I loved the first one, so I will probably buy the sequel.

Hopefully the developers will improve the flight controls, since they are apparently making space battles a more important part of the game.

This looks like a disturbing trend in the game industry, releasing games with features you know that the players want in a sequel. They did this with SWG in the form of the Jump to Lightspeed x-pack, Jedi Academy to Jedi Outcast, and now this. They know we want to fight space battles and fight as Jedi, but they didn't include it in the first one.

As long as it doesn't unbalance the game, I don't see any problem with this. Players should be able to determine what they want to see in a game (they do anyway through sales figures). It doesn't consitute "selling out" on the part of developers, but rather consciousness of improvements that could be made to the game in order to make it more enjoyable.

In my opinion, all of the new feature may not be great. The ability to play as a Jedi is interesting (after all, playing as a hero is generally more fun than playing as a faceless grunt), although it will be difficult to prevent them from dominating the battlefield (unless your oponnent is also a jedi, which could be very interesting in multiplayer). I found that the controls for flying vehicles in the first Battlefront were very akward, to the point that using them in the game was more of a chore than an advantage. Unless the controls are improved for the larger space battles, the new emphasis on space battles could prove to be one of the sequel's greatest weaknesses.

The only real danger is that new features may be poorly implemented (I'm looking at you, PoP: Warrior Within). Whether or not this will be the case in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 remains to be seen.

My point wasn't that they gave into gamers for the sequel. My gripe is that they knew that we wanted all of this stuff all along and chose to save it for a sequel, because they wouldn't have been able to justify creating a sequel if they hadn't.

That is another claim entirely, yet it is also mistaken. How could the developers have known what players wanted a game that they had never played? The first game in a series involves some risks, since it is not clear whether players will buy the overall idea of the game. The sequel gives the developers a chance to respond to reviews and player feedback.

This is what I see happening between the two Star Wars: Battlefront games. LucasArts already knows how to make interesting air/space combat games, but they didn't want that to be the focus of the original Battlefront. The attraction was the ability to participated as a soldier in many of the famous Star Wars battles, which was something new in a Star Wars game. I do not agree that the developers could have known that players would want all of the features that will be in Battlefront 2 (and they couldn't have included all of them, since some of the battles are based on Episode 3). If they had included space battles in the first game, it would have been too much like so many other Star Wars games that focus on air/space combat. At any rate, it would have distracted from the innovative elements of the game. The same could be said for the inclusion of playable jedi, since the point of the game was to play as a generic soldier instead of a one-man army.

Which would you rather have in a sequel: a rehash of the first game, something totally different, or significant improvements to the original concept? Assuming that the original game was good (and I think we can agree that Star Wars: Battlefront was good), I would prefer the third option.

Although it was a very fun game, the one-player mode lacked. I heard that this will be improved. Above space battle, unit options, vechicle options, jedi options, I would like a better unit control. I want the ability to tell a random unit commands like guard this base, man this turret, go way to that base other there, attack that guy, ect. like in freedom fighters. I doubt unit control will meet my excessive desire in this sequel, but perhaps in PS3 or 360...
