When I answer the phone, people either think that I'm my 52 year old mom or my 13 year old sister. In person, people usually think that I'm 14. Once there was some nut who thought I was 13.
When I was about 13, I had short hair and it was awful so I would wear a Houston Rockets hat all the time. People thought I was a boy but that stopped after I started to uh grow.

I must tell you, some of these 18-19 year olds look RIDICULOUS (wish I could spell)
They are so so YOUNG, and yet they look stupidly OLD, by growing out these insane old-fart beards and hair. I mean it bothers me just looking at them.

I need to take some pics... secretly. The last thing I want is everyone knowing I have a collection of pics of guys with overly grown facial hair... unless I had a website about "guess their age"... no no, that wouldn't be right either. Dang, i'm stuck.

Anyway they just look wrong.

:/ Well shaving is kind of a style thing. Beards (and leg hair for women) just have seemed to have become tabu. And don't wear a sleeveless shirt and not have shaved your pits. Oooh the stares. Personally I agree with Volt but I can't fault someone for not going with the crowd where shaving is concerned. :p

My hair isn't long enough to where I've been mistaken for a woman yet, but I'm trying to get it there.

I really think it's sad that people don't take children seriously. That's why young looking adults get so ticked and want to look older. Children can be silly creatures but so can adults valid ideas and opinions should be respected and not laughed at even if it's coming from someone who hasn't been around as long.

You guys, looking old can be much worse, though. I talked with a girl from church who was twelve but looked at least fifteen.

She said one time an older guy (18-ish) came up to her and asked her out and told her she was hot. She told him, "I'm twelve." And he was like, "You're body's not twelve."

She was obviously seriously weirded out by it, even months later.

GEEZ! People have no tact! And that's not the first time this has happened to me. People are always telling Yumie (infront of me) that they would have DEFINITELY thought she was older. Argh!

So, does this happen to anyone else?

.....That's... gotta be irritating... *snickering madly* XDD;;; Okay, um, besides that. o.o XDDDD Ahhahahahaa *couldn't help herself* *COUGH* That's happened to me once. I was getting ready for this party my grandfather was having a few years ago. It was a big event, and my brother and I had to dress in the traditional Korean clothing (hanbok). For some reason, wearing it made me look really young and.. uh... >__> Well, just really young. XD;;; Anyway~ There were a lot of people that I had never seen before, and one of them decided to take me under her wing. T__T I spent the next hour being petted, fussed over, and I watched as she got me some food. Why didn't I tell her I was older? Oh, I did. Believe me, I did. But I don't know Korean, and she didn't know English. It was so... fun... >__> Finally, it came to the time when my brother and I had to take part in the dance/ceremony held in my grandparents' honor, and someone was able to let her know that I didn't need help putting my make-up on. XD;;;;; That was quite memorable.

o.o Now though, I don't have that problem. =O People often think that I'm younger than I am when I talk to them on IM and such. >=O In-person, though, I've either been mistaken as being a couple years older, or they guess the approximate age correctly. *__* / Eheehee.

T__T Poor Osaka. *patpat* >=O Next time that happens, slap 'em with a rubber chicken. >__> No, not really. XD;; But yes, I utterly agree. Some tact on the lady's part would have been nice. My (COMICAL AND NOT OFFENSIVE -- so I don't want no older members chasing after me with age-defying pitchforks -- ) belief is that as people get older, their "common-sense-on-how-to-not-aggravate-teenagers" dies. \ T__T / It's a devastating occurance, and one that my mother suffers from, as well. Like when she grabs my hands and twirls me around as we shop in a mall when a song she adores is playing. Or when she yells out "My daughter is so beautiful~!!!!!!" "Kyaa!!! My darling princess!!" and such... in the middle.. of a crowd... and.. I get.. these smiles and stares from people... and I.. wish I was invisible. T___T Mothers.. and all other adults.. have a desire to let it be known that they're older than us, and have therefore earned the right to make us squirm.

Sunako: Ugh. I can totally relate to the mom problem. I won't go into details, but it's a common occurrence while shopping in a clothing store for her to scream at the top of her lungs to question as to whether or not I need new "under garments"(except she calls them an extremely embarrassing alternative name), along with the follow-up of whether I like the pink and/or frilly ones. I shudder at the memories. I go to great lengths not to shop with her anymore. >.>;

Making little sisters squirm is still the best.

I really have no anecdote that goes with the topic. Most people that I talk to know me and my age pretty well. The others really have no reason to comment on it and don't.

I'm sorry, Osaka, but it seems tact is in a recession recently.

He he he. Your mom sound like Kyoko Honda, Tohru's mom, from Fruits Basket!

*sigh* I can sympathize with your embarassment.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I only read the first page of the thread... not gonna read all seven. But here's my sympathetic story:

A few weeks ago, someone knocked on the door of our house. I answered the door, and it was a realtor lady going door-to-door with flyers. She looked at me and said, "Hi, are your parents home?"

"My PARENTS??"

She looked closer. "Oh! I'm sorry! You look so young!"

"Um... thanks."

(glances at age in profile)

Well... I guess it's a good thing. At the very least, I'll think it's a good thing in 20 years.

time to educate the sunako in the weird asian parenting ways

asian parents... ALWAYS compare with their friends kids

"ohh! Joseph went to KOREA last summer! why don't you go.... he lost a LOOOTTT OF weight there"

"look at Robbie! He got a 1100 on the SAT! What about you? you got only a 770!" (this was in like.... 7th grade)

"why don't you join softball with the other church kids???"

"why can't you study like other kids"

^pretty much all true

"be happy that you have a computer, tv, blah blah and that you have it good and go to a private school etc etc"

and everyone says "i wish i were asian" :shake:

heh... I used to get this all the time when I was about 16. At my first job, people would always ask how old I was. They thought I was really young. like 13.

Strangely, when I got a bit older (like 18) people started thinking I looked like peter parker (spider-man), and every so often Harry Potter.

So I went from being 13 to being either Peter Parker or Harry Potter.

Wierd.

u.u To be Asian means that you're going to be hounded by your parents and peers about your grades. I'm not kidding. Grades are EVERYTHING! Ah, you got an A- on your report card, you say? A couple years ago, I frequently got "So, what High School do you go to" and occasionally "What Jr. High/Middle School do you go to?" Now, at least, it's just "Are you a senior now?" So, I guess, that only puts me as 5 years younger than I actually am... I'm starting to catch up to me!

Well, I'm sure you'd look older to me. To Brits, Americans look older than they are and to American Brits look younger. So if anyone is going to look below their age it's me. Went to buy a volume of The New Dominion Tank Police once (in the UK), certified 15. I was 17 or so at the time as recall and the lady wanted to card me. I just looked at her and she let me go.

Dude... I dunno if my family is Asian in disguise, or if all families are that way, but my parents act EXACTLY the way you described yours. The grades, the "you're so much prettier/smarter/funnier/...anything better than him/her", the comparing to my friends... EVERYTHING!! I haven't seen any other non-Asians in this thread relate with me, so I guess... That I have been an Asian my whole life without realizing it. My parents, grandparents, family tree books, and research on my ancestry were all lies!!! My ancestors were most certainly NOT European/Native American! ........................That doesn't explain me being tall, brunette and green-eyed, though... :eh:

People say I look older than I am. Once, when I was in middle school, our youth group went and did some church thing at GC&SU (College State and State University), and a woman there asked what year of college I was in.

I was just thinking "Lady, do I look like I'm in college?"

Apparently I did.

It's wierd now, though, because I recall I time when I was this short, fat little middle schooler and now I'm this tall, only sleight overweight guy with no facial hair. I'm one of the tallest people in my classes now and I'm getting to be taller than my best friend, which feels wierd to me because I was looked at him being this big, cool guy that nobody would mess with (and I still do), but I'm starting to feel that way about myself as well.
