Best Final Fantasy villain

Having just finished FFX, I feel that Yu Yevon deserves an honorable mention for making you sit through possession animations for every single aeon.

A bit of a selfish request, but can someone get me a good picture of this guy? I can't play FFX (since I don't have a PS2), but I love the music (Yu Yevon's theme is called "Decisive Battle", isn't it?) and the battle seems pretty cool (even if it is as long as UC says).

But yes, he deserves at least some recognition (though my fav is still Sephy).

Yu-Yevon was rather wimpy.
Don't you have automatic Auto-Life on all characters so that you can't actually lose that battle?

Yu Yevon was the lamest "villain" if you can call it that. Kefka is just one evil dude hands down. Like others have said he's just the epitome of ultimate evil he's almost Lucifer incarnate. He might not have the cool points of Sephiroth but what other villain wants to just destroy the world just for the heck of it? That's some cold blooded shizz right there.

And as far as Ultimecia goes there is something very interesting in her as a villain. This is a link to an argument that has been going on for years. I discovered it a little over two years and after reading through it several times I think that "Ultimecia" is officially the most interesting "villain." I really encourage you all to read it I gurantee your opinion will do a 360 on Ultimecia.

Could you restate assomething like "I think he's the lamest villain..." instead of trying to state it as fact, since some of us seem to like the guy. Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine when people state things that way.

That Ultemecia think is pretty freaky, though. O.O

I think a good villain is one you kinda hate to see die, like Sephy. Personally, I didn't miss Kefka that much, though I can tell many here don't feel that way.

YES.

Irritated the crap out of me. That was the most boring, pointless boss fight ever. And uc already mentioned having to sit through possession scenes for ALL the aeons. Honestly, the point of a final boss fight is to be CHALLENGING, not to make it so that it's impossible to lose.

Algus from fft...

YES. I agree completely. That was SO much fun killing that little jerk.

Ok thanks for the major spoiler.

What do you expect? This is a thread about our favorite villains. If you discuss villains, obviously there's going to be some spoilers, especially if you discuss why that villain is your favorite. After all, how can someone discuss how Algus is their favorite villain if they don't say his name?

And it isn't a MAJOR spoiler. A major spoiler would be revealing what happens halfway through Final Fantasy VI. That was a minor spoiler.

I would ask everyone in this thread to take things down a notch. This is a discussion about villains from a series of video games that will be relatively inconsequential given time; there isn't any need to get angry.

Tom Dincht's concern: Regardless of how large the spoiler is, it is indeed best to use spoiler brackets to hide information a person unfamiliar with the game wouldn't want to know. I have put spoiler tags in all relevant posts. On this subject, please don't condemn spoilers and then repeat them without spoiler tags.

Imagine a greyish ball with a front that looks like this:
http://forums.ffonline.com/images/avatars/ff10/Black%20Magic%20Symbol.jpg

You're unlikely to find an image better than that. He was never featured in a cutscene, and in battle he was rather small (and pretty much just round). In all honesty, the background was more exciting than he was.

Master Dias wrote:Don't you have automatic Auto-Life on all characters so that you can't actually lose that battle?

That lasts through Yu Yevon? I didn't notice, because my battle consisted solely of Auron's Tornado (had to make the ending flashy). Yes, I think the game would have been much better off with the battle ending prior to the entire giant sword bit. I also felt the music was better in that part.

Myoti wrote:Could you restate assomething like "I think he's the lamest villain..." instead of trying to state it as fact, since some of us seem to like the guy. Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine when people state things that way.

I don't mean to enter this thread and wantonly condemn, but I believe you see the irony. People tend to state their opinions as facts. While it is fine for you to have that pet peeve, keep in mind that most people mean nothing by it.

You didn't have to read that much into it sit back man.

Anyway I said he was lame because like every other person here said you couldn't lose the fight, he was a disembodied flying jellyfish, and he had no mind of his own only following an endless cycle.

O.O

*rereads*

Oh, wow. Heh. I didn't feel that way at all. ^^;;

I was actually cheering Cloud on as he unleashed that final Omnislash at Sephy. "YEAH! Stomp his sorry black-caped butt!" Okay, maybe in stronger words than that, but you get the idea. XD

Now Kefka...I must say, I rather agreed with his philosophy, honestly...if you remember the quote from the final battle:

"Why do you build, knowing destruction is inevitable? Why do you yearn life,
knowing all things must die?"

Kefka seemed to want to merely speed things to their inevitable conclusion, the end of all. He DID want godlike powers, I don't deny that, but ultimately he wished for a larger goal than his own ascendancy. Sephiroth did not. All he wanted was power.

So for me, it was kind of hard to kill Kefka, because you knew he was right. You knew that what he said was true, but you still struggled because even though that was the inevitable end of things, we must do our best to not give up hope.

Sephy was just a power-crazed maniac who wanted to rule everything with an iron fist. I felt no sympathy for him whatsoever.

I think the way Sephiroth`s character and attitude was cool as well as his appearence. One thing I didn`t like was how the "One-winged Angel" scenario wasn`t explained.
Kefka was am uch more evil villian. While he didn`t look cool, and he acted weird he was a much more evil villian.

Though kefka was more evil Sephiroth was a much cooler villian though cooler isn`t always better. Basically, the most popular villian is Seph, hands down.

I don`t have a 100% true opinion on Kefka because I`m only 50-60% completed with FF6, but i do know he
becomes a god. And is INSANE.
I think the thing about Sephy is that he believed he was destined to 'rule the world'. Honestly, it all seems to be thanks to Jenova for all the crap that goes on in that game, though us Sephy fans don't like admitting it. We like to think he became a power-hungry psychopath of his own acchord.

So tell me, is Yu Yevon the only final battle, or do you fihgt someone right before him? I haven't played to that part, so I just wanted to know if it's, like, you fight Braska's Final Aeon (I know who he is) then immediately battle Yu Yevon, or is it just Yu Yevon for the grand finale?
That is kinda sad, though. I had thought he was all cool looking and stuff just to find out he's really wimpy...
I mean, when I was at my friends house I opened one of his save spots and fought Sin... and I was pretty disappointed. I used Anima to kill most of his parts in one hit, then used Bahamut after Anima died. I mean, come on, I killed the guy before he went into Overdrive! (though I probably wouldn't want that happen, anyways...)

True, yes, but pointless. My thought when he was talking before the battle was primarily, "Why are you bothering to tell me this? What's your point?" So I don't share your experience.

Myoti wrote:So tell me, is Yu Yevon the only final battle, or do you fihgt someone right before him? The order is such (full spoilers, here):
Braska's Final Aeon (Part I)
Braska's Final Aeon (Part II) [More HP, I presume a higher attack.]
Aeons* (in any order]

Myoti wrote:I mean, come on, I killed the guy before he went into Overdrive! (though I probably wouldn't want that happen, anyways...)

Yes, you wouldn't. If Sin reaches Overdrive, you receive a Game Over, no matter what your current condition is. Or at least I'm told; I would have had to wait some 200 turns for that to actually happen.
 If my post is going to be spoilerized, at least spoilerize the spoiler please.
The only spoiler that I'm aware of saying, was *gasp*... that Algus was a villain. Calling him a traitor and a wretch, is merely underlining my dislike for the black hearted so and so. (Oh look, I did it again. Does that count as a spoiler as well?)
Also, it really shouldn't have been a big surprise to learn that he died, if you already knew that he was a villain. MOST VILLAIN'S IN RPG'S DIE! It really shouldn't have been that big of a surprise...
The reason why I didn't spoilerize my post, was because (to me) it seemed a little absurd to spoilerize the name of the villain you're talking about, in a thread talking about villain's.
What (imo) would have been a justifiable cause to spoilerize my post, would be if I went into the exact extent of algus's treachery. (Which I did not.)

I have no problem with UC editing my post. I'm merely displaying my confusion as to why the less significant part was spoilerized, while the more significant (but still incredibly minor) part was left untouched.

Anyone who has played fft will know, that The event that I referred to was only a minor event in the tale. It happened only 1/4'th of the way through the story, you only knew algus for roughly 1/8'th of the story, and algus was an npc. Npc's haven't been known for their loyalty anyway... What made algus a 'true' villain, was because of the extent of his treachery. Which I didn't point out anyway for fear of spoilers, even though my effort was apparently in vain :eyeroll:

For the record, I'm not in the least bit angry with anyone here, I'm simply in slight disagreement over what constitutes a 'major spoiler', and felt the need to express my opinion.
If UC, or another Mod thinks that I'm out of line, they can delete this if they like.

The reason is primarily the fact that I am not at all familiar with the game in question.
I presumed that the spoiler was that he was a traitor, not that he was a villain, though the two are related. Having no more experience with Tactics than seeing a handful of screenshots, I have no way of knowing what is or is not important.
So I suppose that an apology is in order; consider it given.

Thanks UC. I did think it was kinda mean to have to fight through every Aeon, but then you have Auto-Life. But then that does kinds suck on the final boss... or something...
Oh, well. I haven't had a really hard final boss battle on FF anyways. I beat FF7 and FF8 final bosses on the first try, but got really messed up on FF9 thanks to Necron's Grand Cross Attack (grumble...).

You didn't need to apologize UC.
Being new and all, I just thought that I should explain some of what I was thinking about when I made my post...
It's no big deal. :thumb:

Backtracking a little... Are you guys certain that what you said about Vincent & Lucretia was accurate?
I had always gotten the impression that Vincent loved Lucretia silently. And that Vincent was either just a good friend of Lucretia's, or was a co-worker of hers, who had a deep respect for her.
What I read into the whole thing, was that Vincent hated himself for not killing hojo, before hojo used Lucretia for his own ambitions. Therefore, he sealed himself away after the 'experiment' as part of his self-induced punishment. Seeing a chance to set right the wrong which he failed to prevent, he agrees to go questing to kill hojo and save the planet. Having some final doubts about killing the beloved son of Lucretia, he wonders if it would be committing another 'sin' to kill the only son of the woman that he loved.

Well that was my take on it anyway... So what I'm wondering is, do you guys have any proof, or are we all just speculating on what might have happened?

Yeah, I beat him, but it took me two tries. For me, that's kinda bad, especially for the way I had been doing before on games. I beat the final bosses of FFVII, FFVIII, Tales of Symphonia, Castlevania:AoS, KH:CoM, and several other games on my first try, then to be not just beaten, but mutilated by Necron knocked me down a couple of pegs. Not trying to sound conceded or anything...
I don't know if I ever even fought a Grand Dragon. I just kept killing all the monsters in Memoria till I was strong enough to beat him.

(Oh, I played FFIX after all those games because I was borrowing it from a friend, just in case you were wondering.)

Most people seem to consider Necron easy. But I personally had an easier time with Sephiroth and Ultimecia.

Necron's blasted status effects kept messing up my party.
