Anyone heard of AeRO? Both my brothers were GMs on that server....
Anyways, my 2 cents of private servers. Imagine this, you spend 2 months of your free time to play on the public server (yes I payed) only to get ONE character to level 85. The insane amount of time I spent trying to get cards that dropped 1 in million... the countless hours mind numbingly killing monsters. The fact is, if the company made the game more accessible, I would have kept playing. But it wasn't accessible. The game was addictive, but it gave little in return. In that time I could have done a lot of other things.
But in a private server, I got the chance to see a powerful character, which is what I, and i'm sure a lot of other people wanted to do in games. In the same amount of time I spent in the official server, I got to got to play all the 2-2 class characters (and even more recenlty got to play with some Prestige characters), got all the cool weapons, and had the chance to compete against people who didn't use bots to gain there items (and even if they did, it was easy to get items so I could match them). And my addiction was served. I got what I craved and I stopped playing. Now imagine if I were to to try and do that in the official servers. I would be one of those people spending years just trying to see all the cool stuff., instead of doing things that would be benificial to me and mankind in general. I'm not saying people shouldn't pay for their games, or endorsing piracy, but if your reason for playing that game is the same as mine (and not merely for socializing) then playing the official servers is not worth the time.
We were meant to live for so much more.
