goes well :thumb: .

My favorites (more than one) are Ma Chao, Gan Ning, Sun Ce, Taishi Ci, and Xiaohou Dun. I also like Guan Ping and Cao Pi, who made their debut (as playable characters, that is) in Dynasty Warriors 5. I tend to like the characters that fight with something other than just a simple sword or spear, such as Sun Ce and Taishi Ci.

In terms of personality my favorite is Ma Chao, especially as he is developed in DW5. I like the fact that he fights for justice and virtue rather than power, greed, or revenge. He is also more humble than some of the other generals on my list (I'm looking at you, Cao Pi and Gan Ning :P ).

Who me (lol). I think u lost me on that one. Hey have u been to this site

http://www.yueying.net/dw/

Some of these stories of tha characters are so sad. I can't believe Cao Pi. Errr, I am so mad at him now. He made Zhen Ji commit suicide so he can spend time with his new wife! I think she should of just left him for his brother, but then he would loose face. That seems to be a big thing amung us asian people. I'm not so much like that tho. My favorite guy is Zhao Yun. He's so cool. I had a dream about his last night (blush) He talked to me to! Have u had a dream like that befor?

If you are referring to this:

cbwing0 wrote:He is also more humble than some of the other generals on my list (I'm looking at you, Cao Pi and Gan Ning :P ).
That was directed at the game characters, who are portrayed as arrogant. For instance, Cao Pi's exclamation "Why do they even bother?" after defeating an officer.

That is an intersting site. The Encyclopedia section of the game also has a lot of information on the kingdoms, generals, and sub-characters of the three kingdoms.

I hope to buy (and read) the original novel over the summer. I am a fan of ancient literature in addition to being a fan of DW, so I am looking forward to it.

I think that the tale of the three kingdoms is tragic in general. Those that fought for a better land ruled by virtue (Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, etc.) all died without fulfilling their dreams, while the arrogant, greedy, and ambitious (Cao Cao, Cao Pi, Sima Yi, etc.) were eventually victorious. It is a powerful reminder that good does not always prevail in the world.

Actually, Cao Cao and Wei had the Imperial Mandate from the Han Dynasty, making them the rightful rulers of the land. Granted, the Mandate was forcibly given to them, but it was given nonetheless. As such, I see Cao Cao as the good guy trying to unify the land under the Imperial Mandate, while Liu Bei was stirring up trouble by trying to revive a dynasty that had already crumbled.

Cao Pi is a different story though...

That was on Xplay. That show is so funny. they kept replaying him saying:

"I am Cao Pi."

it was hilarious. I like lines such as:

"There are two modes of Gamelay in this game. Bad and Worse."
-Adam Sessler, Xplay

I heard every DW game is basically the same. So which one do you recommend the most?

Koei improves upon the game (even if only slightly) with each release, so I would recommend that you buy the most recent version, which is Dynasty Warriors 5. The gameplay is basically the same, but that doesn't mean that it isn't fun. ;)

Again, DW5 has the most developed story. It is the first game in the series to have a complete, detailed story mode for each character. It is actually quite well-done.

None of these guys were good. They were 4th century Chinese warlords with a 4th century warfare mentality. They all butchered eachother's citezenry in the name of justice and all that jazz. Not much romance going on in these kingdoms.:eyeroll:

Granted, historical accuracy is the last thing on the minds of the game developers. The books are historical fiction, so they may also take some liberties with the truth in the name of romance.

I would care about this if I was taking a class on it, but since when does historical (or logical, epistemological, empirical...) accuracy matter in a game that is clearly not meant to be historically accurate?

I won`t be able to tell the characters apart if their names are Shing Ping, Wong Chong, Waka Schmaka and all those names. Not good with japanese names

Ah man, I missed DW5 on Xplay. How dare they make fun of Cao Pi's name. Well, to tell u tha truth... Me and Arch Angel had a field day with his name to. It's aually pronounced Tsao Pi not Cao Pi. The dubbers made a mistake. Well, gotta go!!!
