The Boss Thread

Anyone here stuck on a boss in a video game? I thought it would be cool to start a thread specifically for bosses. Just tell us the name of the game and boss. Remember to use spoiler brackets as well if the boss is a character that betrays you or something. Ok, there`s some bosses I`m stuck on.

His last form. He keeps whiping me out. I have a ressurection stone. Should I use it for this boss or save it for the next battle which is the last one?

I`m stuck on more bosses but those are the main ones i`m focusing on.

Which second form are you talking about? Depending on how you find Lavos, he really has three forms...If you fight him by finishing all 8 sidequests (the last one being the Black Omen) or by using the bucket at the End of Time, Lavos should have three forms. But if you fight him by using the Epoch, he'll only have two...Is that what you're talking about? Because Lavos's third form is the one that makes you want to pull your hair out...However, I made a simple strategy to beat him (at least how I beat him, anyways).

There are two Bits on either side of Lavos. The one on the right can revive the Left Bit or the Lavos Core (I think that was what it was called...correct me if I'm wrong). The Left Bit can heal the Right Bit and the Lavos Core, and also serves as a defense mechanism for Lavos. The Lavos Core will use all of the unbelievably strong attacks, which will definitely require the use of a few Barriers, Shields and the like on your part. If you defeat the Right Bit, the Lavos Core and Left Bit will die automatically. So naturally, you're going to want to put your strongest attacks on the Right Bit.

Have Crono, Marle, and Frog in your Party. Have Crono and Marle use normal attacks on the Left Bit, while Frog uses Leap Slash. The Left Bit only has about 2000 HP, so this should KO it pretty efficiently. Once Lavos Core turns off his defense after the Left Bit is dead, use attacks like Arc Impulse (Triple), Luminaire (Crono's ultimate attack), and any other hard-hitting attacks on the Right Bit (and on Lavos Core, if the attacks affect more than one). When your HP is low, have Marle and Frog use Double Cure, and have Crono attack the Right Bit. Also, Elixers and Megalixers are very helpful for replenishing HP and MP. Repeat this process until the Right Bit revives the Left Bit, and once the Lavos Core turns its defense back on. Using the aforementioned strategy, defeat the Left Bit again, and continue to throw your strongest attacks at the Right Bit. If your level is high enough, you should be able to defeat Lavos.

It took me a while to beat Lavos (a week, maybe? Doesn't beat my two weeks of fighting Adel in FFVIII, and then accidentally DELETING my freakin' game, but hey...>_<), but that was the strategy I used. He's most certainly not a walk in the park, seeing as how CT was made back when the hardest bosses were saved for the end of the game, but he's far from impossible! ^_^ Hope this strategy helps whoever uses it!...Aw, writing this makes me wanna go play CT again!! ^_^

Responding to The Lavos Subject:

When I used the Epoch I challenged a boss called "Lavos Core" And it`s first move did 1000 damamge to my characters when the Max is 999, right?

Yeah, max HP in CT is 999. I think your problem deals more with armor and defense levels. I suggest you do the 8 sidequests...That's what I did on my first playthrough. You get everyone's strongest armor, weapons, and you get a load of good items. Very helpful, especially when fighting a boss like Lavos. Sounds to me like you need stronger armor, and also more exp. Just finish those side quests; they take you deeper into the story, give you lots of exp., and they net you the best items/weapons/armor in the game.

Heh...the Boost Guardian in Metroid Prime 2 took me four tries.

At any rate, yeah, Chrono Trigger was made back in the day, and Lavos is definitely the roughest boss of the game. If you don't do the sidequests, you'll be in REALLY poor shape to fight him. You won't have any of the equipment that makes the fight easier, not to mention the lack of levels. The Black Omen is kind of up to your discretion, but you need to do at least all the other side quests, or you're going to have to fight a LOT of random battles.

Ok, thanks for the hints. I have most of the Sidequests one. I can remember i had the choice to the get the best defence armour or the best offensive weapon and i chose the armour.

Ok, I beat the Grandia boss, but i`m stuck on the boss after.

I use all my best attacks on the previous boss so I can`t whipe out the Mega Gaias. Justin`s Midair Cut does 1200 damage on Baal, should I save those attacks?

I beat her the first time. Just kept using Bobbary to blast an arm, then Mario strike the other one, then both attack the Queen like crazy. Personally, I just found it long, but not too hard.

The bazooka guy and the whip guy, right?

That one was tricky. Concentrate all of your attacks on the bazooka guy as he can cause loads and loads of damage. Try to repeatedly combo him. You can try to MP-kill him if you want, as he doesn't have that much MP. You will probably want to have your targeting system set on Manuel so you won't Auto-Target whip guy whenever he comes close. Once bazooka guy falls, whip guy should be easy enough.

Try one of Fayt's 'sword' modes, like Ice Sword and then just attack with him normally. That's how I do it.


All of the optional boss's on Star Ocean 3 are super tough.

I found Ultemcia from FF8 challenging. 4 different forms?!?!

A good way to play through FF8 is to head to the Shumi Village often and use the Drawpoint and get 99 Ultimas and equip them to Squall`s Hp giving you around 8000 Hp. Also when you get to Disk 4, head over to the Island Closest to Heaven or the Island Cloests to hell. They are both islands on the world map that have a drawpoint in almost every area. Oh yeah, and the spells are good such as Full-Life, Ultima, Meteor, and such. Make sure you teach leviathin the "Recover" ability. Now for the battle.

I found her first form fairly easy. Just kept using Squall`s limit break.

He was tough. Make sure he doesn`t draw the 99 Ultimas from Squall I told you to equip and if he does then kindly press the reset button unless you have better characters. Oh yeah, and Auras are really helpful for this fight. Islan Closest to heaven has tons.

Griever-Ultimecia

This battle was where I got a game over because Greiver used Shockwave Pulser before he died. So I was down to low Hp to Ultimecia-Griever knocked me down. Luckily, I had the Pheonix Pinion from the sidequest in Shumi Village which i highly recommend doing. Squall`s 'Fated Circle" does heavy damage.


Ultimecia-Ultimecia (How original)

This resembles Sephiroth-Safer, Seymour Omnis, and Necron in a way.
Very challenging.

When this boss rolled in my characters were Rinoa with 7000Hp and Squall with 8000 (ironic how they were the last huh?) Anyways, I decided to try using "Wishing Star" for the first time which was a move Rinoa knew that I ignored. Not a bad idea. Did around 60,000 damage. Whenever she reduced their Hp to 1 I triple casted Curaga on Squall and used "Recover" on rinoa. I also triple casted Meteor alot which did massive damage and used Squall`s limit Break until she died.

Hardest FF last boss I beat. The FFs i haven`t beaten yet are 4,5, and 6. Obviously I haven`t beaten 3 and you can count Tactics.

How far in So3 are you? Fayt`s sword moves become more and more useless after awhile. Speaking of Star Ocean, I got the 2nd one in the mail today. I`m ready to be stuck on a boss so I`ll post it here.

It took me a full hour and fiftenn minutes to beat Metal Gear in Metal Gear Solid. CURSE YOUR ...uh... RAYDOME THINGY, METAL GEAR REX!

the hardest boss i have ever beaten was fire leo from viewtifull joe on viewtiful difficulty level. you basicly have to sit there for 30 minutes and not get hit 3 times. 2nd place goes to lady yunalesca in FFX. i think the coolest boss fight i ever did was fighting the end in MGS3 man was that a cool fight.

Bigzam: You made a big mistake, man. I have to admit that boss was the third toughest in the entire game but i kept trying and used my overdrives as much as possible. One thing that really helps in that boss is using Bio. If you ever want to play FF7, just go to gamestop and they should have like 50 of them. it`s not one of those "buy it online" games such as Xenogears or Star Ocean 2.
