Ah, old cartoons. Good stuff.

What thread about old cartoons on an anime site would be complete without references to two of the greatest 80s cartoons ever, Robotech and Voltron? It wouldn't be, which is why I have remedied it. :D

For the record, I speak of Lion Voltron, not Vehicle Voltron.

As far as American cartoons, I was a fan of GI Joe and Transformers as well, and I liked Darkwing Duck. Thundercats was okay at times, but Snarf was irritating.

For video game cartoons, I watched the Super Mario Bros. Super Show (which showed Zelda on Fridays).

*starts singing* DO THE MARIO!

Super Mario Bros. 3 was decent, but not quite as good. Super Mario World fell flat, because the music was bad, there was too much of an attempt to make it like Flintstones, and they never DID say what happened to Toad.

I'm sure there's many, many more, that I have somehow forgotten, and am ashamed of that. So I shall depart now.

Inspector Gadget was an awesome show along with James Bond Jr., Exo Squad, X-Men and the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoons.

I also seemed to enjoy the old comedy cartoons like the Steven Spielberg Toons (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs), Bobby's World, and even Ren and Stimpy. A lot of these that I love I wished kept running on air.

Animaniacs- the awesomeness never stops. I know a girl who can sing the entire "countries of the world" song by heart- that's like over 250 countries! A few of my favorite episodes were the ones with Pip- the excrutiatingly boring person, and the one with Wakko driving by in a golf cart singing "This is the beginning, the beginning of our story." Hee Hee

Dang...I want the lyrics to that song. That was hilarious. Their writers were awesome, I have to say...especially where song writing was concerned. In the same vein, I liked Pinky and the Brain. Narf! Memorizing stuff through song is so darn effective. I need to do that more (tangent)...

Gotta love the Nicktoons though. I'm a sucker for the weirdness of Ren and Stimpy and Rocko.

X-men cartoons weren't bad, but I have to say I liked the 90's Spider-man cartoons the best (hey...without them, there may never have been a successful Spider-man movie, with all of the other Marvel character movies as well).

I'm working on a proposed Gundam Seed website(so far it's all just on
paper)and discovered an interesting fact:Teela from the most recent
version of He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe was voiced by
Lisa Ann Beley who also did Captain Ramius in the GS dub and Kiddy
in the Silent Mobius dub. :thumb:
btw and off topic:the younger version of Mulder's sister Samantha on
The X-Files was played by Vanessa Morely who did Cagali in the GS dub.

For anime, it's an endless list that would take two long to list.
For non-anime, most or all of the super hero TAS (The Animated Series) shows, primarily Batman and Spider-Man. Those are still the gems of American animated tv shows IMO. Most of the rest is junk or near it IMO. About the only American cartoons I consider worth watching are super hero-related, and even that has some bad eggs here and there.

Oh my gosh, I had completely forgotten about Grimm's Fairy Tales! I had all these different images from the show that I could still remember, but I always just thought that they must have been from a movie or something I saw as a little kid, and I couldn't put my finger on what it was. Then when I read "Grimm's Fairy Tales," it triggered something in the back of my mind, so I listened to the theme song, and all those images came crashing back, so I finally know what it's from! As I was listening to the song, I was like, "Hey! Osaka! Remember this?" And I told her that I thought we used to watch it, and she was like, "No. . . Wait, YEAH!" Ha ha, I wish they still showed this kind of stuff. I'd still watch it.

I didn't have cable when I was little. On saturdays I watched whatever was on ABC.
We had three channels, and ABC was the only one that ever had cartoons.

Other than that I watched Superbook, and "The Ten Commandments" video. I also liked to watch "The Magic School Bus". Most of my time, though, was spent out in the back yard (when I was allowed) and in the spare room, playing guitar and singing for my stuffed animals. I had a great time.

Even though I had never seen it, I also really liked Sailor Moon. My friends would tell me about it and show me pictures, they always kept me filled in on what was happening ^_^ One year I tried to be Usagi for Halloween, but we couldn't find red material for the skirt. *sigh* I had to be a "rainbow/sparkly superhero". It was humiliating...ah, childhood memories.

What I do remember, though, is Animaniacs as well as Pinky and the Brain. Those were awesome cartoons. They live on in my mind.

I don't think I saw those until I was eight though, when we moved to San Diego...then I became cartoon-obsessed. :)

Edit: Alvin and the Chipmunks! *huggles* How could I forget them?!
