O my gosh! No threads on Star Wars 3 yet!?

TV, Movies, Sports...you can find it all in here.

...catching up on posts...

about Star Wars the musical,
Its hilarious to listen to, but the video drags it down. The editing blows. No,they didn't go frame by frame. On the wide shots, the lips "look" in sync, but look closer; they're not. It actually looks decent when in full speed, but when slowed down, it gets nasty. The slow motion, and freeze frames shouldn't have been used. I'd rather see it in full speed with worse sync than see a film sped up, slowed down, sped up, slowed down. The video works better when you don't see the faces of who's speaking. But it was badly edited.

Mastersquirrel,
of course books usually are better than their movie versions. Why? because you do all of the acting and "musical scores" in your head. Your brain creates the perfect effects and whatnot. What you read in text does not always sound good when spoken. That's why the lines were bad in ep 1 &2. (the only hope I have for ep3 is that Lucas fired the existing writer and got a new guy to write lines) You create a sweet sounding speech on paper, but when you say it, it doesn't sound as good. Some phrases don't belong on film.

Pent,
I'm glad someone else recognizes that ep1&2 were aimed at 10 yr olds. And on that note, isn't it a bit early to be saying that you "grew up" with these movies? Ep1 only came out 6 years ago, and you're only 14.

Yes, and the Ewoks of Ep-6 were very adult oriented. Man I get tired of whiny elitist fans. My word people. Most the crap you pull out of your butts for reasons to bash the new movies is the same stuff that was in the old ones. Your all so blind with nostelgia its freaken sad.

Then he has to fire himself! That could be interesting for the future of Star Wars related stuff! (I'm not all that sure the George Lucas has all that much to do with Star Wars as he is credited for. He didn't even write Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, he did write the original movie though).

Well I grew up with the movies in the sense that each one came out targeted more at my age group. (3 we obviously don't know yet, but pg-13 movies where the sith kill a whole bunch of Jedi and stuff arn't targeted at lower age people for all I know.) So I'm saying each movie of this new trilogy kind of grew up with me.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough.
The DIALOGUE writer was fired. Playwright Tom Stoppard wrote the dialogue for Ep 3.
Lucas wrote and created the plot, but doesn't usually write every single line in the script. He's far to busy for that, so he hires writers to help him out. That's done every day in hollywood. Even sitcoms have multiple screenwriters.

In an interview with Hayden Christensen (about ep3), he said, "I actually get to have human dialogue in this, which is nice."

So even he recogized the bad lines in the first 2.

Do you see me comparing the new ones to the old ones in every sentence I say?

"Bad Movie" does not mean "Bad movie because it didn't do better than the first"

You need to calm down a bit, my friend.

The ewoks in ep6 were, indeed, an attempt to aim at a younger audience. They were cute and adorable. However, they are in NO WAY compared to the ever annoying, cursed, Jar Jar binks character. There is no comparison.

Ep. 4 & 5 were aimed at young adults. Ep 6 attempted to strike at more younger people with the ewoks. Ep 1 & 2 went even further down the age bracket with Jar Jar. Thats the difference.

so Lucas ISN'T entirely responsible for the screenplays then? eh...I guess it doesn't really matter, because either way, the dialogue was inferior to the original, in my opinion.

Most people (incl me) that I know would call Empire the best, and Jedi the worst of the original trilogy.

but maybe we're just strange?

The ewoks destroying hi tech equipment with a bunch of logs ruined it for me. Cut that out and it was good

For me empire worked because it had the characters seem most human

Exactly. :thumb: Ewoks not so bad in themselves, just the phenomenon of villain incompetence. Villains seemed most competent in Empire, so maybe that's why I liked it best...

Then let me clarify better-- he went frame by frame and got the frames that matched the lip movements he needed, using stills when needed (I've watched it a lot). Given it was an amatuer project, it came out well. Of course you can always get the "Star Park" version if you like, or do a better edit

Some how I have a sneaking suspicion that they come out on top with this one.

Point to ponder
If there are 10,000 jedi and 2 sith, and Anakin is supposed to bring balance to the force, hasn't anyone considered that balance means a whole lot of dead jedis? ;)

That, and the Master Jedi was a muppet.

At any rate...

I agree with AH, for me, Empire was the best, and Jedi was the worst. Evil villains, good character development, and a cliffhanger ending.

Gotta love it. :D

Yoda wasn't a problem. In fact, back in 1980, people thought it was a midget at first because it seemed so real. I guess nowadays it probably seems weak...

Although I do have to admit Empire would have been better without that stupid space worm...

Well, he IS still the director, who has the final say in what goes down.

On topic of what of the originals were the best, Empire was my fav, Jedi was my least fav. I didn't mind the space worm. It showed some of the dangers of space that weren't touched in the other two (besides being shot down by the empire lol).

Yoda being a muppet,
I miss muppets and think that movies should ditch some of the overused CG and get back to the puppetears. Puppets, even though having limitations in movement, do add a sense of realism that many CG characters lack.

and hey, who else agrees that the Empire is symbolic of Nazis? Uniform design, the names?

Symbolic? I thought he just lifted them directly as a wway of saying "These guys are evil!" ;) Yeah, it was pretty obvious, kind of like the original star trek klingons seemed modeled after the Russkies during the cold war. Lucas did some cool symbolism in the original, like when Leia was about to be tortured by the droid, and then the door closed and we saw the booted feet marching across the floor with the helmets looking like futurized Nazi helmets.

Unfortunately, I've seen so many parodies my mind is warped. When I see the scene where Luke finds his aunt and uncle dead, I automatically think of the "domestic abuse" call in Troops

Wow, only 5 days left. I can't wait to see Darth Vader. He's my favorite all time fictional villain. I just hope he gets enough screen time.

Sorta like my friend complaining about the "hot costume" Natalie Portman wore (with the ripped stomach portion) in Attack of the clones... I mean, come on... Return of the Jedi! Leia, for goodness sakes...The somewhat skintight but not really suit Padmé wears is absolutely victorian compared to the Leia the slave girl outfit...

Since you brought up the ewoks, though, another friend doesn't like any of the cutesy stuff except R2-D2... She can't stand the Ewoks, and thinks "Jedi" was the worst of the original trilogy...

Darth Vadar wont actaully get that much screen time in his darth vadar costume. (From what I have gathered). But Anikan goes by Darth Vadar for a while before he gets into the big black suit. I couldn't wait so I got a couple spoilers. Not to much just basic storyline and stuff. I'm pretty sure this one wont be ripped on as much as the other 2 because it sound like a really really good movie. Plus it cover up a whole bunch of plot holes. Even the ones that most people didn't notice from 1 and 2.

I was afraid of that (that the actual Darth won't get much screen time). Well, I'll savor what he gets, and I'm sure the movie itself will be excellent. I'm guessing under the originals, but above the last two prequels. Oh yeah. *beats George Lucas with a door for not having the original versions of Episodes 4-6 released on DVD*

That I will agree with. I remember watching "The Making Of..." specials back in the day, and it was really interesting how they made all the puppets and special effects and stuff. There was substance to it.

Now you see a "Making Of..." special and it's just, "Oh. We used computers."

For the record, I have nothing against Yoda, I thought he was amusing and I really liked him. But still, a muppet for a Jedi Master?

I will always prefer the muppet Yoda over the CGI one. Granted, the hilarious yet awesome battle scene in Episode II never could've happened without a CGI Yoda, but the muppet we know and love from the previous films will never be replaced.
