The tale of the flaming tortilla!

Postby ShiroiHikari » Wed Jun 08, 2005 1:54 pm

Originally posted in my Livejournal. Edited for language. o_o

About fifteen minutes ago, I was feeling pretty hungry. So I brushed a tortilla with some olive oil and put some seasonings on it, then stuck it in the toaster oven. I set it to toast it and went back to my desk.

When it dinged, I started to smell smoke. So I ran in there, thinking there was just some stuff on the bottom of the oven that had burned. But no. There was a small flame burning in there. My thoughts were, approximately, "Oh s***." So I open the door up and like an idiot I blew in there thinking it might put the little flame out.

Wrong.

The little flame instantly became FLAMING TORTILLA OF DOOM. These flames were about, oh, five or six inches tall, threatening to catch the cabinet door on fire. I panic and go under the sink for the fire extinguisher, but I can't get it off its hanger thing and the flame is getting bigger. By now the smoke alarm is screaming and it's making me very, very nervous. So I catch some water in my cupped hand and start throwing it on the tortilla. Mind you, I wasn't thinking about the electric toaster oven. I was thinking "OH NOES BIG FLAME THREATENING TO BURN DOWN KITCHEN MUST PUT OUT". Thankfully, it put the flame out. But now we're in the market for a new toaster oven. And that was the GOOD toaster oven, too.

I think I'll leave the scene untouched and take some pictures of it later.

You could have mine, we never use it.

That's a really funny story, S.H. But I bet it wasn't at the time!

That is a super funny story. ROFL!!!

Yes, it's best to NEVER blow on a fire, since oxygen feeds the flame. Anyway, in the future remember to smother those flames in the kitchen and suffocate them. XDD

Also, I've never had a tortilla fixed like that; it sounds yummy. ^__^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!.......

That reminds of the time my regular toaster caught on fire when I put a pop tart inside. ...I went into the kitchen a couple minutes later, and the toaster/pop tart had become a flaming fireball of DEATH. Ah, the memories...

That's like the time my mom turned on the oven and forget she had left the pizzas in there, still in the boxes. A couple minutes later, our oven was this fire-breathing creature. O_O

That happened to me with a burrito... luckily, it didn't go ablaze, but it was black and smoking. Actually, it reminded of something else, but I was too afraid of the smoke. I just threw the thing into the sink and drenched it, and opened all the doors in the house.

When I was younger I put an old bag of popcorn in the microwave, and didn't take the twisty thing off it. Looked like someone was welding in there.

Thats reminds me of the time i set a tortillia on fire useing a gas stove. livewire wouldn't let me cook a tortillia for 8 years after when ever I was around her. I finally convinced her it was because I was talking to some one and not paying attention. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't set the dish towel on fire too.

That was great1 I once saw a poptart catch on fire. The person who did it didn't remove the wrapper.

Not that long ago, my father put some fried chicken he'd bought for dinner into the oven. For some reason, whenever we eat fast food/pizza/stuff like that at home, he puts it into the oven, even if we're about to eat it. (We could be pulling out plates, and he'd be putting the food into the oven. Don't ask me why.) Well, anyway, I think he set the oven to broil instead of low, and, well... shall we say the bag was a bit darker and the chicken a little crispier when it came back out.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Wow, Shi-hi. I'm glad you're still alive to tell us this tale.

But now we shall mourn for your toaster. *dons black*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Um, reminds me of an "incident" that happened a few weeks ago. Highly embarrasing, but funny now.

We had some friends over for a BBQ. The meat was about 3/4 done, and looking great, when the gas bottle ran out of gas. No problem, I nipped up the road and had it refilled in about 5 minutes. But when I reconnected the bottle, the BBQ would light but the flames were very low. So I decided to take the hose out of the bottle to see if it was blocked...... BIG mistake! The end result was, a massive fireball that singed the hair on one arm, one eyebrow and one side of my head, and a massive flame pouring out of the gas bottle that melted the hoses, knobs and wheels of the BBQ. I had to stand there with a hose pouring water on the bottle for 20 minutes until the Fire Brigade came, so that a) the gas bottle wouldn't explode and b) the wooden garage the BBQ was next to wouldn't catch fire.
Luckily, nobody was hurt (unless you count my pride). We did, however, have to eat takeaway pizza because the meat was ruined by the Fire Brigade when they burst into the backyard with their fire hose. :dizzy:
