I've seen the anime and it left a not so good impression on me. It really made me feel icky and weird inside after watching it one day. So I'll just stay away from it to looks like this makes me convicted or something. Anyway the feeling I had was not good because it made me sick and nervous for awhile.

I've heard the manga, like most of the mangas, get much more involved with the characters than the anime. Funny, I didn't feel icky watching Inuyasha at all. I wonder what it was that made you feel that way.

You must have me confused with some other shooraijin -- I like *UY* (Urusei Yatsura != Inu-Yasha) .

I've actually seen very little IY, although I do have a couple of discs of it. It's sort of hard to come into the middle of the story, however, even though I know the basic plot and most of the characters (insert St. Peter's Kagome "HI!" picture). Recently I've been getting sucked into Maison Ikkoku (to maintain the Takahashi theme), and Fruits Basket, anyhow.

OT continued briefly ... yes, I liked MI a lot (and it's another Takahashi anime, right). I'd rate it around PG to PG-13, though, because there's a bit of adult humour in it (not merely a dub/translation phenomenon), but the story line is very strong. It's also relatively inexpensive as Viz box sets go. The first set is out now, and the second set is due to arrive mid-November (my pre-order is already in).

I hope I don't look stupid or anything but I've read some of the Ranma 1/2 manga and seen pics on the net of the Inuyasha ones and the mangas were a bit...er...graphic in body details if you know what I mean (not "smoothed over" Barbie dolls like in the animes). I use to really like the Inuyasha anime but after learning that it was made abut the same artist who did Ranma 1/2 and seeing the pics on the net, I sort of had a falling out. Just a little warning I guess so you know what's in it ^_^

Yes, unfortunately, both the Ranma 1/2 anime and manga do have cartoon nudity (a shame, it's probably my favourite series). It's infrequent, mercifully, but it's there. Fortunately, it's certainly nowhere near hentai level, but this still might be too much for some people even though the intent as I see it is comedic rather than pornographic. Viz is serious about the 13+.

I haven't watched enough Inu-Yasha (getting back on topic) to know if it's there too; there's a (very) little bit in the initial episodes of Urusei Yatsura, which is also the same artist, but not much later on. Really, Takahashi Rumiko is not all that noted for it.

Inu Yasha has a faithful adaptation from the anime to the manga. From a friend who has seen much more of the anime than I have, he said there has only been about 4 filler episodes out of over 120. THAT is impressive. The art is simply gorgeous, and Sesshomaru is one of my favorite bishies of all time.

It is one of my favorite manga series ever, and I've read up to volume 31 (via translations). It is different from anything Rumiko Takahashi has ever done before, and is refreshing. Inu Yasha also has one of the coolest love triangles ever.

Well, that's my two cents for now.

Boy, that's a good question. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't read any manga or watch any anime, if you really think about it. He'd probably be busy with more important stuff. Even the G rated stuff, do you really think He'd waste His time?

I think we live in a world that has lots of great stuff and very creative people. We have artists and writers, movie makers and musicians. When have you crossed the line? Should we all hide in Family Christian Bookstore? Should we make sure there are no TV's in our house? Should we stop walking in malls, for fear of seeing or hearing something we shouldn't?

That's a good question. I just wonder.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but you really made me think. I don't know if anyone could answer your question, Ruroken. The premise of this whole CAA would be wrong if we really thought about it. Do Christians and anime/manga really mix?

I can only know what I feel and how the Holy Spirit works in me. So, I just wonder if anyone can answer your question honestly. Hmm?

Back to topic: What do you think of the Inuyasha manga? Obviously my cute little chibi_chan likes it. I can only answer for me and her. Inuyasha is really enjoyed in our household. It's a well-written story from a great mangaka.

All i can say on this subject is that I can't exactly picture Jesus writing on copy after copy of the bible as they had to before the printing press, but one certainly can't say that it's non-christian...

In fact, though WWJD is a great guideline for some things, I do not think God could or even does reasonably expect each christian to be exactly like Jesus.

If every person was perfect there would be no reason for Jesus to sacifice would there? I'm not saying sinning is ok, but I think that there are so many places in the bible where it talkes about Jesus dying in our place, and Jesus being our mediator to God, and his sacrifice being for the forgivness of our sins, I get the impression that Jesus' death was so that we didn't HAVE to worry about every tiny detail, and so long as we believe in Jesus and God, and that our sins can be forgiven, we can be saved.

I'm not sure that makes any reasonable sense, or that it conveyed what I ment it to, but it seems to me that if Jesus can enjoy eating dates, we can enjoy watching anime. ^_^

This may ease your fears. The term used to describe most of the creatures in InuYasha is youkai. Now according to edict, a youkai can be a ghost, apparition, phantom, spectre, demon, monster, goblin. The term is a lot broaded than a Western/Christain demon. There can be good youkai (like Shippo) and even youkai who have a change of heart (InuYasha/Sesshomaru). Real demons wouldn't do that.

well i guess it could be alike ahh a fairytale if you willl. lord of the rings has wizards demons mystical charcters... but the focus is good vs evil as in harry potter it teaches kids how to be witches and wizards... but im not trying to rationalize this, mind you

Well, I don't pretend to know what Jesus thinks, but I do know this: He can use any tool He wants to lead a person to salvation. Suppose there's a Christian and a non-Christian who watch the same show, get on a forum and realize their common interest. It could open the gateway to softening the non-Christian's heart.

I do know that Inuyasha is meant in a fairy-tale capacity however, and was never intended to be interpreted as having a basis in reality (many manga copies of Inuyasha say: Inu-Yasha: A Feudal Fairy-Tale" as serves my memory).

Sorry, that's not -really- an answer to your question, Ruroken, but rather my viewpoint.

Take this into consideration. Look at the following fantasy novels: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Return of the King, InuYasha and the Dragons of Winter Twilight.

All four have mystical aspects: wizards, dragons, beasties, magic. But no one has any problems reading LWW or RoTK. No one says Gandalf teaches children magic or leads them to the occult. But you bring up something like InuYasha, Harry Potter, or anything based on D&D, and the accusations fly.

What I'm trying to get at is the wizards and magic and beasties are just trappings. RoTK is about good vs evil. InuYasha shows the transformation of a selfish half-demon to a fairly noble character. Look at the message, not how its presented. Remember that in the book of Esther, God is never mentioned. But is in the Bible.

There is very little in my opinion. However, I've mostly seen fansubs and it will depend on how they translate. For example, the word "kuso" is thrown around a lot by InuYasha. I've seen it translated anywhere from "darn" to "f***". The fantasy violence and minor nudity would fall into the adult content. The violence isn't bloody and the nudity isn't very detailed or overtly sexual. In vol 1, Kagome takes a bath. She's naked for one frame. You don't see much. I see it no different than nudity in classical art. Sometimes you're naked :-)

In the dub, the language is minimal, almost always only occurs in moments of anger/fights. There is, however, the issue of Miroku...he occasionally grabs one of the girls in a fairly inappropriate manner and other times says something to the effect of "Will you bear my children?" It's not that bad though.
