Tried going there, but couldn't send a message. Then somehow I had firefox block it out alltogether and can't get it back.

Not that I knew what I was doing anyway...

While it was loading, it was kind enough to inform me that "Nick is already in use". I was like, "...O.o;; Who's using him? Someone I should know about?" XDD
Think happy thoughts.

Hmm. That's weird. There's definately a bug in the new java engine for firefox. I *could* just re-write the whole blamed thing, but I *hate* doing that...

OK, never mind OldPhil... It turned out I didn't know you were supposed to type in the bar at the bottom of the screen. It works fine with Firefox then...

Yeah, as far as feature creep goes, let's make a deal. I'll let you all (not, y'all - that would be scary) keep using this chat area as long as you all don't start requesting features.

Hmm. You aren't the only one. That is the one major downside with Java. M$ poluted the pool when they "added vital features" to the standard java implementation. After all the lawsuits, etc, M$ has succeeded in rendering java "funtionally borken."

(For those of you who don't know, java would have let any company sell software off the internet on a per-use basis, regardless of OS. That would put a bit of a crimp in M$'s checkbook).

Anyway, somewhere around here is a link that will let people download the latest java. Someone else wanna find it?

In the mean time, what Opperating System do you have?

Right now, I am using the chat on the MEPIS Linux distribution (kernel 2.6.10, I think) with Firefox with some extensions (AdBlock, Flashblock, TabBrowser Prefs, and Download Manager Tweak). While it is minimally functional under this OS configuration (I can send and receive chat messages), I cannot select any of the Options menu items. When I click my mouse on the Options button, the menu items show, but when I try to click on one of the items, it does not actually turn on/off that item. So, right now, I cannot test the "bip" option and its sound.

My hunch is that this is the fault of the JVM on this particular distribution, but I thought I should let you know.

Update: While I am still the latest post, I am might as well add some more problems.

Now that I am running the chat under Windows XP with the same Firefox configuration, I noticed that I can select the menu items correctly now, but the "bip" does not always emit its sound correctly or consistently.

Furthermore, under both Linux and under Windows XP, sometimes I have to re-login into CAA (despite of having checked the "Remember Me?" box previously), either going to the Chat window or going to somewhere else on the web forums in another window.

Where is it that we select for it to auto scroll. I can't keep up with scrolling and typing. . .
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I have had problems with the auto-scrolling as well. It seems to work when the cursor is placed in the actual chat window, but it fails to auto-scroll when the cursor is placed in the bottom box to type in a chat message.

Please tell me this program doesn't use any of those stupid function calls. I'm gonna be livid if the result of the anti-trust legislation against M$ resultes in this thing not working. >.< Anyone else using the latest version of XP and IE?

You know guys, the whole reason Mith opened up this thread was so he could work out the bugs as best he can. So for your part, try to be cooperative in answering what he asks. Keep in mind too that 1, none of the staffers get paid for ANYTHING we do, and 2, Mith has spent lots of time and effort to get this to work. Just please remember to be courteous about things, ok?

Was referring to the scrolling problem someone said earlier. Thought that it might be related and thought I'd mention it. With Firefox, when typing, you can't scroll, but it's not a problem with ie.

Ashley,
_____To whom are you adressing your post?

Mithrandir,
_____I'm not even sure how to check on my java anymore. Microsoft has passed out so many dang patches, and bull crud that it's hard to desifer anything anymore. I checked to see if Java was alowed and it is enabled. I even did a bit of searching over the net for the problem, because I'm having this problem with another Java chat.
