"Why do fangirls like men that look like women?"

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Hoshika » Sat May 28, 2005 3:24 am

Romance novels? I thought this was a topic on bishi. Anyway, unless I stumble into it by mistake I usually don't read romance. I don't know about stuff written by Christian authors (but from what you guys say it sounds pretty pathetic), but I know a lot of secular stuff is just flowered up erotica- which is my main reason for staying away from romance.

As for the topic at hand I think Alice hit the nail on the head. Though while the effeminate man may be appealing to women at the same time such "girly" looking men are an eye soar to many guys, perhaps because the soft appearance messes with their idea of what a woman should look like and it threatens a man's sexuality in some way... I mean I'd feel real sorry for the poor guy who mistakes another man for an attractive woman; the shame, the embarrassment.

Anyway, my opinion of this; manly men be proud of your over flowing masculinity and effeminate men be proud that you're men. ^_^

Maybe the reason I have 8" of hair below my nose is because women kept telling me "You know, with your eyelashes, you'd make a very pretty girl!"

........

So now I have a manly gotee and taken up the manly sport of competitive tractor throwing.

What I don't understand is why eight inch long nose hair would make you look like a girl.

Did he post reign pics? That WOULD be pretty disturbing... I know, I've seen reign...

Anyhow, I am a guy (yeah, that's right) and I wasn't bothered by stuff like Gackt because, I suppose, I've become somewhat used to it through different shoujo anime, but I showed the Mizerable music video to a friend and she said she felt bad after watching it, mostly because "He looks like a girl"

Hahahaha... Anyhow... I just had the video because I like Violin, I like the chorus, I thought the idea of, um, satan playing violin was interesting, and I liked the very brief Jacob's Ladder reference... She was so offended by it I ended up deleting it... *sigh*

o.o I think it really depends on the person, for myself. "Feminine" does not automatically equal "attactive". For instance, you obviously know that I love my darling Nicholas dearly. I do not need to tell you he is masculine. However, Youko Kurama has been known to make me stare blankly at the screen. So, for me, it depends.

Everyone has different perceptions and ideas of how a guy or girl should look like. I had a Laruku pic on my laptop the other day. While I thought they looked completely masculine, my boyfriend who glanced at them, said "Those guys look like girls" and said no more after that.

We both seem to be able to live with our differences and respect each other's interests. Life is good. >^^<

I one time put on one of my mother's wigs one time, a bob style (before I grew a mustache) and I think my mother took a picture of me and its somewhere in the house. If I had a sister I think we have looked alike.
After having a mustache for so long I have been thining it out until I think I will get rid of it. It been graying in spots and didn't look right plus I had to wax it to keep it trimmed and finding wax was a pain. I have heard a few women who say they wouldn't date a guy with facial hair because it gets in the way of kissing.
Only reason I grew a mustache was because someone dare me to because they had one.

Duh. Because just the looks of a guy doesn't make him a bishie.

Steriotypically, in manga, the most manly of men are borish brute who'd rather throw a crying woman over his back than ask her what's wrong and find out how he can help her. This is not true of ALL manly men, just many of them.

On the flip side, many of the femi-men characters are more sensative, and quiet. Mystery is alluring to women. Most of the more subdued femi-men characters have more of an aura of "There's more to me than my pretty [all be it somewhat feminine] face." That is what attracts me and, I'll bet, alot of other women to femi-men fandom.

(Let it be known that Osaka doesn't often fan-girl swoon at the feet of girly bishies. She's more of a manly bishie woman, herself, but she also chooses not to throw rocks at her fangirl sisters who feel differently. And if you value your life, you'll do the same.)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I agree with manga fanatic! I mean, all of my friends think that Kenshin looks like a girl, but I don't! I think he's adorable! But, the main reason for that is probably because none of them ever watch the show or read the mangas, so they don't really know who he is...but...whatever! I still think he's hot...XD

LOL
I was wondering when someone would point that out! There are a lot of effinate "good looking" vilian characters that are just flat out EVIL! ....Um, I have one that particularly comes to mind but I rather not bring up that anime.....
Anyway, here is one Sephorith. He may not be mistaken for a woman from the front but from behind he sure looks the part; long flowing well taken care of white hair. Oh! And don't forget his very pretty clone Yazoo from the, yet to be released (in the U.S. anyway, I think....), FFVII movie Advent Children. Very evil and very pretty and I seriously doutb on the inside he is nothing more than a complete brute.

Ugly guys can be quiet and sentative too.

I, personally, tend to like the villains *more* than the nice/feminine men. But I know it's not that way for everyone. (This is just a tendency, but it's there!)

As for nice/ugly guys, how about Kuwabara? He was sort of the comic relief, but he was a lot nicer than many of the other characters.

I don't know anyone who's a Kuwabara fan, though! But in real life, he would be the best of the people, because he's not afraid of his feelings, and even if he's not the toughest of the characters, he always tries to do the right thing.

But... he's always played for laughs!

You might think you're being spiteful Impact, (and you sound it), but creating a wonderful ugly character would be a great thing. Anime would benefit from an infusion of something that doesn't have to do with looks. Frankly, just about everyone in anime is above average in looks.

And, not to be a butt, but I bet it would be a lot harder to create a *female* character who was ugly but guys liked...

I've said my piece. :P

:lol: But Impact...what if I don't think any of them are ugly? XD;

Anyways. >.> On a more serious note - I'd like to point out that "beauty", both in males and females, isn't only a personal preference (like how I love Kuja but think Miyavi is a little too femmy), but also a matter of culture as well. Example? Women with fuller figures are more valued in African and Hispanic cultures, while in Western countries a "beautiful" woman is slender. Here in the US a lot of people may define an "attractive" man as someone with rugged, manly charms, but in Japan many people prefer men with softer faces and slighter figures.

Personally I'm not all for getting on about someone's personal preferences either way, since I've been teased a lot for my taste in guys, but hey, maybe that's just me. ^_^;

I agree with Kokoro...I think it depends on the culture.

Most women here in the US like men who are slightly rugged and "manly" looking.

In Italy, most of the young men are VERY pretty with longer hair and slender figures, and that's what flies over there.

Personally, I'm attracted to "pretty" boys because they're almost always well taken care of, looks wise. They dress nice and they just look...well....pretty.

However, it's always what's inside that counts. ^_~
